Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
I really have no idea, I just don't see a 10 year old TV having the same type of HD circuits that the current generation of TV's have. Maybe that TV just upconverts pictures by using a fine tuing system or something, I really don't know.Originally posted by Bbucsfan

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
that tv does do 1080i. I would go over to www.avsforums.com and ask there. Pretty sure someone there has the same TV.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Quick question. Sorry if it has been answered already.
If I buy an HD Ready TV, will the xbox 360 produce true HD or would I need a HD setup box?
Is a setup box only for TV stations, or does it able to dvd players, video game consoles, etc.
Thanks in advance.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
A set top box, or receiver, only concerns the broadcast side of things, not dvd's, game consoles or anything else. An STB is either going to be just one for receiving OTA channels from an antenna source, or a receiver provided by cable or satellite company.
Basically, all HD ready means is that it can display an HD signal, but it still needs a source. In the 360's case, the source would be the system itself. You won't need anything else. Just hook it up via HDMI or component and you will be good to go.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
ok hdtv question. im looking to get a hdtv for my next gen system, so ive started shopping around.
i found this one on bestbuy.com for $999 and free shipping
now i see where it says it broadcast images in 1080i, but it never talks about 720 anywhere. i have heard xbox 360 will show games in 720. does having 1080 automatcially mean it supports 720?
thanksComment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
No, not at all. In fact, most TV's that display in 1080i do NOT also display in 720p. There are very few brands out there that will do both. On top of that, some will upconvert a 720p signal up to 1080i and some do not even do that, making it 1080i or nothing (well, 480p, which is still good, but nowhere near HD).
In the case of the tv you are looking at, it looks like anything not in native 1080i will be upconverted to it. However, it will not display a native 720p. So basically, everything is going to depend on how good the upconversion is on that tv. It may look decent, but it can also look lousy. In any case, it isnt going to be as good as something in its native resolution.
The XBox 360 will not just be 720p, though, so don't worry too much. I know it will support 1080i as well, but I am not sure if all games are going to be required to have both.Comment

so in your opinion, is that a good buy if im getting it basically for gaming, or do i need to look for a 720 tv?Comment

Good price, nice looking set. I'm a CRT fan, but if you have a nice size room, a RPT will work nice. 46" is a hefty size.Originally posted by dagger55thanks for the info.

I only have experience with a Samsung DLP, but I would think that you can't go wrong with any of those 3 brands.Originally posted by dagger55ive mainly been looking at sony and samsung. how does toshiba stack up quality wise to those two?
I found out quickly that it's tough reading about these sets on the internet because you have fanboys of certain brands (just like we have fanboys for consoles and fanboys of certain game publishers etc....). You gotta weigh that when you read about this stuff. Some people just want to feel better about there purchase so they cut down every other manufacturer.Comment

Toshiba is a very good brand. No doubt. I own both Sony and Samsung and love both sets and companies for HDTV. But I've seen excellent Toshiba's and Hitachi makes a killer HDTV as well.Comment
