What TV's would ya'll recommned for the Xbox 360? I have an old 27" I got for free somehow and I use an RF adapter for it. I was thinking maybe like a TV in the 30s" rage, HDTV or HDTV ready (whats the difference?), and this would probably be a TV I'd have for at least 5 years.

I also like watching things in widescreen, if that matters anyway.

            Price range - 500-
Viewing Distance - I'd say 3-6 feet away.

That one is just under $500. it is HD Ready. What that means is if you want to watch television in HD you will need a convertor box. Cable companies usually give them to you for $5 per month added to your bill

But, you will be able to play your XBOX 360 games in High Definition.

                Thanks Heelfan.

                Another quick question or two.

Is there a quality difference between flat panel and flat-screen?

And also are prices steadily going down on HD-TVs or are they staying steady?

Flat panel is a LCD or plasma display.. Flat screen is a CRT..

HDTV CRTS are already dropping quicky.
LCDS will drop by 25% next yr.
Plasmas about 25% this fall or early next yr..

This is caused by No name brands introducing quality flat panels at a much cheaper price along with the glass & manufacuring of the parts getting cheaper..

I would discourage you from getting the Advent.. Picture quality isn't too great.. I would recommend the Insignia 26inch HDTV widescreen for the same or lower price..(not just saying that cause I work there) I work at Best Buy & see these TV's all the time. The insignia is a llevel above the advent, & is comparable to the name brand CRTS IMO.. Insignia is owned by BB.. So they can sell these HDTV's uber cheap..

3-6 FT away..(6-8FT 30inches) I'd recommend a 26inch HDTV.. 500.00.. Theres a HDTV 30inch Sanyo at Walmart for 500.00 or 550.00.. It's been getting great buyer reviews from the AVS forums.. If a 30inch HDTV is a requirment for you I'd get that..

The purpose of this thread to inform potential buyers of the good and bad as well as for current owners to discuss problems and...

HD Ready & HD monitor means no Built in HD tuner.. You need to buy an external tuner to view HD broadcast.. They cost between 150-300 bucks.. Ofcourse you can upgrade to HD cable & get a free box.. I doubt the TV's you listed support 720p res.. But I read that the Xbox 360 will scale games to 1080i (540p) res.. Not sure if its true or not.. Since fox & ABC support 720p res you wouldn't be able to watch HD broadcast on those networks..Check the specs before buying..

Wowzer.. I was wrong.. Just read the specs.. Has built in HD tuner..Usually cheap HDTV's don't have a built in HD tuner. & Supports HDMI which is better then DVI.. Has picture in picture too.. After reading the specs I'd highly reccomend this TV for your price point.. & Yes, it will display HD gaming on the 360..

Ha, I just found it too.

In order to get Hi-Def channels, like lets say the four big networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, & FOX), I'd have to have some type of hi-def cable or satiellite correct, picking them up on antennae wouldn't work right?
