This is my first High Def television, so what is going to make this thing sing? I've got some generic component cables for the DVD player and some pretty good ones for the PS2. Now here's the catch. I'm going to work for Comcast on the 22nd (starting my new job there), and they hook you up with everything from premium cable to the HD DVR and cables. Should I take that and smile or use the gift card for some monster cables or something else that'll maximize the new TV? Personally, I'd rather buy a nice piece of furniture for my audio/components, but I'm open to suggestions being new to HD.

I'd buy the furniture for your audio/compoents myself. Or get some furniture and a nicer set of component cables (not the monster cables). You can find some nice and reasonable component cables at Radio Shack. YOu might have enough for those and the furnitre.

I have had monster cable ones before and they are not worth the extra money in my opinion.

Thanks Heel, I've heard by many that the cost/benefit for monster cables just isn't worth it as well. Figured I'd ask with money to waste.

          *EDIT*
The warranty is still 2 years! Ignore my paranoia from past experiences and the bad information the guy at CC gave me. He must have had a long day.

              i agree...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Haha, hoping to hear from you on this topic.

I'll be calling Comcast tomorrow to get my box and cables so I can see this thing in action. Just watched Bad Boys 2 on my progressive scan and couldn't contain myself, so I'm not sure if I can really deal with the Sox game in HD...update coming.

EG, do you experience ever so slight geometry problems when using the TV with PS2? It happened with my last CRT flat screen and it really doesn't bother me at all, just thought I'd ask. Mainly it's the margins being slightly off line on the sides and in the corners. Doesn't happen while watching TV or movies, so again, just for curiosity.

Once you watch HD Baseball you don't ever want to go back to analog. I know I can't.

Too bad UPN doesn't show the Sox games in HD (or maybe they do but my service provider doesn't have an HD feed for the channel).

They show them in HD here, but UPN only has the friday night games.

Yes, and because it's a tube, there's not real way to correct it. Mine's extremely slight in the upper right and left corners. I mean, it's so minute, that I noticed it but even pointing it out, my wife didn't. If it's there for PS2, trust me, it's there for DVD's, XBox, or any other inputs you may going in. You just don't notice it on the others.

You'll never want to watch another TV again, I know I don't. Like I've said numerous times, a friend of mine has a plasma set and drools over my TV. Wait till you see sports in HD, football especially. You won't even want to go to sports bars to view the game, your living room is the new sports bar!

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread

I've got Comcast coming Wednesday afternoon to install the HD DVR box for the new tv. Here's a setup question in the meantime:

I'm currently using both component hookups, 1 for my PS2 and 1 for my DVD home theater system. Will I need to free up one of these to enable High Def, or will an HDMI cable be able to be used and keep my setup intact? I'm not sure what the difference is or if the Comcast boxes have an HDMI output.

While I'm at it, can I split or get a switch so that I can still use my fiber optic cable for the PS2 and get another one to the cable box? There's only one slot for it coming out of my DVD player (which acts as the receiver in the home theater system). Thanks as always.

I can help you on the cable box as I have a Comcast DVR. I have it running out DVI, into a DVI to HDMI converter cable which then runs HDMI into my TV. The cable was 29.99 at Bestbuy, but I'm sure you can get it cheaper online.

For those of you with a Samsung DLP ( I read about a couple of you)

                              I have a couple questions...

Do your video games (xbox preferably) lag in anyway while playing ?

And did you guys buy the Xbox High Definition Pack and was it worth it/show a very big difference or did it make games look worse due to lack of TRUE High Defintion cuz most games seem to be 480p ?

SikWitIt - Video game lag - none. I play mostly sports games and I don't see any lag at all (MVP 2005, ESPN Baseball, NCAA, Madden, Tiger Woods....).

I also have an Xbox with the HD pack. I never saw how games looked without the HD pack so I'm not sure if I can really answer that (when I got my DLP, I got the HD pack for my Xbox the same day). None of the games look bad IMO. MVP which is 720p looked amazing though.
