It is nice that SmartGlass and all of its functions are contained within the app itself, rather than with the PlayStation App which requires you to open your browser to view their store. Once SmartGlass is initially open, two taps and a swipe gets me to the free Games with Gold and Deals with Gold all on the same screen and one additional swipe gets me to the New Releases. I like that SmartGlass also displays when I made the purchase...not a huge deal, but I like additional info front and center like that.

Searching for games/apps with both apps is super easy and there really isn't a huge difference, with the exception of having to filter results with the PlayStation app if I want to only search for PS4 or Vita games/apps. Start typing and a number of choices pop up to predict your search...both apps handle this quite well and relatively quick, too. Checking out is easy on the SmartGlass...it requires fewer clicks (no carts) and it automatically downloads to my X1 (PlayStation app requires an additional click to initiate the download).

Both apps are very useful and rather easy to use, but I think SmartGlass is more user-friendly than the PlayStation app because of a few minor differences (fewer clicks/swipes to do similar features, aesthetics, etc). However, I don't see how anyone could really say either one is difficult to use.
I love Smartglass. It's the best app I've used so far in terms of an extension to your console. If Microsoft does anything right, it's the software side of things. They've always been way ahead of Sony IMO.

I'd love them to add a feature to enter an XBL Party from your app and chat with your friends who are gaming.

For those with both systems, which controller do you prefer to use for games like NBA 2K and Madden?

No preference, doesn't influence my buying decision. I just get whichever one I'm playing w/ friends on.

I tend to give the DS4 the edge over the Xbox One controller generally though. Neither are as comfortable and sturdy as my 360 controller though IMO.

Yeah that 360 controller is perfect for the games I mentioned above. I play offline, so I don't have a preference one way or another to either console.

I've been contemplating getting the Xbox One AC bundle next week, as the wife has stated that she wants to buy me a PS4 for either my birthday or our anniversary next year. But, I don't know if it's worth it own both (limited sports games options and aside from The Show, the games are available for both consoles), so may just spend the extra $70 now and do all my gaming on the PS4.

As someone who currently only owns a PlayStation 4 but will be buying an Xbox One before the $50 off deal expires, I have a stupid question -

What the hell is SmartGlass and what does it do? What's it for?

It's an app for your iPad or phone, basically a second screen for your Xbox One in some games and allows you to type in most cases where you enter text.

So, it's basically the Xbox One version of PS4 and Vita's remote play?

I was accused of being a kid defending a console of my choice (360) last ten despite owning both systems and I've been accused of being a kid defending their console of choice (PS4) this generation, again despite owning both systems.

In other words, it's not always about defending or attacking a console...it's often times about people comparing and discussing which is superior for the sake of spending their money in the best way possible on a specific game..

Same old argument. You do know that COD, assassins creed unity, GTA 5 and Dragon age all have better framerate on the one right? One thing about these next gen consoles for me is the complete overall experience is what's most important not just slightly better graphics that are barely noticeable on some games.

I like both, but prefer the Xbox controller better because of the analog stick placement and feel.

NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

But the the Xbox One version of GTA has less foliage.

That's cool. My main point was that most of these games look very similar and the most important thing is the overall experience not slight graphical differences.

Exactly, so that's why I never understood why people have to defend a console to the death over such minor things.

What exactly are you doing? Quoting me to say the ps4 has better foliage. What was the point of your post? I actually own both consoles and responded to the same argument we've heard for months. Out of curiosity do you own an Xbox one?

I was agreeing with you. Obviously the sarcasm of my foliage post went over your head. Relax man it's not that serious.
