Yeah I don't see PS5 exclusives day one going to PC. I can see some PS4 exclusives going to EGS . Sony values Console/Plat sales too much to go day one PC releases lol

I see more Sony 1st party studios using UE5. This deal makes sense since Epic has been talking up PS5 in the last 2 month's. Like I said, I can see the first game being fully developed on UE5 being a PS5 exclusive.

I definitely don't think day one. Even Jim Ryan said they're not interested in Day One PC releases. But, can see more PC releases. I don't get the console war aspect why some would be mad to see more Sony exclusives on PC. But allowing some exclusives on PC would allow them to reach PC only gamers for more revenue and entice some to buy consoles if they don't want to wait a year or two

Only reason I'm disappointed this wasn't Microsoft making this move is it could be an opportunity to expand Game Pass and Play Anywhere further beyond the MS ecosystem, and Epic would be the perfect partner to do it as they continue to try and differentiate from Steam and others.

I don't even expect Sony to release more games via EGS, I think this will largely be development / investment related. If it means Sony does release more PC games then bring it on but I think that effort was already underway where it made sense.

Sony putting their exclusives day one on PC isn't going to hurt PlayStation at all. Those who are console gamers (like myself) aren't going to spend triple the amount to play the games on PC when we can play them on a $500 console. Those who are PC gamers first and foremost aren't going to jump into consoles because it's not their preferred platform.

Sony putting their exclusives on Epic Game Store day one is basically free money. Epic would probably pay them or be part of some kind of deal plus Sony would get a percentage of every sale plus make money a year later when the same game goes on Steam.

It's pretty much free money and gets more consumers into their eco-system. After all, why make less money when you can easily make more money?

Yeah, the bulk of their money isn't made by selling consoles anyway. In fact, during the PS3 era they were losing money per console (meaning the console cost more to produce than the money they made selling it). Maybe that will be the case this time around as well.

The majority of the profit is made by selling games, accessories, and subscriptions. If they can get PC gamers to get those portions and not from other places or companies, then they win

I don't know the exact strategy behind it, but if you look at it with common sense thinking. Why Sony would pay 250 million to put their games on PC? Unless their is something about how PC games are sold that I'm not aware of.

It's all about profits. Horizon Zero Dawn is coming soon to PC and I bet they'll cash in on that.

Sony explains its reasons for bringing Horizon: Zero Dawn to PC
This is a major move for Sony, but it doesn’t represent a seismic shift away from consoles. Hulst says the company doesn’t plan to move all of its games to PCs. And anything that does get a release on Windows won’t come anytime near the debut on a PlayStation device.

“Releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC,” said Hulst. “In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”

But then why is Sony doing this? Well, for one, it’s going to bring in more money from first-party games that are expensive to produce. But it’s also a new way to build brand recognition as Sony moves into followups for games like Horizon on PlayStation 5.

“I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation,” said Hulst. “And [to] show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.”

Putting them on PC day one would definitely lose them some console sales. I can only speak for myself but I am planning to get a PS5 as soon as I can purely for PlayStation exclusives. If they put their games on PC I prefer gaming on PC so I will have no reason to buy a PS5. I’m sure there are others who feel this way.

I hope they put them on PC day one because it’ll save me $500 or whatever the PS5 costs but I’m sure Sony is smart enough to realize they will lose console sales going on PC day one, they’d still sell plenty of copies of the games themselves but I’m sure they want to maximize console sales.

Seems though like you already own a capable PC that could run those PS5 exclusives. Sony would make more money by selling you the games on EGS and Steam than they would by selling you the console. Hardware manufacturers don't make money on consoles. They make money on everything else.

Those who are not a PC gamer like myself (I have a Toshiba Satellite from 2014) are not going to spend $1500+ on a high end power PC so those like me aren't going anywhere. Add in those who do play on PC but have their friends on PlayStation and if they have a history of buying games and are in the eco-system, they aren't going anywhere either.

If I was a PC gamer, I wouldn't even waste my time with a console. It would be all Steam, EGS, Game Pass, UPlay+ and Origin. It would be awesome and a lot cheaper overall but the 95% of console gamers like me simply have no interest in PC gaming and prefer the much easier and convenient way of console gaming.

It's all about selling the software and services. Sony is slowly doing what Microsoft has been doing for half a decade. There's a reason why Sony has a partnership with Microsoft to use their Azure infrastructure. It's to vastly improve PS Now. Before the end of the PS5 generation, Sony's exclusives will not only be on PC day one but also PS Now day one.

For one simple reason - they will make more money and be far more competitive in the areas in which they're currently non-existent. A secondary but just as important reason will be what the competition will be like and im not talking about Microsoft.

We know about Microsoft already. Google will hang around for a few years but from what I have heard, their parent company has no interest investing into Stadia. Amazon appears to not have a clue as what to do.

The biggest threat that no one sees with the exception of probably Microsoft is Tencent. They are going to be dominant within the next few years if they aren't already. They're getting ready to acquire Leyou (Warframe, etc.) right from under Sony who was very much trying to acquire them.

The entire point is that Sony needs to start getting invested into those other aspects. PC, PS Now, etc. PlayStation fans have nothing to worry about and to be perfectly honest, the more money Sony brings in from those other avenues, it's better for US, better for PlayStation, better for the eco-system. It's simply better.

Sorry for the long post but if a nobody like me can see what's coming, im 100% certain that Sony does as well. They just need to start sooner rather than later in my opinion.

I'm going to hold off buying the first batch of these consoles. The first ones always are watered down. They always come out with more memory space and smaller units after the first batch and are usually cheaper. Even if they aren't cheaper you get more the second round.

That's what I'm debating. I never bought a console at launch, usually a year after launch. I usually stick with previous gen. But this time around I don't have a console, so that'll make it a harder wait. Not concerned about price because I saved up for it by selling consoles. Not concerned about there being enough games at launch because i like what was shown so far and Backwards Compatibility. But Consoles Issues is a legit concern. I dealt with the fat PS4 disc eject issue.

But I'm going to chance it. I'm ready to preorder consoles. I signed up to be notified from 3 different places when preorders become available. Worse come to worse hopefully warranty covers issues.

I hope you’re right Peter that would be great, definitely agree longterm they would definitely make up for any lost console sales via the PC people with no desire to buy a console buying their games.

But I think there is still a sizable overlap of gamers who are both PC and console gamers that makes me unsure Sony will make the move to PC day 1, I hope you’re correct I would prefer to just go strictly PC but PlayStation exclusives keep me as someone who does both currently.

Great post though you’re definitely thinking bigger picture than I was with my initial post here, thanks for expanding upon your reasoning.

Thanks. I just see it as their next logical step. PC and PS Now day one. Doing either or both isn't going to hurt them at all. Besides, once their PS Now service is better using Azure, they will be able to do what Microsoft does with xCloud.

For console gamers such as myself, it's not going to matter one bit but for those who aren't console gamers, Sony can gain a lot of users into their eco-system and just invested into their exclusives.

Horizon Zero Dawn bas been in the top 5 on Steam since it went up for pre-order and it's $50 or $60. Basically full price and Sony will make a lot of money off it despite it being almost 3 1/2 years old.

For me, I play a lot of games and like to try a lot of games so whichever way is the cheapest is the way im going on consoles. Game Pass is one of the reasons why im going with Series X as my primary console. To save $50+ on every exclusive is huge for someone like me who likes to play a lot of games.

Then, I look at a game like Kena: Bridge of Spirits which is a timed console exclusive for PlayStation 5. It looks great and im very interested but I'll wait because if the timed exclusivity is six months or a year, there's a good chance the Series X version will have extra content included with the base game (similar to what Square Enix did with Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4) or better yet, possibly be in Game Pass day one.

I'm hoping Sony follows Microsoft and Game Pass sooner rather than later because it would be great for me and consumers in general. Also hoping Ubisoft brings UPlay+ to next gen consoles at some point.

But we'll see how it all plays out. Either way, im very hyped for next gen!!!

I considered this for about 5 minutes , but I'm such an video game addict I have to get a PS5 day one. If they end up releasing a PS5 Pro later I'll get that also. I'm passing on the Xbox this time around , it's getting to costly to own both systems. I have and Xbox one X and it's a great console but the honest truth is I rarely use it for gaming.

I agree. I'm getting it day one. Plus I haven't played a game since end of last year, so I don't think I can make it past launch lol. I already have money saved up and will preorder asap. I already have 3 sites signed up for pre order notifications lol.
