ok, this is how i've got it. i've got the digital optical cable, connected to the hd adaptor and to the stereo. when i go into the xbox startup, it give me an option for dolby surround and digital audio. i'll put in nfl2k5 and it says 5.1. but when i disconnect the cable from both ends, the startup still gives me the option fot s.s. and d.a. and the game STILL says it's in digital audio and surround sound without the d.a. cable and the stereo off. is it possible my tv is giving it the 5.1 surround with only 2 speakers?...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
I have a question for all you hd gurus. I finally got a hd set (sony kdp57ws550) which as you know is a projection set. I do a fair amount of gaming also, but this whole burn in issue is starting to worry me a bit.
I am renting to own, seeing as how I don't have that kind of money to plop down all at once, and the set was previously loaned out prior to me obtaining it.
The picture is awesome and I'm completely happy with it except having to worry about burn in.
I mostly play sports games, but I feel that I am now limited as to the other types of games I can play. I like to play gr,the Halo's ,and the occasional racing game, but with the fear of burn in,and the use of the hud's on these games I now find myself avoiding these titles.
I've done extensive research and found that adjusting the contrast and brightness decreases the chances of burn in,I still am not completely sold. I've also read that brand new crt's need roughly 100 hours of break in...but seeing as my set has more than 100 hours does this mean I shouldn't be as worried?
Also, with games that keep the hud's on the screen all the time... Gr,Halo,Gta, just to name a few......what is a recommended playing time?
I mean.....does burn in occur after 3-5 hours, on these types of games?
Any insight or information is GREATLY appreciatedPeople are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Wondering if someone can help me.
Here is the current setup. Outside coaxial line going into my DVR. DVR connect to my tv via component cables. I also have the audio split from the DVR going to a receiver.
I'm trying connect the DVR to my tv via HDMI/DVI. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable from Radio Shack and hooked it up. The problem I'm having is that the video isn't coming thru continuously. I get sporadic glipses of the picture. Has anyone else seen this before? Did I hook it up incorrectly? Is the cable bad? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks for any help you can provide.Comment

If you mix it up and play different games and don't spend 10 hours every other day on one game then you should be OK. If you think about it almost every channel you watch on TV has a ticker or icon somewhere on the screen. So playing Halo for several hours isn't any different than watching football or CNN as they all have static images somewhere on the screen. Just try to avoid watching standard cable with black bars on the side too often. Stretch out the image to cover the entire screen whenever possible(it's not really noticeable). As long as you're not watching any one channel or game 24\7 then burn in is a non-issue. With any video game you usually get bored with it after a few weeks so you probably won't be playing Halo for 2 years straight.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Alright so my 42 inch Samsung DLP made its way to my house about 3 hours ago, I hooked up my digital cable box(non HDTV) and my progressive scan dvd and my xbox.
Im having problems hooking up my home entertainment theatre to my cable box though, but after looking in the manual for my home entertainment system it looks like i need a digital optical cable. Which brands are good for a digital optical cable ?
Also anyone with a samsung dlp what are the settings you use for contrast, brightness, color and sharpness ? I dont kno how i should set these, and because im still using analog signal I want to maximize my pictureComment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Originally posted by ExtremeGamerMy TV supports DD5.1, has an optical cable out. I have played Fox for instance with OTA and got 5.1 output.
My understanding (and it very well might be faulty) was that for true 5.1, you'd need 5 speakers and a sub. Obviously a TV doesn't have that so does it do some sort of conversion to sound like DD5.1?
I just run an optical cable from my cable box to my receiver (same with Xbox and use a digital coax from my DVD player to receiver).Comment
