Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I own both a PS4 and an Xbox and I'll be honest I love my Xbox One and I've always loved Microsoft more than Sony.

Seriously considering selling my PS4 and just rolling with Xbox because I don't have time or the energy for 2 systems...also Achievements are 100000000 times better than Trophies IMO haha.

At E3 2013, Microsoft basically screwed over all of their loyal fans by originally implementing all the above stuff that I listed and then quickly reversed it soon thereafter. This is why I take it serious. If any of the big three (Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo) ends up killing console gaming for me, I would be shocked and surprised if it's not Microsoft that does it.

On a related side note - the above is the MAIN REASON why PS4 has outsold Xbox One 2-1. Microsoft simply pissed off all of their loyal fans and they went to Sony, plain and simple.
Says the guy who at one point owned an Xbox One.

MS was simply a gen or two early. We have nearly de facto online-only consoles anyways, as demonstrated by the people posting in the PS4 thread when PSN is down.

In many ways we'd have been better off if they bit the bullet and went through with it, and showed us the reality wasn't what the spasming internet was imagining. We'd have digital sharing (instead we got EA Access I think in part from this tech), trade-ins (Azure POS licensing management at participating retailers like Best Buy and Gamestop), more access to our games (no disc needed once installed) and then also enjoy the pivots to a middle ground to let people keep their precious plastic DRM lifestyles too and a relaxed licensing check-in scheme under the right circumstances.

Instead we'll get it - as an entire industry - within the next gen or two. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of PS4 and Xbox One owners are connected all the time already, something that will continue to be more and more true. Just a matter of designing a better solution for those who are not, or only intermittently - or determining that they are eventually such a small outlier that their segment can be ignored. I'm sure we'll get 2500 words on how that'll be the end of the industry or something, be sure to at least let us know the lotto numbers while you're gazing into the crystal ball too.

I'm a gamer first and foremost. Bought an Xbox One not because im a Microsoft fan but because there's games that I wanted to play on it. In the end, I sold it within a month.

I do believe that would cause the industry to crash for one simple reason - there would be no other alternatives or options to play the games. No competition. Just look at professional wrestling...since WCW and ECW died, WWE has sucked plain and simple. No reason for WWE to try or to care. Would be the same thing in video games. If the games are only available digitally, they would rarely if ever go lower than $60 as there would be no reason for them to do that. You either buy the game at $60 and take your chances or you don't. I believe that when push comes to shove, the majority of gamers won't take that chance.

In a way, it would sort of be like a monopoly but with more than one company doing the same exact thing. Look at sports games. EA has the exclusive NFL license and let's be honest, Madden is nowhere close to what it was over a decade ago. If anything, it's been on a steady decline every year since then in terms of quality, innovation, etc. Only reason it sells is simple - there's no other options and thus, no competition.

Just picture that with EVERY game. Publishers know that to get the next big game or AAA title, you would have no other option or choice. You either buy it or you don't.

For me, a perfect example is Zombie Army Trilogy and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Both were released digitally only at $50 and $20 respectively and have NOT gone on sale since launch week. Thankfully, both come out on July 21st on disc. What happens if when I buy both, I don't like either game? I can sell or trade them in and get back the majority of what I spent so in the end, it's not a total loss. Purchase the game, give the publisher a sale, play it and just don't like it so I move on from it. If this happens digitally, im out $50 or $20 on a game that I'll most likely never ever install on my hard drive let alone play again.

In the end, to each their own but I for one don't want gaming to go all digital. Those who collect games and by that, I mean physical, an actual item, not something that can easily be erased, removed or quite simply voided out if the publisher so chooses to do which they can at any time will hopefully understand. As someone who was a collector, there's nothing better than having an actual physical collection. Same for those who collect comic books, coins or what have you. Only reason I stopped collecting games is because once I hit 30, it's not worth the time and monetary investment and since I would, did and have collected games that are expensive (like SNES Chrono Trigger complete and gem mint condition for example), it simply becomes way too much of a luxury as opposed to a necessity.

Digital games can simply be gone in a flash. Can easily look at games that were "delisted" from PS3/360, etc. or P.T. for example. Different situation and circumstances but same result - game is gone and it isn't coming back. Gaming is my main hobby and form of entertainment and to see it eventually turn into what music is basically nowadays would be a tragedy plain and simple. So yeah, I don't want Microsoft to win in fear that they'll eventually try to do all of that again and succeed. Even worse, if they win and do that, the chances are higher that Sony would follow suit. Can't and won't speak for anyone else but I definitely don't want that to happen.

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I only own a PS4 but I'm 100% digital, haven't purchased a disc since holiday of launch. I prefer the digital future, all my movies are on VUDU, all my music is on Google Play or Spotify, all my games rest on my PS4 HDD and in the cloud.

I'm also 100% digital on my 360 and have been for 3 years now, I can speak from experience that no game I've ever purchased and ended up being delisted has vanished for me. Demos like P.T. and NBA Elite 11, sure, but the games have always been there even after I deleted them, like Outrun or Marvel vs. Capcom.

But seriously, you guys need to chill with the arguments on this. Its not that serious. I go where my friends go, not which console is better as that's more important to me. I was all in for 360 last gen, all in for PS2 the gen prior and all in for PS4 now. I only buy one console a generation and just roll with it. Just remember, Microsoft and Sony both really don't care about you. Yet you guys sit here and argue and argue about which is better. For me, it's all about games. Both consoles have great games, both consoles have exclusives you can't play anywhere else. I'm mostly a 3rd party gamer as I'm not a huge fan of either company's first party stuff. The Show has changed my opinion on that somewhat though LOL.

Just enjoy the games guys. There's no possible way you could own one of these systems and not have fun on it, why waste the time and energy arguing over which one is really better?

How does a game having a save bug at launch affect the way it plays on a console?

If anything, the main problem is the bad to horrible pop-in but I have seen that on every game including exclusives on both consoles so it doesn't really matter since it evens out.

As for not taking resolution and frames per second into consideration, I disagree. That's like buying a 720p HDTV over a 1080p HDTV. If you're looking into buying an HDTV, you're supposed to do some research into all of that stuff. Gamers should definitely take it into consideration. I don't know why any gamer wouldn't. Look at Batman, 1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbox One and numerous bugs, glitches and problems have been reported where as PS4 version runs almost flawlessly. In short, third party games are better on PS4 than Xbox One just like 360 was better than PS3. You can debate this all day but it's actually a fact for one simple reason - PS4 is easier to develop for than Xbox One and just like last gen, that makes the biggest difference.

As for Microsoft having more games than PS4 isn't accurate. Via Wikipedia, PS4 has 337 playable/purchasable games while Xbox One has 192. As for 2015, it's all based on personal preference. I don't give two craps about Halo or Forza so they mean nothing to me. Only Tomb Raider is of any interest and that's timed exclusive. PS4 doesn't really have any more exclusives for 2015 except for Until Dawn which I care more about than I do Halo or Forza. And Sony released The Order: 1886 (yeah yeah, I know, whatever) and Bloodborne this year. What has Microsoft released? That's right - ScreamRide - LMFAO!!! Are you ******* kidding me??? LOL.

As for 2016, I think that you're getting ahead of yourself. The only exclusive on either console that's been confirmed to release in 2016 is Uncharted 4. Other than that, every game is a wait and see. Of course, it doesn't matter anyway as Microsoft always releases their franchises early on in the life cycle and then, it dies out by the end where as Sony still releases exclusives.

You may be the owner of both consoles but you easily favor and kiss Microsoft's *** as much as I do Sony's. As for more value, I had an Xbox One for just under a month. There was no value in it for me. Horrible interface, can't turn off the controller vibration, console is bigger than an old school VCR, etc. UGH. By the time Scalebound and Quantum Break get released, a nice slim Xbox One should be hitting the market.

Nice try about the PS4 only selling 25 million consoles because they were first. That's a ******* joke!!! A week earlier doesn't mean anything and here's why - PS4 was SOLD OUT during pre-orders while thousands and thousands of Xbox One consoles were sitting on the shelves of Best Buy, GameStop and everywhere else. If you really believe this then you're a bigger Microsoft and Xbox One fanboy than I could ever be for Sony and PS4. LMFAO.

Re-read his post. He said if the current state Xbox was what it was at launch, PS4 wouldn't be at 25 mil now.

From 10000 other posts...you are concerned about the dollar, trading games in, no sales on digital and can't be traded in, $20 for an indie game is too much, on and on. Yet when there were talks about PS4 possibly dropping price $50, you say they shouldn't do it because Xbox only outsold them a single month this year or whatever it was, it isn't close enough to price drop, etc etc. For someone so worried about monetary value, you aren't for a price drop on a console to save plenty of others a pocket full of money? Then on a rant with caps and explicit language how what you mis-read was a huge joke. That my friend is a fanboy that can never be topped, even if how you read it were true lol.

I espouse my beliefs here, in threads like this, not because I care what MS or Sony thinks of me or to try to "convince anyone" but to try to provide insight for others so that they can purchase what works for them best. I have no allegiance to any company and neither should anyone else.

Last gen I was an Xbox guy, before that a PS2 gamer and now mostly a PS4 gamer. I've always owned most, if not all, consoles though as they each have their exclusives I enjoy.

People do need to get a grip and remember everyone's different as to what suits them best but I also don't think everyone who posts here their preferences and valid reasons why are somehow trying to push an agenda.

This will be the first time since ps2/xbox that I'll own both systems.

They're both great consoles and it's just a matter of who's exclusives you prefer and which system most of your friends you play with are on.

I'll be picking up the xbone for Gears alone, add in the entertainment features, the guys I play with outside of OS and my girl wanting it too, it's a no brainer for me.

As for my Ps4, I love it, simple interface, solid Osers I run with it in GTA, Sony's exclusives, can't go wrong with either.

Although I do hate the Wi-Fi problem with the Ps4, speeds drop when your not hard wired. I also don't like that your never notified when friends hop online, and you can't hide offline to avoid the one annoying guy everybody has on their list.

I don't regret Ps4 being my first console and won't regret my purchase of the one. I'll split my gaming time between the two and enjoy the best of both.

How does that matter to us? Both these consoles are here to stay and both doing fine in The U.S. Even Nintendo will be around. Shouldn't our concerns be what games are coming out?

NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.
