best buy is offering no interest till 2009 on tvs 999 and up im probably going to take advantage of that and get one this week. but i might wait till it gets closer to the super bowl, cause i have a feeling there will be bigger sales.

Im looking at the 32" to 37" range. dont need to go crazy on a 50" or 60" just yet. I think 32" would be the right size for me. I like the lcd's but i heard they arent the best for gaming. although the 360 hooked up to those samsungs on the demos look pretty nice and i dont see a problem with them

Ive narrowed it down to a few that im strongly considering

    samsung 32" lcd

    sharp aquos 32" lcd

    sont bravia 32" lcd

    westinghouse 32" lcd

i was looking at the sony bravia xbr's too. they are nice but i dont see the $1000 price difference between them. I dont know too much about hdtvs but for the money i want to make sure i get the best deal possible. any help or feedback from you guys would be appreciated, thanks.
If weight & size isn't a issue I would recommend a Sony CRT.. Better then any LCD on the market.. I have a Sony LCD, & am getting upset with the black levels at times..

I think for gaming the key is the Contrast Ratio (someone please correct me if I am wrong). The 1st Samsung on your list has a ratio of 3,000:1, while the 1st Sharp on your list has 800:1. The higher the first number, the better. That is why you see all the Xbox 360 kits running on the Samsung's.

I have no proof to back my statements up, but I do recall reading this on the internet. I am still confused as to which HDTV to buy. The only good thing is, the longer I wait, the cheaper they become .

Edit: Another thing to look out for is the response time. In this case, it is the lower the better. I couldn't find the response time on the Samsung, but I noticed that the Westinghouse has a response time of 8 ms. I believe that anything 12ms and lower is good.

I have the Sony KV-40xbr800. The display is 4x3. When I play my xbox 360 games, it obviously has black bars underneath the picture. Is there anyway to fix this?

No, HDTV is 16X9, your TV is 4:3, so for all HD sources, is going to be in "widescreen"

For those of you with Calibration DVDs - do you recommend that I get AVIA, or is Digital Video Essentials just as good? I want to make sure my Sharp LC-32D4U is calibrated before the Super Bowl.

my budget was 800 dollars... J&R was selling them for 699.99... with tax was about 756... there store is about 35 minutes from my house... i was going to pick it up cuz they said they had 1 left and they reserved it for me, had me get a reservation number and all that, then when i called em back, said it was a mistake and they don't have anymore.

I would settle for the HS420 but after seeing the super fine pitch tube in action... i NEED the XS955.

the xs955 has a better & higher resolution than the HS420 due to the professional super fine pitch tube it uses (not to say the HS420 is bad by any means... the xs955 and hs420 are hailed as 2 of the best 30" CRT's out there)

J&R doesn't even list the TV anymore, so I don't think you'll find any 30 inch xs' cheaper than the HS420 anywhere in stores or online.

So... in terms of better picture clarity, contrast, color, sharpness, motion... the whole deal... which is primarily better for baseball gaming and viewing? CRT's or LCD's?

Depth bulk is irrelevant in my case.

CRT is the best for all gaming..Higher contrast. true black levels. Accurate, rich colors..No worry of ghosting or laggging due to a poor response time.. Don't get caught up with the 720p is better then 1080i crap. I play the 360 on a 42inch Sony LCD (native resolution is 720p) & the picture looks sharper in 1080i, & it should. It's the higher resolution. I played action/sports games in 1080i & seen NO issues like artficats, smearing, like people 'claim' they see while playing action/sports games in 1080i..

Oh, and like I was also asking... how about for baseball viewing? The Giants broadcast their games in HD on Fox Sports Net.
