Re: PlayStation 5

There is a new IP in the works for 2025 that will feature a new secret world in parallel with the Destiny franchise. I also questioned this cost but they're net worth is reported at $2b with over 700 employees

In that same article, Bungie mentions investing into film and TV too.

Bungie is also planning to expand the Destiny IP into additional media, with Mark Noseworthy (Vice President, Destiny Universe) and Luke Smith (Executive Creative Director, Destiny Universe) appointed to oversee this while Justin Truman (General Manager, Destiny 2) takes over the development leadership of the game.

Another sign of the expansion in TV and films is the addition to the Board of Directors of finance and strategy executive Trace Harris and Pamela Kaufman (President of Global Consumer Products for ViacomCBS). CEO Pete Parsons said:

We're grateful and humbled that our independent success allows us to invest in our talented people and headquarters this year and are delighted to welcome Trace Harris and Pamela Kaufman to the Board of Directors. The past several years have been a time of tremendous growth and opportunity for Bungie. We are home to some of the brightest and best talent in the industry. and we look forward to expanding upon both our talent pool this year and increasing the resources to support them. Trace and Pamela also bring incredible media and entertainment experience, and we're looking forward to taking advantage of their proven acumen as we continue to build the future of our company.

I am confused why buy them if they are going to stay multiplatform? Is it just so Microsoft wouldn't buy them?

Think it's semantics, you can be multi-platform without being on a Microsoft game console.

        @aegies
for the core gaming audience players and writers out there, an observation: "multiplatform" usually means more than one console. "multiple platforms" means PC, a console, and increasingly, mobile. there's overlap but they really don't usually mean the same thing.

There’s still revenue potential there, regardless of console exclusivity.

Sony’s large entertainment arm will probably bring Destiny to TV, film and streaming so that will add some value.

They made this underrated gem for Rockstar

Crazy seeing the Rockstar and Bungie logo right next to each other. What could have been.

This game was under development when Microsoft bought them out Unfortunately Take Two owns the rights.

Myth was pretty good. Probably my favorite pre-Halo game of theirs. Hard to tell if they own this or Oni IP though, between the Activision deal and any publisher deals at the time, IP ownership could be elsewhere or split between other parties. Either way probably not getting revivals of these games anyway.

                  Let the speculations begin.................

Sony Set To Acquire More Studios After Bungie

Head of Gamesindustry.biz Christopher Dring shared in a tweet that PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan claims fans should be expecting further acquisitions from the gaming giant. He stopped short of sharing any further information on which publishers Sony could be looking at acquiring, however, but it's safe to say there are plenty of options available.

I own both the PS5 and XBSX so I'm good with whatever these companies do. That being said, I hope Microsofts aggressiveness forces Sony to give some of their dormant IPs like The Order and Days Gone another look. Even if they have to rework them somewhat, theres quality there.

While they own the The Order IP, I believe Facebook now owns the developer who developed The Order. So Sony would need someone else to develop it.

I do wonder if Konami would get bought. Konami has dormant IPs Sony is associated with. So it would make sense if Sony purchased Konami. That's not if Tencent doesn't already own them

Ahh, thanks. I was reading an IGN opinion about how the Console Wars are now Content Wars, and I agree. In the past, I understand games like Days Gone and The Order apparently didnt sell well enough for Sony to continue. It felt like Sony wanted everything to be as critically and commercially successful as Last of Us or God of War. I get it, I leaned more towards Playstation recently simply for their first party single player games. I hope that because of the volume of Microsoft library now, and in the future, that Sony it forces Sony to revisit some of their lesser titles to bolster their catalog.

Bummer but I was also expecting it with the game because WB has several other games out this year and I am sure WB wants to space things out some.

I thought it was kind of odd to have two Batman titles release in the same year. Of the two though, I am looking more forward to Gotham Knights than Suicide Squad. I'm still not sure what what Sucide Squad is supposed to be.

I have the same feeling. I'm more looking forward to Gotham Knights than Suicide Squad anyway. But, I'm not surprised about the delay. Actually before DC Fandome, I don't know why I thought it was a 2023-24 release especially since at the initial reveal it was a next gen exclusive.

But, I wouldn't mind seeing them do something with Return to Arkham. Where I'm not really suggesting a remaster of a remaster, but maybe just a next gen patch. Where you see a 60 FPS and loading speed update. It would be awesome to play the Batman combat system in 60 fps. Im more interested Arkham City than AA or AK. I played AA and AK enough, where I'm good on those games. But, Arkham City was my personal favorite and wouldn't mind a full remaster of that one .
