I was just going to post that interview kind of a bummer that GOW is cross gen to I fell like Sony is kind of over doing it with cross gen and has a result its going to take longer to get more like true next gen games has ps4 is going to hold back the ps5 versions.

Re: PlayStation 5
The bigger surprise to me is Gran Turismo is also cross-gen. I really feel like that's a franchise that needs one cornerstone release per generation, and then do the live service / expansion, etc stuff for the balance of it's life.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
At the Sony show last year in June for ps5 they made it seem like GT7, Horizon forbidden west, GOW where all going to be ps5 exclusive and turns out all 4 are cross gen kind of bad marketing/miss leading and also I would say a disappointment has the games will be held back some by being cross gen and means out side of Ratchet and Returnal it might take a little longer then expected to get true next gen only games.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
Part of me says seeing how good Horizon Forbidden West looks, that the games should still be high quality. But, there will always be concessions made in order to make the game scalable to the PS4. The games will still look and feel "next gen". But, it won't fully utilize the PS5’s power. You're always going to think what if it was built exclusively to PS5 and what else could've been added. But, it does benefit those that still are having troubles acquiring a PS5. Business wise it doesn't make sense to just drop support for the PS4 with 110+ million owners. But, part of me would like to fully move on to the future.
Outside of Rachet, it'll probably be a while before we see a fully exclusive PS5 game. Isn't Forespoken a timed exclusive? How it's looking, it might be late 2022 before we start seeing the games that fully utilize the power of the console.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
The likelihood of console shortages running into 2022 I would imagine forced studios and Sony to re-evaluate PS5 exclusivity and the shift was made to have these titles on PS4 as well as PS5. GT7 seems to speak to this as I believe just a few months back it was announced as a PS5 exclusive.Currently Playing:

Re: PlayStation 5
It's not surprising to me. GT should still be supporting PSVR for the PS4 as well as PSVR2 for PS5.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I don’t know why it’s a big deal they are on both gens. The new horizon game looked pretty next gen to me and it’s part of the cross gen games.

Re: PlayStation 5
I'm not surprised the cross gen period will extend out longer. It's just not about console scarcity. It's not like the huge difference between the PS3 and the PS2 & Ps4 architecture. The PS4 and PS5 has same architectures so it's a lot easier to scale games than what it once was previous generations. So the cross gen period.will likely last until year 3.
The main differences with the PS5 versions will be graphical, dual sense capabilities, and faster loadingAttached FilesLast edited by illwill10; 06-03-2021, 03:07 PM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
1. Has good has a game like Horizon looks if it was built from the ground up on ps5 it would likely look even better. So I do think this cross gen thing is going to hold back things some
2. You buy consoles for games you cant play on other consoles and with there being less games that are ps5 only it kind of makes it more pointless to get a ps5 right now. Right now its sounding like returnal and ratchet and clank are like the only big ps5 only games threw 2022.
3. Kind of goes with 2 but the marketing I would say was basically a lie or at least very miss leading because when the ps5 was shown last June the way they showed and talked about things they made it seem like Horizon, GT7, GOW, Spiderman miles Morales where going to all be ps5 only and it turns out all 4 of those are not. Heck god fall was said to be ps5 and pc and now it sounds like its going to be ps4 to.
I am a little annoyed my self because I do think it holds things back some and its hard to look at a console has something you need if you can play the games on the older system. Like I have a hard time saying a game is a system seller if its on the holder system to. But at the same time I would say its not like pointless to get a ps5 because Ratchet and clank rift apart is going to be ps5 only and Horizon is clearly going to look a lot better on ps5 then on ps4. Also ps5 controller so far I have only been blown away with astro bots but maybe some of those other games like Horizon and GOW etc will use the controller well and after playing astro bots the ps5 controllers features are a game changer.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I'm guessing any game that started development in the past year or two is going to have the same decision to make and with the lack of PS5 availability they would be losing a lot of sales by not making the game cross gen.
When Sony dropped the whole "we believe in generations" thing which I think is being blown out of proportion they failed to think about the actual development process and how long it takes to make quality games. I don't know if you can really make people happy though. They got ridiculed for that statement because xbox was making games cross gen and then when they went back on it they got ridiculed. I don't think they really had a choice considering how hard it is to get a PS5.
My guess is that even after games move exclusively to PS5 you'll still have to make a decision between a performance and graphics mode with a lot of games.
The game does look amazing though. People on social media did their thing and cried about the frames like there wasn't going to be a 60HZ mode.. big waste of energy as usual.
I think a lot of people are really undervaluing the significance of playing games at 60FPS when they act like there's no reason to buy the console if you can play it on PS4. There's a reason.. it just depends on if it matters enough to you personally to pay the money for the console. Everyone values or doesn't value something different with their games.
The load time improvement alone is almost enough for me. If you have played a game like Ghost of Tsushima on the PS4 and 5 it's pretty obvious what the difference could be for other cross gen games. With the pandemic winding down slowly it would be really cool if Sony did mostly in-store purchases to give people the best chance of getting a PS5 when they become available again. I hate that it's probably going to be another rat race refreshing the browser trying to check out on WM, Best Buy, Target, etc.Last edited by AUChase; 06-04-2021, 09:31 AM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
Sony receiving negative feedback for the "we believe in generations" is more than deserved because they blatantly lied about it. Horizon has been in development for years on PS4 and is the lead platform so Sony knew all along that they were doing cross-gen for their bigger titles yet decided to bullcrap everyone until last September with a blog post of all things.
They deserve all the criticism thrown at them. Outside of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, there's no true reason to own a PS5 because every other game I want to play will be available on PS4 and sure, the PS5 version will be better but the game itself will basically be identical.
Sony should have said that their games would be cross-gen for a few years but with a few exceptions at last June's State of Play. Instead, they just want to keep bsing everyone for no apparent reason. Adding a 2021 release year to God of War Ragnarok which was never happening and even 2022 is 50/50 at best just made things worse.
If Sony would be more transparent and honest, they would be fine because it would be accepted but lying about certain things constantly doesn't exactly inspire confidence.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I see that Best Buy is selling the new graphic card in store only to cut out the bots and allow actual people a chance to buy the product. Best Buy as well as Walmart, Target and the other retailers should do the same with the consoles. Let Sony and Microsoft sell online.
