Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

There were game sites previews and news of The Switch did so without using the term of "Gimmick"..

Just shows you can find whatever you want on the interwebs to support an argument.

Either way .. lets move on...

My biggest concern is what the battery life will be. Now it isn't a HUGE concern because I have my 3DS for travel and highly doubt I ever take the console on the road. So with that in mind the selling point for me will be exactly how powerful it will be etc..

I'm assuming it won't use DVD and is a cartridge system which means no WII U BC support.

I may just buy up all the titles I never got around to playing on the WII U and possibly grab a Switch a year or so from now.

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

The Switch is the heir apparent to GameCube. Its an extension that was never done. the Wii was a departure and the wii u was a missed opportunity(had the power but no real vision by Nintendo to understand what we wanted with it).

I personally hated the wii, but i came to grips with the wii u and now after the reveal of the switch i am all in...

Nintendo completely didnt show any kids in the reveal video, but grown ups. Nintendo made sure to show sports titles and rpgs.
Nintendo made sure that the new system looked more like a next gen console.
And Nintendo made sure that they made the handheld "idea" appeal to grown ups.

this is my biggest take away. They made a system for ME.

lets be honest here we can undock this when we take a LOO.

we can dock this when we want to see it on a bigger screen(Something I wish the 3ds did somehow)

we can now be sure that graphics on a big screen MATCH on a portable.

and we're back to cartridges...a little throwback to UNIQUE game media not since the gamecube mini-discs.

The list of dev. support is enlightening but i still proceed with caution as EVEN the Wii had shovelware and games AIMED at a younger audience that took over.

I'm all for fun games but i need those fun games to cater to what made Nintendo games originally fun for me not ADAPT to this new way of FUN Nintendo has been doing with their Wii and Wii U Consoles.

I dont like the pass that Nintendo has gotten...Oh i can play this WITH my kids, so i guess if they like it i'll like it. NO thats BS. I need to have games like:FZERO GX and Metroid Prime BY Nintendo to keep me WANTING to even think of your brand again.

I think the Nintendo Switch might have me back to being happy with Nintendo

I keep thinking we might get a WiiU price drop announcement out of this. If it happens soon enough I'd possibly jump on one to do exactly what you just said; play the games I never got to.

Some games i was enamored with

Mario Kart 8- absolutely EVERYTHING a Mario kart Equal should be and then some. The DLC is VERY much worth it too.

Fast racing Neo - Buy the DLC as well not quite fzero but close

Xenoblade chronicles x - IF you're willing to put your time into it. Its the ULTIMATE time sync

Super Mario Land/World 3 - pure fun but moreso on 3ds

Wind Waker HD- BEST ZELDA EVER EVER MADE

TWILIGHT Princess - Better than the Dolpin retexture mods.

One thing some of you are forgetting:

Nintnendo plays a lot more into younger children then Sony and Microsoft, another reason why the mobility is so vital to their success with this thing.

Imagine kids playing a game, having to go to the store with mom or dad, it is HUGE they can simply pop on the controller and take it with them.

I'm in absolute disbelief I am seeing their mobility feature called a pure gimmick! Whew.

I thought the target marketing to a slightly older crowd (people in the commercial looked to be in their 20's) was a smart move. Kids are always going to want the latest and greatest, but to stay in the game, Nintendo needs to win the adult demographic back, or at least convince them that owning a Switch along with a PS4 or Xbox One is a good idea.

The Switch removes motion control, but also keeps Nintendo in the quirky/unique category with the console docking station and ability to make the Switch a portable/handheld device. Not having to double-buy games is a HUGE selling point for gamers, and also makes the life of developers easier, so in theory if the Switch takes off we should see more games, since EA isn't having to make a console version and a handheld version of Madden, for example.

The current rumor is that it will be. If that turns out to be true, that will be a huge positive.

So just saw this about the switch. I don't know how 10.5 million in its first year would compare to other systems but considering wii u has only sold like 13 million all together after about 4 years 10.5 in one year would be much better then wii u ever sold. <!-- / message --><!-- added 1/18/11 -->

PS4 was around 14.5-15 million sales in their first year out, if I recall correctly.

Man... $250 would be an incredible price point.

I thought it was like 20 million but maybe I am wrong. If it really did 14.5-15 million then if Switch could do like 11 million that sounds pretty good considering ps4 is sailing crazy good and that would only be like 3.5-4 million less the ps4 then if that number is right. Something I just thought about is considering this is coming out months and months before Xbox Scorpio if it does come out in march would Nintendo maybe price cut this some around the time Scorpio comes out?

Don't see $250 at all. Wii U was $350 at launch if I remember correctly and considering the fact that it's only had one price drop in four years to it's current price of $300, there's no way that Switch will be under $300. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised if it releases at $400 since Nintendo hates losing money on hardware but even if they have to take a loss, they shouldn't go any higher than $300 simply because it would then match Xbox One Slim/PS4 Slim and be $100 cheaper than PS4 Pro.

They shouldn't do any bundles either. Just the base $300 console with the handheld, the detachable chargeable controller, the docking station, hdmi cable and ac adapter.

Any extra stuff should be sold separately and at fair prices like the Pro Controller. Reason why I wouldn't do any bundles is because I wouldn't want anyone seeing the price as being more than $300. Any extra stuff that the consumer buys is completely optional.

I'm also looking forward to seeing what Nintendo does with the price for Wii U. It's currently at $300. You would think that they would decrease the price to $100 for the holidays and just eliminate the damn thing. LOL.

Only way that Nintendo would decrease the price six months later is if it ends up performing like Wii U did in sales. Other than that, knowing that Nintendo hates taking losses on hardware, I would say that there's a slim to zero percent chance.

And you can also figure that PS4 Pro will be $300 in a year from now with the Slim dropping to $200. Nintendo is in a bad position console wise. They really need to win the gamers completely over if they want the Switch to have any chance at being successful.

While yeah there is that to and I am not sure if Sony is going to drop the slim to 200 and pro to 300 next year but even if they don't I do think they will drop it to 250 for slim and 350 for pro and Xbox slim may get a price cut sometime next year to and I know that Nintendo likes to think they are not competing with Sony and Microsoft but they are as they all play video games but this is Nintendo we are talking about and they never do things normal lol. Like with the wii u and only having one price cut even with it not sailing well and Sony and Microsoft would never show a new system in just a 3 minute video and then not talk about it for a few months and want to only like 2 months before the system comes out to talk more about it.
