The "User Menu" is all the stuff you can view by hitting "Settings" or the like on your remote control. The "Service Menu" is a special combination of button presses on your remote that will allow you to change convergence, luminence levels, RGB levels, etc. Some people like to tinker around in the SM, others do not (and know that you can really screw up your TV that way). I have adjusted only one thing in my Sammy DLP SM, and it's a common tweak for the model I have.

I only mentioned the "break in" since a true professional calibrator will not adjust a set out of the box (well he'll take your money most likely, knowing that he'll have to come back again). I'm currently looking at an ISF calibration, but I have over 350 hours on my set. From all reviews it seems like it will be well worth it, and after investing nearly three grand on my set, I figure what's wrong with an additional three hundred.
Thanks. I've had some other people mention AVIA to me, so I'll probably pick up a copy of that sometime during the next couple of weeks. In any case, so far I'm loving the tv (and not seeing anything I'd call "motion blur" even though I'm not certain exactly what that is).

AVIA is good but I prefer DVE. DVE is a newer product, has more test patterns, and is 50% cheaper. To each his own though. True videophiles have both.

DVE isn't user friendly.. Only ppl who know what they are doing should use DVE. Not for noobs..

Thats good.. Cause if someone pointed it out to you (actually showed you), then you would look for it.. But it's inherent in all LCD displays..

The new DVE is VERY user friendly. A few pages back it was discussed that the older version wasn't user friendly. However, I would feel comfortable recommending the newer version to even the newest HDTV owner. It's that easy to understand and quite informative.

I find DVE very easy to use as well.

No offense, but if you haven't used it, you shouldn't give advice on it.

I have a samsung DLP HDTV but am waiting on my XBOX 360. Right now, I just have PS2. What picture settings should I be using. Madden just doesn't look right and NHL 2K6 seems just a little grainy?

It's going to look grainy. The best bet would be to set your PS2 to "16:9" and use component cables, which will give you the best picture quality. The reason for the "grainy" look is that the TV upconverts all incoming signals to it's native resolution of 720p (unless you have the xx68 models in which case the native is 1080p). The PS2 only outputs at 480i/p. The Xbox 360 will output everything at 720p, so even the old games should show some improvement (Halo 2 does for sure). Hopefully the PS3 will have a similar feature. The upconverting process is the primary cause of "lag" on the gaming consoles. The only solution to that would be to name the input where you are gaming to "GAME" in the menu (if it's available). Samsung states that by doing so you are using the gaming mode built-in, which is supposed to alleviate some of the lag. The only lag I experience is on the timing games like "Dance Dance Revolution". Hope this helps!

No truer an example of the exception, not the rule. Another note about the Sammy DLP's is that the PS2 has a major difficulty in dealing with overscan. I have to play my wide screen games with an inch of black on each side, since the PS2 can't fill the screen on 16:9. Others have had similar problems on other forums. Just an FYI.

                            360 however, looks fantastic!

You mean Digital Video Essentials: Professional Edition.. The 6 DVD set? That cost like 300.00.. I went to the DVE website & seen the above & the old one from 97 or 99.. Yes, I remember reading a review on the pro edition & in regards to calibration it is very similar to the older edition.. Sorry.. Next time I'll buy all the products before giving advice..
