Yeah I wish they would target 60 Fps and just pick the resolution that works but everyone is so nuts about pixels for some reason.

I agree, FPS makes for a better gaming experience than resolution.

It's all about smoothness and no hitches to me. If I have a game that maybe has more AA or resolution but hitches and stutters then thanks but no thanks. Give me a game that does drop in FPS.

I agree, but the gaming public kills you if you drop below 1080p....Don't agree with that, but that's how it is...

I agree...gets annoying when it causes devs to change their decisions to be that instead of best for the gamer

Some of these games would probably look and perform better if they lowered the resolution a little lower than 1080p. Both companies should've made these consoles where they could perfectly handle 1080 60 with no problems..

That's like saying all cars should be able to go 0-60 in 4 seconds though. Who cares if it's a dump truck, it has 4 wheels, 4 seconds! Who cares if a game has a lot of graphical and AI overhead, 1080p/60fps!

There will always be limitations on resources. You can't make a console or even a PC for that matter to compensate for the scope of all games and their development.

...and really, they are built for that. Developers want to do more though, and that's one of many points of compromise at their disposal.

I hear you both, but many believed the specs were a little outdated from the start. That's why some believe this cycle won't be as long as the previous gen cycle.

So 8 cores and 8 gb ram is outdated? Most people who say that are comparing to PC's. 8 cores is far from outdated. No games need 8gb ram either.
Most people who call the hardware outdated are people who don't know the intricate details about hardware.
Also, PC'S have more overhead to deal with, so naturally a PC needs a bit more power.
Consoles don't have as much overhead and games are programmed differently for consoles.

The hardware is far from outdated.

Exactly, you can't compare to a PC...with a console that has static hardware programmers can get so much more out of it than on the PC where they have to program for all sorts of configurations.

Keep telling yourselves that, consoles define the lowest common denominator for the better part of a decade per cycle with very few exceptions.

Just because you can't make an apples to apples comparison doesn't mean a comparison can't be made.

PCs do have superior hardware no doubt but the consoles greater accessibility makes for better games. So do you want better hardware or software? Mill go with the latter myself. And yes, I do have a gaming PC a that's pretty capable btw, it just doesn't get used much for gaming since the new consoles came out..
