    Re: 720 p mode

    Thanks for clarifying birdog!!

Johhny, Voom doesn't have ESPN yet. They are still working on it, but they definitely have it in the works right now. They already have Disney, who owns ESPN, so it should be very soon. Ask one of the CSR's about it. Actually call them, and just tell them you want information about the system.

For the moment, what would you like, D* with a bunch of SD channels and a few HD channels like ESPN (which is mostly stretched SD) HDNET/HDNET Movies, and the other couple they have or would you like Voom with more HD channels at the moment, and quite a few SD channels also? Ask yourself, and also tell me what SD channels do you watch the most? From what I've heard, HDNET, and VOOM shows about all of the same stuff. I haven't watched HDNET, but that seems to be the case.

The extra Voom box would be $199.00 if you buy it, or $9.50 to rent it, plus $5.00 for the extra box mirror fee. The 0 down deal ends at the end of this month, but I have no idea what they'll afterward. They may extend it if it has brought them enough customers in.

If you want ESPN now, get D*, but you'll be in a contract. With Voom there is no contract. If you want to try it out, it's risk free really, and you can cancel anytime you want to.

      Re: 720 p mode

I'm leaning towards Voom. I usually watch Spike, all the sports channels, Comedy Central, Fox News, CNN, and that's about it for SD channels.

How long is the contract for DirectTV? I'm planning on stopping into a Sears later and finding out what info they can give me, or else I'll call.

Also, what's the mirror fee? I get that the rental fee would add $10 bucks to my bill each month, but will the mirror fee be there as well? Thanks again!

For the most part, you'd have the channels you watch the most except Fox News. I'm not sure what's up with that station, but the others are there.

Your D* contract would be for a year, so unless you decided to get both D* and Voom's cheapest packages because of Fox and ESPN then you'd either be in a contract for 1 year with D* or try Voom out and if you don't want it, you could cancel with no obligation.

Don't go to Sears for info. They don't know squat. Call Voom. I did like a week before I made a decision, and just asked all the questions I wanted to know. They politely answered and that was that.

The mirror fee for the extra box for transmission of the same channels to it. Just like D* or Dish Network, you get another box, you pay 5 bucks extra a month for it. Voom's choice is to either buy a box then you'll have no mirroring fee, or rent it for 9.50 a month, and the mirror fee for any extra boxes.

If I didn't explain this well to you then let me know, and I'll make it a bit more understandable.

I guess the only question I have is what HD channels does Voom offer? And by that I mean what regular (non-specialized) channels...exlude HD Monsters for example. Thanks for your help!

I'm looking at the Basic Voom package by the way, I don't have the money for the Va Va Voom with all the pay channels (HBO, Skinemax, etc).

and any of your locals that broadcast in HD like NBC ,CBS, ABC, etc.. (Which I get all of those)

You should've seen March Madness in HD, it was beautiful!

                        ESPN HD to come soon?
Those are all I can name off the head.

There isn't much more out there period to be honest with you. Those Voom exclusives, plus the HD movie channels make it the only service with more HD channels. I do believe you can seperately order movie packages (Showtime HD , Stars HD, etc)

                              Re: Grand Wega III 50\"

Well, after months of research I finally took the HD plunge. Yesterday a couple of delivery men dropped this thing off at my house.

I want to thank you guys for this great thread. I've learned a lot.

Last weekend I was surprised when my wife said we should take a look at TVs. I said ok, so we headed to 4 different stores. (Fry's, CC, Good Guys, Tweeter) My wife fell in love with the GWIII. I warned her about the problems that the TV had/has, but she didn't care. The best deal we could find was from Good Guys. The manager knocked off $300 off the regular price, so I was able to pick up the 50" for $2999. I figured it wasn't bad since the 42" sold for $2799. For anyone doing research for this TV, I have a March 2004 build.

The Cox cable guys will be making a stop at my house today. I'll be getting my HD package through them. (Don't worry KDRE I'll be watching VOOM very closely) Cox offers an HD DVR, which will also be hooked up today.

Last night I played a few DVDs Finding Nemo, Star Wars Ep II, and Elmo's World. (Hey, my daughter wanted to watch Elmo) I also put in most of my games to see what they would look like. Right now I'm in awe of MVP 04.

Regular cable came in okay on this TV. It wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad either. While watching sportscenter last night I had the normal view on, because I couldn't get into the Full, Zoom, Wide Zoom modes. Maybe they will grow on me.
