I personally use rest mode just to insure my games are updated before I get on to play. I do not use it to pick up where I left off because I almost never go back into the same game I was playing when I get back on.

That is how i finally got one. Make sure you have the right email on PSN and check your inbox for any playstation direct invites. Register for an invite and they will give you a date and time window to log on to their site, you place your order and they deliver it to you in 1-2 days (express shipping is free with PS plus).

With the exception of 2K (which wouldn’t really bring me right back in from rest mode anyways), everything fires up so quickly that I don’t feel the need to have rest mode outside of the ability to download updates/games. Certainly not worth the risk of bricking the console if that’s still a thing.

Yet shockingly, thru a pandemic and from the results of 9-months that seems to show the gap is widening from its predecessor, I find the following updates fascinating.

I hope to live long enough to see this generation come to real, and gladly devote a holodeck room for my home...

Researchers at Brigham Young University in Utah made something they’re calling an Optical Trap Display (OTD). The device traps a tiny opaque particle in mid-air using an invisible laser beam, then moves the beam around a preset path in free space. At the same time, it illuminates the particle with red, green, or blue lights. When the particle moves fast enough, it creates a solid holographic image in the air. Move it even faster, and you can create the illusion of movement.

Yup, the backpedal on 'we believe in generations' reinforcing the perception that they aren't in very many consumers hands is a bit overblown, a year in they're doing exceptionally well.

That's really neat. I'd settle for some form of Illumiroom in the meantime:

I think (want?) the next big revolution in gaming will be AR. More accessible than VR once the tech can be reliably and cheaply commoditized.

                      Concept stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbpqwUUfMAQ
                      Minecraft vaporware that's meh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpGeIzYSAnU

Carolina Panthers have an AR thing before their games now apparently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XhgfnwVTts

If the AR efforts could dovetail / support VR projects as well, that'd be ideal. VR just has a certain ceiling that I think AR could shatter.

Happy 1 year! Today/Tommorw makes a year sense PS5 launch and sense I got it. Got 8 physical games so far in Ratchet and clank rift apart, sackbay a big adventure, marvel spiderman miles Morales, immortals fenyx rising, scarlet nexus, the pathless,Riders republic, watch dogs legion. and also have the following digital games kena bridge of sports, Nba 2k22, Fist forged in the shadow torch. Also upgrade the following games to PS5 versions Tony hawk, Ghost of tushima, crash bandicoot 4. Want to get the following games that are already out. Nickelodeon all-star brawl, hot wheels unleashed, super monkey balls. Can't wait for Horizon forbidden west in feb. Pretty good fist year for a new consoles even with all the delays caused by COVID. Need to get a new SSD has I only have like 40 GB left of space. Hoping I can find a 2 TB SSD around black Friday for like $250 or so cheapest I have seen is like 320. I also replayed the last guardian a game I call a emotional master peace but a game that didn't run that well on PS4 runs way way better on PS5. Nice to be able to play games in 4k now sense I only had regular PS4 and never had the pro. The load times and basically not having them is a big thing on PS5. Favorite game so far ratchet and clank rift apart has I have always been a big ratchet fan. Most over looked PS5 game I would say so far is the pathless as it's a very different type of game and pretty impressive game from a indi developer. Looking forward to 2022 and what is a crazy loaded year of games as so many 2021 games became 2022 games thinks to delays.

Looks like $40 might be the cheapest this year for PS Plus 12 month membership. Currently $41 on CDKeys and will be $40 on Walmart closer to Black Friday. I do regret I didn't get multiples ones last year when it was $30. If they were ever to bundle PS Plus and PSNow, I would be interested in that. I feel that's a wasted opportunity.
