    Re: Microsoft E3 2016 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/13)

There's a new article/quote from Phil in the Xbox thread about the topic
"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I would hope they finally have release dates... most of the games shown, they already announced at prior E3's... so about time to have a release date if you show them again.

All I am saying on the 'release date' part.

Why bring Sony into this? Nobody is talking about Sony.

Again, E3 was always about announcing new exciting software... they had release dates for games they showed already up to 2 E3's ago... I would hope they have release dates if you are going to waste opportunity showing them again.

Their portfolio beyond those dates however... does not look so hot at this point in time.

You can announce a release date at any other trade show event, or even through social media like they always have. I saw a time slot, made for new exciting announcements, filled with games they already show 2 E3's in a row, to finally have dates you could have said last week?

That is why I was not too impressed.

E3's were aways about announcing new exciting software, never was a 'release date' focus.

That's a bit of a reach, and beyond that I'm not sure what point you're trying to make other than to stir the pot. A few games were at E3 last year, otherwise MS also showed brand new games we haven't seen nor were announced yet that have release dates attached to them. Pretty even mix, and almost all available in the next 6 months.

'When can I play it' is always a focus. It was funny, GAF was ripping up EA because they mentioned before their presser they'd be showing things 'for 2017 and beyond' - until someone pointed out Sony 'won' last years E3 by showing a bunch of titles that even now look to be 2017-2018 propositions with the exception of TLG. Two different approaches, but being able to set expectations is certainly a net positive.

              Stir the pot?

I am giving my opinion. Putting in CAPS the release dates was a little bait. I bit, and expressed my opinion as to why I was not impressed. This is like the 15th+ E3 I have seen, and the the first where I seen the same games shown again, that were shown or announced 1 to 2 E3's ago. So I would like to think, one should not get a reward to have a release date, because it would have been even worse if there was none, lol.

I can have personal opinions like anyone else. You do not have to agree with them, you do not have to have mutual respect for them, but you should not silence them with a strawman accusation.

Again, this is not about anyone else other than Microsoft, in, *looks at title*, yep, a Microsoft E3 thread. And who cares about GAF? This is Operation Sports. And no website community is a 'hive mind', though their narration over there is questionable at times.

Nothing is more exciting then hearing about a possible great game and realize it might be coming in 2 years.

MS games have dates and fall into next year. And we will have another E3 before most of the sony announced games even come out.

So yeah. I want a conference to talk about games coming that year or early next year. If you want to hype me with a great game that comes out after the next E3 you are wasting my time.

I tend to prefer less time waiting for a game....like Bethesda not unveiling their 2 new big games yet....they'll tell us under a year before they drop and we'll be hyped a ton then get the game.

Vs. Ubisoft who shows us games year after year and the graphics drop....

Yup this is how I feel. But I understand there really sends to be two types of people in viewing E3. You have the ones who want the games coming in the next year and then you have the ones who just want surprises regardless of dates.

For Microsoft conference I was okay with gears being shown last year and this year because there was a beta between the E3s so it makes sense to announce it before the beta. Recite is another one I was okay with as it is coming out at the end of this summer is a new IP and smaller game so trying to hype it in 3 months might not be the best method.

Scalebound and sea of thieves I think would have been better leaving for just this E3 as they are still a ways away so the multiple times for them seems like wasted time.

But knowing I can be playing a good chunk of the games announced in the next year to me is great keep the other games under wrap and bring them out closer to completion.

And for the other group I think Sonys last year conference was a fid example. Their big 3 announcements were the last guardian which just got a release date at this E3. Final fantasy 7 which wasn't at this E3 and I don't believe has a date yet and Shenmu again like final fantasy. They were the surprise factors with no dates. They are cooking but when is the question.

Neither view is wrong and it just depends on what you want out of the conference.

Have to admit that one thing im not a fan of is showing games too early. To me, any game shown at E3 for the first time should be released within 18 months, if not sooner.

I have no interest in TLG or FFVII Remake but I am interested in Shenmue III. Granted, it's probably a late 2017 or 2018 release but since it was a kickstarter, I can't really argue them announcing the game at last year's E3. After all, if they didn't do that, it was most likely never going to be developed. The game has only been in development for a year, if that so in regards to Shenmue III, I disagree.

In general though, publishers just need to stop showing their games too early. I loved the approach Bethesda took with Fallout 4. Wasn't into the game at all when I played it but it was awesome that it was announced and shown at E3 2015 and released five months later even though some could argue that it needed more time. Ubisoft did the same thing this past Monday with Watch Dogs 2. In five months, the game will be in stores.

Nevertheless, im good for the rest of 2016. Deus Ex, Recore, Mafia III, Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1 and Watch Dogs 2. Barring delays, 2017 will be stacked even more. Getting any games that aren't expected will just be a bonus.

But Sony's Andrew House told IGN he was surprised that MS announced Scorpio more then a year away.

Yet Sony if you look at it might have been forced into showing their future games early because they had nothing much to say or show that is going to be sold in the coming months.

They showed games that you can bet will come after scorpio is released. And he is surprised?

Yea it was sold for both sides.

I enjoyed it, outside of employees of MS & Sony I don't see why anyone else would view it any other way.

Hell, maybe even employees of those companies enjoyed each other's showing lol.
