    Re: Microsoft E3 2016 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/13)

I thought MS had a great conference, nothing that made me want to go out and get an XB1 but great showing.

That being said, it feels like 2013 all over again. Their messaging with the XB1 S and Scorpio is all types of confusing. First off, when they showed the S they had the messaging that the controller was separate, which they later clarified, but still confused thousands right away.

Now Phil Spencer is saying that the Scorpio only will give any benefit on a 4K tv which I find completely insane. All that power and it's only going to be a 4K machine? Thanks Phil for saving me money, no reason for me to get it unless I invest in a new TV along with your $700 XB1. Awesome. MS continues to step on it's own feet when they announce hardware. I never would have even brought up the Scorpio at the conference because now you have 12-18 months of questions coming your way and confused gamers.

Still running a 1080p TV? Then you should forget about buying Xbox Scorpio.
That’s the message from Xbox boss Phil Spencer. He was asked by Eurogamer about the thinking behind announcing the new Xbox One S only to an hour later reveal a brand new machine, Xbox Scorpio.
“You should buy [the Xbox One S], because Scorpio is not going to do anything for you,” Spencer said after asking the reviewer what TV he had – in this instance a 1080p set. “Scorpio is designed as a 4K console, and if you don't have a 4K TV, the benefit we've designed for, you're not going to see."
“Clearly, you can buy Scorpio, and if and when you decide you want to buy a 4K television to take advantage of the increased performance, obviously the console will be ready for you. For us in the industry, it's easy to think that most power is always the thing that wins. If you look at last gen, what won? The Wii won. The Wii sold more than we did on Xbox 360 and the PS3, and it wasn't the most powerful console out there. Price is critically important. Wii was a good price and it had a great experience.
“Scorpio is for the person who's got a 4K television, who's really focused on 4K gaming. It's going to be a premium price over what we're selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that's what we designed it for.”
It was speculated yesterday that while it seems Xbox Scorpio will have a quite significant power advantage over PS4 Neo, that advantage will come at a cost – that literally being the cost, which could be some $100 more than Sony’s new machine.

I'm more confused by your post then the conference. Only a 4k machine? Yeah don't believe that for a second. Pretty sure games that don't run the 1080 at 60 will be boosted with that power. VR will work on it so I'm lost on your only a 4k machine.

$700 machine? Never saw a price and knowing Microsoft with the last release I doubt it will be $700.

I've seen more people excited for this then anything. The ones that aren't are the ones who don't want upgraded systems so soon. Are Sony Fanboys or hate Microsoft. Or people who have a bunch of misinformation that they are basing their judgement off of.

Wow, that's crazy. They literally have learned nothing. Once again sending out mixed messages and contradicting themselves. Satya Nadella needs to commission someone to write and send a new training manual on communication skills to the Xbox team.

Since the statements were by Phil Spencer, not sure why you're saying I said them about it being a 4K only system.

I'm guessing at the $699 price tag. There's a lot of hardware in there to expect it to be a $400 machine.

Please avoid the fanboy talk. I simply shared comments by Phil Spencer himself.

That's a lot of advertised power just to go to waste for 4K only.

Sorry man but your post makes little sense. Scorpio is a 4k machine. The slim is for 1080p sets. The slim is a bit more powerful then the standard. More games developed in future will run higher rez and frames over standard xb1. The original Xbox one will be gone come next summer. If I have a 1080p TV why do I want to spend money on machine that produces 4k gaming. The slim also has better upscale then original xb1

I'm thinking about picking up a slim . They fixed a lot of my complaints. (Not a X1 owner ) that made me go to ps4. I won't have a 4ktv for a few years lol. But I do like their ecosystem and controllers.

Their messaging is so confusing. You're telling me that a machine that is supposed to run games at 4K isn't going to see an increase in performance for being able to run games at 1080p with higher framerates. Just makes no sense if you aren't going to see a performance increase. Part of me wonders if he mispoke or if he's trying to push people to buying the Slim also instead of just waiting for the Scorpio. Really shady messaging if that's the case.

Now this interview with Spencer seems to contradict the other statement.

Game developers will be able to use Project Scorpio's 6 teraflops of GPU power in any way they wish, and won't be forced to hit a native 4K resolution, head of Xbox Phil Spencer suggested in a video posted earlier this week.

Speaking in the video (below), Spencer explained that Scorpio is a "6 teraflop gaming machine, which will be a great gaming machine for true 4K gaming, giving you a native 4K frame buffer so you can see games in all their beauty.

"Or," he continued, "if developers want to use those 6 teraflops in other ways they're free to do that."

Spencer's comments suggest that developers may be able to use Scorpio's additional power to deliver more visually impressive games at a lower resolution, rather than be forced to render at native 4K.

                        Really confusing.

He's saying as far as Scorpio

If you want the full fledged experience 4K tv is recommended . (4K gaming , VR, )

You can't play 4K game on a 1080p set. However if developers should to use that extra power to run 1080p at 60 fps using Scorpio they also have that option. If that's the case you won't need to use a 4ktv.

Take Battlefield . If a Dev chooses to make a 4K version for Scorpio you will need a 4ktv. If a Dev chooses instead to use this game for 1080p 60 fps using Scorpio no 4ktv will be needed for THAT game.

XB1's conference was pretty damn good imo. They showed games, RELEASE dates, new features (background music really? ), and new consoles. I don't get why people are still hating.

I don't think anyone is trying to hate, there's just a lot of confusion around the consoles right now, and no one really knows what to expect. It's easy for things to get overhyped.

One console is a slim version that plays 4K videos while the other is capable of running 4K games. What's confusing about that?
