The top one (silver) is 50 dollars cheaper and the only difference I can find is that the silver one requires a set top box (no big deal since i'm getting a comcast box anyways). For you guys that know a lot about these things, is the black one worth the extra 50 bucks? Silver is $630 and black is like $688, both without tax, anybody help me out here?
Wow, those are very cheap! What's making them cost... basically... nothing?

Because I'm still trying to find a TV with, well, all of the specifications that I've seen so far.
      Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

I dont know, I just saw them at Wal mart and I thought I couldn't pass them up. I'm going to get the $638 silver one today I think and hopefully get the HD comcast box this week. As long as its got 1080, 2 component and hdmi, i'm set. This is for my bedroom, so 30" widescreen is all I need.

        Thanks for the help heelfan

From what I see, the Silver set doesn't support HDMI. The Black 1 does. Also the Silver 1 doesn't accept 720p as a resolution.(Not a biggie) I personally would get the set with the HDMI input. Simply becuase HDMI gives you a DIGITAL2DIGITAL Connection. Compared to Component which is ANALOG2DIGITAL...

Yeah... looks like I may need one myself.

But can somebody verify? Are these truly good screens?

Yeah it does, I got the silver one, but I found it at Sam's Club for $599, $40 bucks cheaper than at Walmart. Cost me $655 total with tax. Can't beat that, has 2 s-videos, component, hdmi, supports 480, 1080i. Halo 2 is lookin SWEET. Can't wait until i see the 1080 in action.

I do have another question. For those with the Comcast HD DVR box, can you hook it up to just the hdmi or does it have to take up the hdmi and component slots? The reason I ask is because they hooked it up at my parents house and they used both, although I dont see why its necessary. Any help? Thanks guys.

you should be able to use just the HDMI. Not sure why they used components too. Does the box have a digital video recorder built into it??? Maybe that has something to do with it.

I don't have Comcast, but I'm pretty sure I have the same HD DVR box (Motorola 6412).

There's no reason for the component hookups. I'm not sure why they did that.

I'm just running an HDMI to DVI cable from my box to my TV and a digital optical audio cable from my box to my receiver.

I got my DVR this morning and I asked the lady why they hooked it up that way. She said the only thing she could think of was it might have been for PIP purposes. But she wasn't sure.

One question, noticing the slightest jerking animation once in a while in my HD HBO, anyway I can fix that or what?

yeah, it very well could be for PIP. Make sure you are watching tv with the HDMI cable, and are using the components for the PIP. There should be some menu on your tv where you select what type of video source you are using. Make sure it is using the HDMI.

Is HBO the only channel that does that??? I would just double check to make sure the cables on the cable box and tv are on tight.

Hmmm.... That's a very good point and could be the reason.

I'm going to try that tonight and see if it works on my box/DVR.

It should. Can you watch one thing while recording another ??? If not, that should do the trick.

Yes I can watch one thing while recording another.

The odd thing is that with HDMI/DVI cable connected from my STB to my TV, the PIP option on my TV is greyed out. It's available with component and standard cable though.

I'm not sure the PIP for my STB is enabled? I know it's a button on the remote, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I press it.
