Alright guys, since you've guided me perfectly to the XBR960 in my first purchase, I come to you all again as we approach the holidays...where my sister and I will be getting the folks a nice flat panel for the living room. I'm reading up on LCD vs. Plasma so I can get a head start before we pull the trigger. Since burn out is not as big a problem as I thought and color fading and TV life is estimated to be pretty comparable to tubes, I'm now beginning to give plasmas some serious consideration.
Any suggestions on an amazing, can't miss television if I want to spend around $3,000 for a 37-42 incher? Important to note: working for the cable company, I get a great discount on Panasonic and Phillips (the ambilight models included), as well as a discount on a TV & extended warranty at Circuit City until mid November (and that's on all brands). So if there's a TV for $5,000 that's too good to pass on, let me know as I may be able to get it cheaper.
One quick question based on some preliminary browsing. I'm noticing that a lot of the good LCDs have a picture resolution of 1366 x 768 whereas plasmas are at 1024 x 768. Why is that, and which is better? I would think it'd be the opposite since plasmas are so highly regarded for home theater use.
