    Re: King Kong

Decent movie. A few things really bothered me though.

1.) Staring. King Kong and Naomi Watts stared at each other for at least 83 minutes in this movie. If the staring was removed or at least cut down a little bit, it would have been an hour and a half.

2.) Adrian Brody's nose. If you watch how they filmed, the camera always came from the left side of Brody's face on close up shots, because that's the way that giant thing he calls a nose points. It was just really annoying, and I don't see why women go crazy over his Pterodactyl looking ***.

I was expecting a lot more out of this movie. I probably shouldn't have. The acting was average, the characters were average, and it had too many insiginificant scenes, making it longer than average.

    3/5 stars

      Re: King Kong

      Just got back from it.

It was ok, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

I didn't understand the point of showing the friendship between the black guy and the white kid. I figured at least one of them would play a significant role at some point in the film, but once they were able to knock out Kong on the island you never saw the white guy again. The black guys death wasn't even dramatic. They showed him for 4 seconds after he was killed.

They bug attack scene could've been way better. It was cool to see giant, semirealistic looking bugs attack people, but it was too hectic, and at the blink of an eye, all of the bugs seemed to disappear.

I thought the T-Rex fight scene was awesome, and I really liked the part where the giant lizard chased Naomi Watts under the log and you could see the ground rise as the lizard moved further into the log. Awesome looking.

Yeah there was a lot of that, wasn't there? The whole story of the Kong films is the bond/love between a woman and a giant ape. The staring contests in this one were done to emphasize that bond. Kind of bothered me some too but it's in there. I really liked the movie overall though. I thought Watts did an excellent job in her role and Andy Serkis was great as Kong. He had facial expressions down and everything. Amazing job.

I liked it, but I think that it could have been better, and shorter. For me there was no arguement with the length of LOTR, I actually prefer the EE versions which are 3 and a half, and 3 and 45 minutes, and like 4 hours and 10 mintues for the last one, but KONG did not need nor should have been as long as it was. With LOTR's it was needed for them to be long (Maybe the Potter movies should take a leaf out of Jacksons book) but Kong was overly long for the content that was there.

Okay, so tell me, fsufan and dagger, what exactly you were expecting? This is the 3rd remake of a film. We know what the story is about. Just wondering.

I still wanna see this bad boy, and probably will next week, but it sounds to me as far as this thread is concerened that its an average to sligthyl-above average movie, but fails to live up to its self-made hype. And that some people's reviews and arguements in here do seem a bit geared toward defending the movie for PJ's sake. Again, haven't seen it and still looking foward to it, that's just my impression. I actually am a HUGE PJ fan after LOTR.

I thought it was a lot of fun. Well, the latter 2/3 of the movie, the first 1/3 was ok, though a bit slow.

There's not much logic to the movie, but I enjoyed the movie a lot, regardless.

                        Re: King Kong

I flat out loved this movie. It was on par IMO opinion with Jackson's LOTR trilogy. If you were bored, then you don't have much of an attention span. Not saying that you couldn't be bored, but the first 45 minutes were pretty interesting to me, not tear-inducing. They set up the events later in the film very well.

First of all, the chemistry between the actors (mainly Watts and Kong) were fantastic. I personally liked Jack Black in his role. He played his part very well, and I don't quite understand the negativity about his casting now that the movie is out. Brody is the only one IMO that didn't quite fit in. I still enjoyed his part, but even his relationship with Watts seemed "forced". But that is honestly one of maybe two or three little things I disliked about this movie. The effects were AMAZING. My jaw was on the floor the entire Kong/T-Rex's fight. Kong just seemed so "real" in the environment to me, as did the rest of the creatures.

4.5/5 stars from me. I'd really like to hear from some of the posters who said "this movie was a letdown", or "this movie sucked" without giving reasons why they didn't care for it.

The story is terrible and very cheesy. The so called "incredible" special effects weren't that great and it was just way too long. I don't know why Jackson felt that people wanted to see a long sequence of just kong screaming and moving his lips and arms but that was completely unnecessary. I didn't think that this was going to be a great movie but it was just terrible in my opinion.
