    Re: Gaming Monitor discussion

Finally hooked up my pc to my 4k sony tv with HDR to play Rise of Tomb Raider and wow the colors are amazing. Hitting 60 fps consistently. The colors are better than my ultra wide Asus but its definitely not as smooth and it made kinda queezy actually.

I'll play on it some more but i prefer higher fps and the extra view you get on ultrawide.

Its nice to have options until someone makes an ultrawide 4k 200hz ips panel with HDR.

I'm tired of waiting for a 4K HDR monitor. What are your recommendations for a good 4K monitor. I know an LG was being thrown around a few times in the last couple of pages. Is that still the 'one' to get?

Added an Asus Rog pg279q 27" monitor to my rig setup to along with the ultrawide. Amazing monitor, the colors pop more and its super smooth at 165hz. If it weren't for the extra real estate on my ultra wide i would use this as my main gaming montior. At the moment using it play Netflix content and any games that don't support 21:9

Ultra wide is cool, but man, 165hz, ips. It deserves to be the main monitor

yeah i'm thinking about it but I still would like the ultrawide right in front of me to feel more emersive whenever i use it. Good thing I ordered a loktec arm for each montior so I can pull the 27" closer to me whenever i game on it.

This confirms with me though that having a higher refresh rate is better than higher resolution. I played awhile on my 4k tv and I didn't know how much it would bother me playing at 60 fps.

I have a Dell 2716DG. When connected via DP it operates at 2560 x 1440. However, if I switch it to the HDMI to play Xbox and then switch back, it goes to 600 x 400 (or something along those lines).

To fix this, I have to unplug and plug back in.

              Anyone have any ideas?

                I know it's technically not a "monitor," but I just went from an LG Plasma 2005 model (1080i & 720p) to a Sony XBR 43" 4k/HDR.

No words... other than incredible. PS4 PRO is just a whole other system with a tv like this.

                    Re: Gaming Monitor discussion

Amazon had the AOC G2460PF on sale for $199 so I snagged one.

When I hooked it up last night via DP 1.2 I was getting these loud pops from the monitor, graphical artifacts, and screen going blank.

                    Video of it here
                    http://twitter.com/PhobiaOS/status/913218208785732585

I immediately figured the monitor was dead on arrival, but I started researching anyway and came across dozens and dozens of posts about the exact same issue & funny enough they all had one thing in common. The R9 series of cards from AMD paired with a displayport cable 1.2 is getting the same exact thing.

So I then boxed up the monitor, took it to work, and tested it on my work PC via DP1.2, NO ISSUES. Monitor works fantastic via 144hz & DP.

I'm now in a conundrum, is it a problem with my video card?

OR is it an issue with how I'm connecting three monitors? I'm running a samsung 27" IPS via HDMI, an older 24" via DVI, and this new AOC via DP 1.2.

                    The 290 manual states this...

                    "Multiple Displays:
Your AMD Radeon; R9 290 graphics card provides display functionality for up to five displays using any combination of the following:

                    Any number of DisplayPort connections.

You can connect more than one display to a DisplayPort connection using a daisy chain configuration or a hub (multi-display support is made possible through the DisplayPort v1.2 standard).

Two connections between the dual-link DVI and HDMI connections.

Note: Display functionality for up to six displays may be possible through custom display output configuration on partner boards."
Now I'm wondering, can I not connect 3 monitors in this fashion? If I understand what they are saying, only 2 monitors are supported via DVI + HDMI, so this means adding a 3rd via DP 1.2 is not supported? Am I correct in understanding that?

I can always connect the AOC via DVI but then I lose FreeSync. So I'm attempting to figure out where to go from here.

                    Any ideas guys??

Picked up the Viewsonic 27" 1440p 144hz IPS monitor with g sync. Amazing. So smooth and picture is fantastic. I thought 1080p was nice until this.

What kind of gaming will you do?

I just think if you’re going to spend that much and have a huge monitor it should be at 1440p and from the specs it’s a 1080p monitor. It’s also has an aspect ratio of 32:9 so most things won’t fit the screen fully as most new games go 21:9.

With that price you can get a sick 34 inch ultra wide with 100hz, 1440p with movies and games filling the whole screen.
