    But THIS comment?

YOU are bat stir crazy my friend

Your thinking as if 300 is a lot of money its not. Not when compared to so many things in the past or present.

I mean an iphone 7 is like 799?

Its only at a "deal" when you finagle a service provider deal and im using that as one example

But alas I KNOW we will NOT agree in this aspect

Lets hope someday a NCAA football game just comes out again my man

It is not about the idea of $300 being a lot or a little though, it's about what is relative to what the competition is offering in order to successfully to compete. $300 really isn't that much to me personally but I view it through the program of relativity to what is out there and on the market, as most consumers do.

For example, I enjoy a good 20 once Diet Pepsi every now and then and I pay about $2, give or take for one. I expect to pay about that because other pops in the 20 one realm is about $2 per bottle.

If one day I went to buy a Diet Pepsi and it was $5 then I'd ask "why should I pay this much when I can get a Diet Coke or a Diet RC for $2?"

Is not because suddenly $5 is a lot of money to me but I'd see it that way because the perceived value is not correct and is askew according to market competitors.

I view the Nintendo Switch like this, it's cool and I love Nintendo and yes I want one but I cannot overlook that the market value is being ignored here and thus I will not be buying one until that issue is corrected and it's not made a much better value.

Now that's just me, I know some people don't view it that way at all...and it will all of course, at least initially, but let me tell you, most consumers definitely do view it that way who are not diehard "Nintendo is king" fans and this is not going to succeed of Nintendo doesn't get that concept art some point

I'm not just looking at this from my perspective either Tomba, I'm looking at it from what I think the market will and if something doesn't change I see this hurling towards Wii U failure. So even though I know you don't agree with my opinion I hope you can see my concerns about these issues as to the longevity of Nintendo hardware success..

For now the system will do well of course but let's see if Nintendo can actually compete to stay in the hardware business or if they will go to their demise and become software only ala Sega because of their inordinate stubbornness...

It isn't direct competition though. Nintendo (Reggie specifically) said they don't want to compete by just throwing in the best GPU. Nintendo likes to innovate, try new types of technology, have games/systems that bring people together in different ways. Not just bring more of the same.

Nintendo can believe what they liked and yes it's not 100% direct, some of Nintendos offerings and approach are different from the other 2, but bottom line is they are all video game systems and people will all weigh them, and compare them relative to that, in the same overall light.

Like I said, for launch it's obviously not an issue, as the Switch has sold out. But this issue will rear it's head once again this Christmas season and Nintendo had better have a good, solid plan to address the consumer issues that are there and have been brought up time and time again since this launch was announced.

If Nintendo thinks it can put up a weak showing against murderous competition from Sony and Microsoft this holiday shopping season then it's arrogance is astounding, it will be left behind and the Switch may never recover.

              Friend codes are BACK! WOOOOOO!!11!!1

This just went from "meh" to "must buy" with the reintroduction of friend codes by Nintendo. It's just not multiplayer gaming without a random 12 digit code to try and remember and type into a system. Thanks, Nintendo!

Sounds like Breath of the Wild is something special. I picked the right time to rejoin the Nintendo family. 98 Metacritic score after 56 reviews.

Though my thoughts on this are a bit moot, since I have no intention of buying a Switch (until they have sports games available for it anyway), I have to respectfully disagree with you, ODogg. The PS4 and the XB1 are in direct competition - each is a videogame console giving a similar experience. One probably could not be priced significantly higher than the other for the reasons you discuss. However, my gaming is 60-70% on my Vita and 30-40% on my PS4. A Switch would allow me to play the same game on the same system whether I am home or out. That is an experience that is just not available on another system. It is not the same as remote play (and since they stopped making a Vita version of The Show, there is no sports game being made for the Vita). If there was baseball/football/hockey on the Switch, I would jump at paying $300 for the system. As it is, I have no interest whatsoever. That has nothing to do with the price, and everything to do with the games (not just sports games - other games I play, like GTA or (in the past, Burnout) will also not be coming on Switch. Yeah, I know I am not the majority, but I am not sure the price will be the reason the Switch fails (if it fails).

Quality/number of games (especially third party games) will decide it...you make good points. I'd just add though that the Switch is competing directly with PS4/XB1 for gaming dollars...not everyone buys every system anymore, so if there's not enough value then some possible buyers won't be picking it up

Yes you are coming from a unique perspective. And I'm not sure the price will be the end all be all reason if the Switch fails either, but it's sure not helping things much. I mean my wife was going to surprise me and buy me a Nintendo Switch until she saw it was $300. Now she didn't say this but if it was even $199 or $249 maybe she would have. But she told me that "was just too much".

Price isn't everything and to some people it's absolutely nothing, but keep in mind a lot of people, parents especially are well aware of price as a major factor in purchasing decisions. Also, remember it's not just about price but VALUE. If Nintendo had put in some games, even if they weren't grade AAA titles, with the Switch the value would be much better.

Price and value are two different, but related, things. So while the $299 price point really isn't terrible for Nintendo the value of what you are getting is when you consider the alternatives.

I keep hearing from folks that the Switch isn't competing with PS4 or Xbox One. That would be incorrect, it most certainly is. I think a lot of OSers here and more experienced folks realize the nuances, some of which are rather large, in what the systems each offer but remember to general Joe Consumer these are just video game consoles and will be compared to one another when it's time to buy.

Nintendo most certainly is in direct competition with Sony and Microsoft and if they think like some of you do, that they aren't, then they won't be in the hardware business much longer.

I actually just figured it out. It was because I had three periods and then capped rushed. I just skipped a space in between the periods and rushed and it now appears correctly.

                                This says it all...

Outside of the fluke that was the original Wii, every console has decreased in sales/user install base since the NES. in other words, NES is still Nintendo's best sold console. That's kind of sad.

Nintendo may not like to compete with Sony or Microsoft but whether they want to or not, they are competing for consumers and as a consumer, when you see the PS4 Slim/XB1S at $250-$300 and look over three years worth of games, far superior online capabilities and just an overall better package for the cost, the Switch simply doesn't hold up.

Seriously, I don't play online but no online at launch is bad. No VC at launch is even worse. No game worth playing outside of Zelda at launch is beyond even worse. LOL.

Nintendo should have delayed the console until September. The extra six months would have not only resolved the Joycon connection issue but to have VC and online up and running 100% at launch would have been huge. The lineup would have also been arguably one of the best in console launch history. Add in the ability to play on the go and yeah, definitely better than what it is now.

Oh well. Have to wait and see how it all plays out.
