    Re: Gaming Monitor discussion

Which monitors out right now for $400 and below include HDR?

I've seen the one Sbauer purchased and I was heavily leaning towards that one around Black Friday. However I have it thought and I might want to pick one up that includes HDR because my kids or my wife may watch 4K content on it from time to time.

    I'm looking for around 27".

Thanks in advance you tech savvy guys out there.

Oh one more thing. Any monitors have the port (forgot the name, the audio fiber optic port that the vanilla & pro have but the slim lacks)?

Of will I need to buy a second receiver because I'm not moving my Yamaha receiver with that port for my monitor.

If you want true HDR, you'll have to go with a TV. No current monitors support HDR right now. They're coming but they'll likely be expensive

Well if that's the case then I'll go with your model. I don't need a TV right now, I want a monitor that'll replace my BenQ.

Overall, I have no complaints. With that being said, some people don't like the stand and the monitor control button interface so you may want to check it out in a store. The Micro Center near me had it on display.

I have a stand for a triple monitor setup so I don't use the stand that it came with. I just mount it.

Once I get to the point of ordering my PC stuff and new desk I'll be focusing on a good monitor. Leaning towards a BenQ.

Hopefully March I'll have everything in house and will be back to 75% PC.

Before you settle on a brand, what do you want in your monitor? 1080p? 1440p? 60 or >= 144hz? IPS or TN?

BenQ makes good stuff, but Asus and Acer make some of the best PC gaming monitors you can buy right now.

Depends on final decision of PC really but obviously the best quality I can get. Money isn't an issue but need to stay away from divorce court too lol

And yeah I have been looking at ASUS also. (Mainly due to bias as my last gaming laptop that I'm still using right now has been GREAT)

Will eventually be a 3 monitor setup but want my main one to be sweet.

Really looking at getting this monitor as I'm wanting to transfer to gaming on a monitor, this has really good reviews and a decent price point. Anyone have any experience with this monitor that can shed some light on it either good or bad?

It's a solid monitor, but it's a TN panel so your colors won't be as accurate and your viewing angles won't be great. Typical TN vs IPS argument. I can't go back to TN after using IPS monitors for years. I'll gladly trade in 3-4ms response rate for an IPS panel.

sbauer, I picked up this monitor last night and it seems really nice. But I am trying to find some optimized settings for gaming and have not been able to find much. What settings do you use for gaming on the ps4 pro?

Hmmm that big of a difference huh. I'm taking it that TN panels from what I gather through research appear more "washed" out if that's the term I'm looking for, still doing comparisons to see what fits me best

                        Thanks for the feedback

You'll see some washed out references. Some are worse than others though. Some TN manufacturers do their best to reduce the washout, but the colors will never be as accurate.

Honestly, I'd go to a store and check it out. You'll likely see a bunch of a TN and IPS panels sitting next to each other. Keep in mind that calibration levels may be dramatically different though. Some company's ship with a decent profile, while others don't.

Go into Menu > Picture > Picture Adjust > HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color should be set to On.

That will get you what you need in terms of 4K. Outside of that, you can create your own profile or use one of their gaming profiles. I'm currently using FPS Game 1. You can change it by clicking on the button, and pushing up once. You'll then see the game mode profile displayed on the upper right corner of the screen. It'll also show you some details about it. If you want to try a different one, while the profile is still active on the top right corner, hit up again and it'll change. Keep hitting up until you find one you like.
