Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread

I'm gonna be looking for an HDTV down the road, maybe around spring time. My brother just got a 32'' Sharp Aquos LCD TV for $1500. He says he really likes it. But because it's a flat panel TV there's no room to have HDTV built in, so he had to buy a HD reciever for another 200 bucks. I'm thinking this is the model I may be going with as well when I get mine. It has widescreen of course, and up to 720p and 1080i capability. $1500 seems like a pretty reasonable price, even though you still gotta buy the reciever. Anybody own this model or something similar? How do you like it? Was it worth the money in your opinion? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

The only thing I'm curious about, other than the quality of the set of course, is that it supports 540p. I've never seen that feature before...

There's the DVD player I was talking about (or close to it). Not sure how good it is though.

Thanks man, I appriciate it. My current stand alone DVD player is horrible, I might be making an investment in one of those.

Well mine is old enough that it really isn't worth unplugging my xbox to use. A two time hand-me-down

                    Guys I need help..........

I got just got an hdtv.

I only have 1 spot (video 4) i think to hook up my 360.

I'm going out now to get my hd terminal.

So how am i going to hook up my hd terminal to my tv whne the 360 is already taking the spot???

Or does an hd terminal hook up differently tahn the 360??? (like an hdmi cable or something??)

                    Thanks

What kind of connections does your TV have? what is the model number of the tv? you could also take a picture of the back of the tv.

I got the new sony bravia.

I have video's 1 through 6. But only video 4 has the "hd in". Which is being occupied by my 360. So now when I pick up my hd terminal, where can that go??

                        Video's 1,2,3,5 are only s-video connections.

and video 6 is hdmi. (I'm guessing for dvd players etc.)

Do you get what i;m saying??

I just had Comcast come by this morning and set it up and the folks are freaking out!! Enjoy...I look forward to your impressions if you can fit it in with all that HD viewing coming up.

How would widescreen movies and games look on this TV with the "16:9 enhanced mode?"
I would advise against buying a 4:3 aspect ratio set. Since all HD programming is in 16:9, you are going to be stuck with fairly large black bars on the top and bottom. That being said, the 16:9 "enhanced" mode on the set functions like my old Wega HD CRT. What that mode does is squeeze all the lines of resolution into the 16:9 aspect ratio, making for a cleaner picture. An improvement, but just know that on a 27" 4:3 set, the widescreen diagonal measurment is only going to be around 16". It would be much better to go for a 27" widescreen set.

For DVD's, all 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 movies will a 16:9 set, while 2.35:1 will have small bars on the top and bottom.

And Mintsa, you could always go the switch box route. If you have a CRT or Plasma, there won't be a lot of lag, and remember that the more you spend, the less signal loss there will be (meaning shy away from the very cheap plastic Pelican box available at most game stores). You could also check to see if your HD terminal (cablebox?) has an HDMI or DVI output. If so, you can buy a DVI-HDMI cable, and free up the component jack.

                                Sony TV and PS2 question

                                I own the following tv:

                                Sony WEGA 42" Widescreen Digital-Cable-Ready Rear-Projection LCD HDTV - Black Model: KDF-E42A10

This tv also has an HDMI input (but I have no idea what that is or used for)
                                I also have a ps2.
I only have the original cables that come with the ps2, but what I am wondering about is when I put in madden 06 the text (rosters etc.) is really hard to read.
I am wondering if this would improve with component cables, or an s-video cable?
I've changed my settings on my ps2 to the 16:9 viewing format, but it doesn't seem to help.
Basically I am wanting to take advantage of playing madden on this nice tv, but frankly it looks better on my 25' nonHDTV right now.
