    Re: 720 p mode

Guys..I have gotten some very good info from this thread. Thank you.....but I do have a question that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I bought a nice 23" HDTV monitor for my PC. It has one each ...PC, component, composite and S-Video connection. I originally had my PC and XBox hooked up to it....the XBox being on the component hookup. RCN(my cable supplier) recently hooked up a High Def box for me...and had to use the component jacks, leaving me with having to switch the wires if I want to use the XBox. I also want to hookup my PS2 with a High Def hookup(is this possible?)...so I would like to know if anyone knows of some sort of adapter or box that will allow for multiple component sources and has one output to plug into my monitor so that I can easily switch between units? Thanks.
Also, what do I need to hookup my PS2 to play in HD? Is it a special AV/Pack like the XBox? Thanks

Yeah Standard definition looks terrible on tv's like such. Satellite usually looks much better than cable, and HD pictures are clear and incredible. The colors are pretty lush depending on what you're watching, but DLP's are great looking tv's though.

I don't think PS2 supports HD period. As far as a multiple component switch device, you should check Best Buy. They may have exactly what you are looking for.

ehhh.... watch out now KDRE.... the ps2 does support HD, just not the type of HD that you and i would like. it supports the very basic in HD, which is 480p. although most games don't support it, it does do it. as for hooking up multiple things via component, you can either get a good video switcher with component inputs and outpurts. or you can get a good receiver that has about 2 or 3 component inputs. either way you can't lose

Hey KDRE, does Voom have ESPN at all? I know you said it doesn't have HD, but is it one of the regular satellite channels? And do you have any info of when (or if) it will be added to Voom's lineup?

I'm looking at either Voom or DirectTV when I move in a month, and I'm leaning towards Voom based on the sheer number of HD channels (and the $39/month special right now)...but I love my ESPN. Any advice?

One more thing, how much would an extra box be for Voom, if you know. Thanks for the info (I have a 32" HD Wega right now, planning on upgrading to a 65" Sony Widescreen by the end of the fiscal year).

                              Thanks for clarifying birdog!!

Johhny, Voom doesn't have ESPN yet. They are still working on it, but they definitely have it in the works right now. They already have Disney, who owns ESPN, so it should be very soon. Ask one of the CSR's about it. Actually call them, and just tell them you want information about the system.

For the moment, what would you like, D* with a bunch of SD channels and a few HD channels like ESPN (which is mostly stretched SD) HDNET/HDNET Movies, and the other couple they have or would you like Voom with more HD channels at the moment, and quite a few SD channels also? Ask yourself, and also tell me what SD channels do you watch the most? From what I've heard, HDNET, and VOOM shows about all of the same stuff. I haven't watched HDNET, but that seems to be the case.

The extra Voom box would be $199.00 if you buy it, or $9.50 to rent it, plus $5.00 for the extra box mirror fee. The 0 down deal ends at the end of this month, but I have no idea what they'll afterward. They may extend it if it has brought them enough customers in.

If you want ESPN now, get D*, but you'll be in a contract. With Voom there is no contract. If you want to try it out, it's risk free really, and you can cancel anytime you want to.
