I really hope this generation is about more than pixels.

    I hope it's about, I don't know, maybe games.

Yeah...I get that it is (and should be) some concern to people, but IMO it's not as big a deal as people are making it out to be.

IMO if you're that concerned just build a PC gaming rig that can run everything on Ultra or something.

Anyone who knows anything about pixels/resolution or game development in general, knows that higher resolution equals better image quality. Also, higher framerate equals smoother gameplay. Therefore, if devs take advantage of the PS4's full power, the PS4 versions of games will always play better. But instead they dumb down the PS4 versions, so that its level with the XBOne.

As for who complained about the XBOne's lack of power. Ubisoft and at least 2 more. So saying "several" in that regard was maybe overstating the fact.
However, more dev companies have complained about the XBOne's inferior RAM, making it more complex to program for. Ubisoft, Rockstar and a few others.

Again, I own both and like both. But the PS4 gets more play. I only use the XBOne for the exclusives on that console. Multiplats always gets played on PS4. There is a noticeable difference between the two on many multiplat titles. One that comes to mind right now is WatchDogs. I played it on both consoles and it looks significantly better on the PS4. Much crisper

Its kind of vexxing as a PS4 owner for a developer to come out and say that they're scaling back on one side to create parity.

But hasn't that how it's been for every generation? They target one of the two consoles as the "main console"?...it's never been equal and the only games that get fully optimized are console exclusives...

I get why it's vexxing, and agree with you to some extent...just also feel it's blown out of proportion when most games have had different specs per system, so you know they're obviously NOT holding PS4 back...And for Unity it's more of a AI issue also, but we don't have to get into that because people just say that doesn't matter to dismiss it.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

As long as X1 can manage 900p\60fps it will be okay. The problem isn't so much about 900p vs 1080p but 30fps vs 60fps.

However, the BIGGER problem that this is setting an idea in developers' minds that they are focusing on the wrong things. Not on AI, not on gameplay, not on story, not on making a fun game but on 1080p. Headlines these days aren't that game X has this and that feature but is x resolution and x fps. Developers come out with all this info on a game but in the end it always goes back to one question, what's the resolution and fps.

I remember how bad Termination Salvation was on the 360. If that game was 1080p, 60fps with high textures would that change how ****ty that game was? No.

I hope this resolution\fps dies fast but somehow I think this will be the question of this generation.

This times 1000000! I agree that it's a concern, but I trust that the quality devs put out a good looking game...Next Gen type stuff will be in AI and all the other things you mentioned, not graphics as much (IMO)...

Ubisoft is the only one that did it and have gotten a lot of backlash for it so I'm sure no other developer will come out and say it.

If you're PS4 only, I wouldn't worry about it. The norm is 900p vs 1080p and that will probably stay that way.

Exactly. Most have been 900p vs 1080p and I can deal with that...I think devs are learning to shut up now lol

Watchdogs is an awful example. The devs couldn't even get that game optimized on the ps4.

I think a lot of people felt burned by Ubisoft (and to me this is more of a Ubisoft problem than a "resolution" discrepancy) after Watch Dogs so there's going to be extra scrutiny.

I say vexxing, but I don't really think about it past being annoyed by the news. I doubt we'll see a "next gen" leap in gameplay areas so for now the graphics are going to be the biggest indicator of "next gen" to some gamers.

Sunset overdrive feels like a next gen leap gameplay wise. I don't think I have ever played a game that controls that well. I'm hoping gta controls just as good.

I guess the problem that some people are having is that 1080p/60fps was supposed to be the "standard" for next gen.

Very few, if any, is meeting that standard at the moment. Has nothing to do with "dumbing down" the PS4 versions to match the Xbox One versions. Sony's exclusives are not even 1080/60.

1080p/60fps is so absurdly arbitrary and has little to do with quality of the game.

Just serves as a rock solid foundation for agenda posting rather than actual conversation more often than not.

Ubisoft has larger issues, the 'we wanted to avoid parity debates' statement is a ridiculous PR blunder and the game itself looks to be a fairly big technical mess if the PC requirements are to be believed. You'd think it was a Crysis game or something.

Totally agree. For some reason this has been lost on people this generation.
