5.1 will play through 2 speakers, but it isn't really 5.1 unless you have 5 speakers (2 fronts, 2 rears and a sub).

I have my optical cable going from my Satellite receiver to my Surround sound reciever for mine.

I should've realized that when you mentioned you had an optical cable out.

I really need to finish this Exchange Server Migration at work. I can't think straight anymore because all these mailbox moves have to be done after hours and are cutting into my sleep!

Do you guys have any opinions on Toshiba TV's ? I was all set on the Samsung but my wife likes the Toshiba 62". She thinks the PQ is better.
I'm concerned with reliability. I think the Toshiba looked better because of the lighting in the store, it was a little darker in Best Buy than Circuit City.
I didn't want to get into that with her LOL...

Let me know what you think.
        Thanks

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread

Hey guys. New to this topic and I've been spending the last hour or so going through as many posts as I can.

I just recently received a HD receiver for a gift (Bell Express Vu) and have it all setup. I have a Zentith 36" flat screen glass tube HDTV. (I've actually read that glass tubes have better clarity for HD at this point).
Anyway, I haven't had the opportunity to watch any programs in HD since I just activated the receiver this morning from work.
It's quite a bit of money to have this box and I'm just hoping it's worth it. I've heard some people say it's like watching TV for the first time and others say it's not that much of an improvement.

I'm a big hockey nut and I've heard some fans (and non fans) say that it's almost like being in the arena.

For those that have HD TV can you comment on it looks? Are you still blown away by the clarity?

P.S. So far I have the movie network, TSN, Sportsnet, NBC, ABC, CBS, CBC and a few other channels available to me in HD.

            Thanks!

"$", i'll tell you this, 1 year ago (when the NHL played last) i walked into CC with the wifey and i just so happened to walk over to the tv's to what they had. a saw this hockey game on one of the tv's from about 1 yards away. not thinking anything, i walked up closer to see who was playing and then to look at the other models. as i got closer, i noticed there was something unusual about this game,....it was clear as hell! i got 7 feet infront on the screen and did not move for about 10min. the sales person finally comes over and says "Nice, huh?". that's when he "popped my cherry" to hdtv.

to answer your question, hell yes! hockey games look absolutely amazing in hd. i believe of all the broadcast sports, it looks the best. and this is coming from a die-hard football fan. i'm actually looking forward to this hockey seasom just so i can watch the games in hd...

                Hahahahaha! Nice!

But thanks for the review. I'm not the biggest football fan but I'm looking forward to watching some in HD along with hockey.
Thanks for the reply. It's appreciated.

You will find yourself watching pretty much anything when it's HD. And hockey will be sweet!

i second that. the picture quality is that good. sometimes i think it's (hd) better than my own eye sight.

like the other day, i watched a 30min documentary on Tapirs. what the hell is a Tapir?!...

Once you get HD and a big screen you can't go back. 720p is already amazing I shudder to think how good the next step is going to be.

Discovery HD is one channel I don't get in HD that many others do. Kind of sucks because there are some shows on there that I know would look excellent. I think I'm going to call my cable provider and ask for it. Can't hurt I guess?

Here is the current setup. Outside coaxial line going into my DVR. DVR connect to my tv via component cables. I also have the audio split from the DVR going to a receiver and my TV.

I'm trying connect the DVR to my tv via HDMI/DVI. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable from Radio Shack and hooked it up. The problem I'm having is that the video isn't coming thru continuously. I get sporadic glipses of the picture. Has anyone else seen this before? Did I hook it up incorrectly? Is the cable bad? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Since no one answered my question when I first posted it, I'd thought I'd bump it up to see if anyone knew anything about it now. Thanks again.

There are guys on here that know WAY more than I do, but in my experience with HDMI/DVI cables I've had some flaky things occur like that.

When I tried to use an HDMI/DVI cable from my DVD player to my TV, I also had issues with the picture not displaying properly. It seems the handshake between the two wasn't steady.

What I wound up doing was using the HDMI/DVI cable for my STB/HD-DVR and using a DVI/DVI for my DVD player.

If you can, maybe try a DVI/DVI cable? Maybe your DVR was like my DVD player in that it had trouble handling the HDMI/DVI handshake?

Thanks joeboo. I think what I'm going to do is return my HDMI/DVI cable and get a straight HDMI/HDMI cable and an adaptor. If that doesn't work, then I'm just gonna use it with my DVD player instead of the DVR.
