Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

Woohoo!!! Will be buying an Xbox One sooner rather than later. Was going to wait until a year or so from now but I work at Kohl's and they sell Xbox One consoles. All I have to do is wait for the employee discount to go from 15% to 30% and I'll be able to purchase an Xbox One for $280 plus tax which is too good to pass up. Once this happens, all I have to do is wait for Wii U to drop to $200 and I'll have all three consoles. Yay me!!!

Definitely agree in regards to Sony being over confident and not being aggressive at all. Microsoft has done an excellent job with their monthly updates and yeah, it's not even close. Microsoft has the edge this holiday season with Sunset Overdrive and Halo: MCC but I am puzzled as to why Microsoft isn't releasing a Halo: MCC bundle. If it was up to me, I would do that for $400 and the game is the actual physical game as opposed to some downloadable card.

Microsoft should win November and December but whatever momentum they gain and gap they close will be more or less put back to what it was come February when Sony releases Bloodborne and The Order: 1886.

Exclusives wise, up until February 2015, I would have only played one PS4 exclusive (Knack) and one PS4 console exclusive (Mercenary Kings). By then, im hoping to have already played and finished Ryse: Son of Rome for Xbox One. Other than Ryse though, there's no exclusives that I want until Ori, Quantum Break and Rise of the Tomb Raider with the last two being released in the last quarter of 2015.

In the end, like I have said, it's all about personal preference. My personal preference is PS4 but at the same time, I want to own and have all three consoles with Wii U being the third.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I own both and by now it's become the norm that I use the PS4 for practically all of gaming, except for racing, which the X11 has The Forza series. The Ps4 is simply better when it comes to graphics and fluidity of graphics (FPS). I see no reason, since I own both, to compromise in those areas so why would I buy a multi-platform game on the X1?

I still love the X1 for multimedia, voice controls and TV functions but rarely use it to game.

Unfortunately, I only have spare time for one gaming console (well, actually not even enough time for one.) I love baseball. Decision easy (for me).

Really can't knock anyone for going either way, both ways or even all three ways.

I'd agree with you a couple of months ago, but after trying out almost all new sports games so far I disagree. At this point They look almost identical so that's no longer a valid argument. Also the difference is very minimal when there is a difference. The ps4 is stronger but way too basic IMO. I love mlb the show so I mainly use my ps4 for that game, but I buy all my multiplatform games on the Xbox because Xbox live is better than psn and I mainly play multiplayer. Plus I enjoy the Xbox controller more. Thats besides all the other things like plex to watch movies and all the updates MS keeps adding each month and all the features it offers. 3 of my closes buddies sold their ps4s to buy an Xbox and I say this because this wasn't the case a couple of months ago. It also shows Xbox is doing something right as oppose to last year at E3. I personally wouldn't sell mine because I enjoy some games on the ps4 and I always bought both consoles to enjoy all the exclusives.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I own both and I prefer the Xbox One by a vast amount. The only reason i'm keeping my PS4 is for Persona 5, the Show, and the other niche Japanese games that I know will eventually start coming for the system. The advantage the PS4 has in graphics is minimal at best. Right now the games to play are on the Xbox One.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

The reason most games look almost identical is because developers try to keep them identical. For example, they downgrade the PS4 versions of games (some) so that XBOne and PS4 will be equal. This has been admitted by several companies, it has also gotten to where companies like Ubisoft complain about the XBOne's lack of power in comparison to the PS4.

Which several companies? I've seen Ubi and another I think but otherwise think you're overselling this a bit.

I agree. While I always tell people that PS4 is more powerful, I feel the difference isn't something most will notice (unless you play both side by side).

Just my opinion...I know that with how I sit, away from my tvs, I won't notice the minor differences.

If you want a pure gaming machine though, my answer is always PS4. Just don't overlook the other benefits that the One offers (TV, constant dash updates, Kinect, etc).

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

The PS4 GPU has 32 raster operation processors (ROP's). The XBOne has only 16 ROP's.
Because of that, the PS4 GPU puts out twice as many pixels per GPU clock compared to the XBOne.

PS4 GPU runs at 800MHz, the XBOne runs at 853MHz.
                          Pixel fill rates:
                          PS4 GPU - 800MHz x 32 ROP's is 25,6 billion pixels/sec
                          XBOne GPU - 853MHz x 16 ROP's is 13.6 billion pixels/sec

This is the reason why the vast majority of PS4 games can run at native 1080p and XBOne games are usually 900p or sometimes even less. Sometimes 1080p, but the game will suffer in other areas then.

Remember, the amount of pixel fill rate developers have to work with not only affects the native resolution, but framerate as well.
So with any game, if the XBOne version runs at the resolution as the PS4(1080p), then sacrifices have to be made in other areas on the XBOne version, such as framerate and/or graphic effects.

So this means, if the XBOne version of a game has the exact same graphics as the PS4 version, then the resolution will almost certainly be lower on the XBOne.

This is why a lot of developers have to "dumb down" the PS4 versions, so that they don't outshine the XBOne by too big of a margin. Because the XBOne can't run a game at 1080p with the same graphics as the PS4, if the PS4 version is "maxed" out.

I agree. There is barely a difference between the two gameplay wise. The only people that notice it are the people who really want to.

Nobody disputed any of this. Again, which developers have said what you stated in your previous post, or care to walk that back?

Yeah can we really stop throwing around the term "dumbed down" we are talking about 900 vs 1080 here. The pixel thing is so dumb to begin with anyways.
