    Re: Microsoft E3 2016 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/13)

I think it's important to remember that for 1080p gaming, the Neo specs and confirmed Scorpio specs are more than enough for 60fps and ultra settings. You will probably start seeing differences in the 4K gaming and VR fidelity, but I'm mostly just a 1080p gamer. I will proudly own both systems

The Scorpio news and BF1 gameplay were highlights of E3 for me so far, followed by everything Spny showed as far as just hot game after hot game

Sony was the first to compare this approach to a cell phone weren't they? Think they're all in on the iterative approach too, just haven't announced their own plans.

Wonder if MS has a comic publisher exclusive to counter Sony's Spider-Man and Batman VR. 😞

This is the main reason Phil was confident when he said it will be the most powerful console ever made.

I think the Neo Specs are more then fine and will do great in sales and games will look amamzing
Seriously??? Two years in the making??? So SIX MONTHS after launching Xbox One, they were already working on Scorpio???

See, this is what makes me angry by both companies. They both do the same crap yet amazingly, don't mention any of it back then and just expect gamers to spend another $400+ on the same damn console in the same generation.

Both Sony and Microsoft should have just started work on PS5/Xbox 4, make them fully backwards compatible with PS4/Xbox One and released them at the end of 2018. Five year cycles. No mid gen upgrades. Start clean and fresh. No extra cost. No one to piss off. And best of all, there would actually be nothing but positive excitement over a whole new generation of console gaming.

Sad part is that playing Uncharted 4 on PS4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (which I think is the console's best looking game) on Xbox One, both games look great. Visually, I must be one of the very few gamers nowadays that thinks games look great as they are and don't even need an improvement.

There's far more for me to complain about with games than visuals. UGH. Ah, whatever.

            Re: Microsoft E3 2016 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/13)

Honest question, isn't that basically what they're doing, though? We are just looking 4 years instead of 5 years? I know you didn't like this comparison when it was made awhile back but it really is similar to cell phones. The Sony guy himself referenced cell phone model in his statement.

Seems to me like we may need to abandon the idea of "generations" as they typically govern console gaming and accept its shifted toward more PC style delivery. It's,not like console are gonna have radically different architectures like ps2 to PS3 to ps4 anymore.

I guess at a certain point there will have to be a cutoff, where the stock ps4 can't play games that these newer ones can, I get that, and the lines kinda get blurry I guess.

Not trying to ignite a war, just my honest and genuine thoughts, I respect everyone's opinion on it.

I'm sure in 4 years we will be hearing about Xbox Piranah and PS BOOM or whatever the heck they are gonna keep naming these things.

I feel like there's a reason both companies are doing this, I gotta think they know what they are doing. I honestly haven't seen any rage at all outside of this forum, I feel the Scorpio news was really positively received

It's new, and it's different, and it's a change, and I get that those can be kinda weird things to adjust to but in 10 years I think it's just gonna be the new normal and we will be better for it, as gamers.

            In my opinion

Yes Playstation came out with lots of really cool looking games but who knows when most of them will come out and I doubt I'll play most of them anyway. I'm glad Microsoft talked about the future and had other quality of life news/features in there, I didn't want it to just be games.

Just my opinion though. I'm really excited for the future and the options we'll have on Xbox.
Agreed. I was more impressed with MS.

I sort of wonder what the incentive for an Xbox One owner is to buy the S with Scorpio right around the corner? Same with someone who doesn't have a Juan yet... Why wait until August 31 for a slight upgrade at $399 when you can now go to BBY, GameStop, etc., and get a current Xbone for $279.

It just seems smarter to stick with the current offering and wait for Scorpio. We all like new things though I suppose.

Not sure why this is a surprise or upsetting to you, this happens with everything.

It takes a long time to develop something like this, even smaller things like yearly videos games do this. NBA 2K16 comes out and boom they are already working on 17.

Phone companies, car companies, etc. pretty much everyone does it. I wouldn't really take it as a slight to the consumer at all, it's just part of development.

PS4 and XB1 came out end of 2013 but you do know that these consoles were in process and development for 2 to 3 years before that. It takes a long time for companies to get a console based on many factors.

The XB1 Slim was something MS started to work with right after the XB1 original came out. They just were able to add features that people complained about to final retail

To me I wish Sony would have released a slimmer PS4 or updated model with same power specs but with UHD playback and streaming.

Reason is because now if you want to get your 4K streaming or 4K blu ray watching with sony console it will have to be on Neo at the cost of much more then standard ps4

MS is super smart for once and that 300 dollar 500gb model is going to appeal and fly off the shelves to many 4K tv owners who want a UHD player but dont want to spend 500 retail

The person who gets the slim is going to get a much sexier console and better standard controller with no power brick, blu tooth and 4K streaming and 4K UHD playback via disc and not to mention HDR which higher end 4K tvs have like my Samsung one. Games will take advantage of this like Gears of War 4

It might be 1080p on xbox 1 and xbox slim but the slim version will look better due to HDR.... That is worth upgrade alone if you have a 4K tv

Personally, the smaller console is one I can see having for a long time, putting on a secondary TV when Scorpio releases, etc. The size of the One currently + brick really doesn't lend itself to that kind of longevity, even though it's designed for exactly that. Also using it as an impetus to start watching for 65" 4k HDR TVs

Makes sense that the $399 model is hitting first for enthusiasts and to build inventory, they might not be able to keep the $299 model in stock for the holiday. It + a game, or even on sale for any discount at all from MSRP is a nice deal any way you look at it. Games with Gold gets a new purchaser another 40+ games before Scorio comes out and it sounds like at least i the short term games might be forward compatible - which I'm not super comfortable with really, but we'll see.

Slim models are usually cheaper than the original model. Look at the Xbox One slim, the 2TB one is $400 while the original is now $270. Granted, you're getting more hard drive capacity and a UHD drive but at the same time, why not do this to begin with?

Personally, I think that companies do all of this on purpose just to spend more money on something you already own. Scorpio will be even more than $400. I'm guessing $500.

Seriously, for $500, it shouldn't be Xbox One. It be Xbox 4 and built from the ground up. And Phil Spencer saying that no one gets left behind is bullcrap. When people see the games look and run better on Scorpio compared to the original Xbox One, you're basically getting left behind.

Don't get me wrong. Both Sony and Microsoft are doing the same exact crap. I just think that instead of building a more powerful Xbox One console, why not just build an entire new console and start the ninth generation instead of 8.5?

Both companies would accomplish what they want, you get to move on if you want to and at least when games aren't as good on the previous console (Xbox One) compared to the next gen console (Xbox 4), it would be because it's cross-gen like the beginning on this gen when you saw games on Xbox 360/Xbox One and PS3/PS4.

Huge difference when you have games look and run better on the "next gen" console compared to the previous gen console as opposed to games looking and running better on a mid gen upgrade compared to the console you purchased just a few years earlier.

Question for you since you probably know.....will the UHD drive install the games off the disc faster than the current Xbox One?

It's not what they're doing. When a new gen starts, when have you ever been able to play a past gen game on a new gen console? Unless the console was backwards compatible, past gen games wouldn't work. And in this example, PS2 playing PS1 discs, the difference was clear - some discs were CD and PS1 while others were DVD and PS2.

What's being done now is not the same thing because you'll still be able to put in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag which was a launch title in Scorpio and it will still play because it's the same generation. And all of those old games aren't going to be updated unless the publisher decides to do it and majority won't.

Andrew House did compare consoles to cell phones and im sorry, but he's full of crap. Cell phones do a billion different things that can't be done on a console, is small, portable, can fit in your pocket and doesn't need to be plugged into an power outlet. I hate the comparison because it's simply not the same thing.

To each their own but I hate the entire idea.

Question for you...how is really better for gamers? Say you purchased an Xbox One at launch for $500 and four years later, have to spend another $500 on Scorpio. That's $1000 on a console that's in the same generation. Seriously, how is that better for gamers?

If gamers support this, nothing will stop them from doing this ever two years, then what? Sorry but I hope this idea completely bombs for both companies.

Why does it matter if it's the same generation or not? Why does that need to exist anymore?

Consoles in the past had different architectures which caused issues with supporting previous games. There's no need for that right now. They utilize standard pc hardware.

Best I can find, the spec for the read speed on a 4k compliant BD drive is 82Mbit/s, 108Mbit/s and 128Mbit depending on disc capacity/density.

Current read speed on the Xbox One/PS4 BD drives is 27Mbit/s I believe.

Just need the proper SSD support and these could be very fast all around.

Not sure but wasnt it Quantum Break that you could play both the PC and Xbox version with just the disk. The way I understood it is if you buy it on Xbox One or a Microsoft Console, your PC will see that you own that copy of the game through the Xbox App on Windows 10. That will allow you to access the Microsoft Store through the PC to download the game.

After the conference when they were talking to Microsoft, one of the things they said really stood out to me. "If a gamer buys a game on console then they want to play the same game for PC, they shouldnt have to pay for it twice".

You guys brought up an interesting point with trh cross play, the cheating definitely could be an issue. Another thing I wonder is if MS will put out their own branded Windows 10 PC as a starter kit, kind of like a Steam Machine baseline, "this machine will play Xbox Anywhere titles at least as well as an Xbox One" or something like that. Also they were very vague about Scorpio, hard to take anything from it when they're trying to trick people by throwing out teraflops and higher quality pixels lol. We'll see.
Pretty sure this will be handled pretty well by Microsoft. I look at it as Microsoft using a form of Steam on PC. For example, their Xbox app or Windows 10 app will be a new form of Uplay, Origin, Steam. The basis of it will be much like Xbox Live allowing them to limit "Cheaters and Hackers" like they would on console if that makes since.
