I haven't seen the movie. I just read an article where the film's director Brian Singer (XMEN @ SPIDERMAN), said that this will be a much darker Lex Luthor, who's out for revenge because of his stay in prison at the hands of THE MAN OF STEEL. The article also said that Lex and Supe share no scenes until the "climactic showdown ".

          Singer was involved with Spiderman?

I like hearing the new Supes movie will be a little darker, at least Lex will be, so thats good. I don't think a Superman movie thats too dark would work though, since Superman is essentially a boy-scout at heart.

I think they could make Superman a little more multifaceted, without compromising his integrity. I wish the movie was rated PG 13 instead of PG, which screams, "Light On The Edginess!!" I want a much darker story than previous efforts.

              Re: new superman returns pictures

Jaybee the problem is Supes as a character has never been so complex as to make a truly dark story. The only way you can create a darker Superman story is if you change some of the very foundamentals of the character and the mythos sorrounding it.

There's sadly no real pschological (sp) edge to the character like you see with Batman.

The only way you're going to see a truly dark Superman on screen is if they do a film version of the DEATH OF SUPERMAN story-arc. That was actually one of the very first proposals. Kevin Smith even wrote out a full length script for it as well.

I certainly don't think this will be up-to-par with Batman: Begins, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm too young to know any of the older versions, and have never seen them, so this will be the only one I've seen.

Is it really only PG though?

                  Re: new superman returns pictures

If the Death of Superman story-arc is made into a trilogy, I would highly anticipate them, without a doubt.

The only thing I can see about Superman, in a pyscological aspect is maybe he suffers from some form of depression. He's an alien, almost an outcast. He's sent from his home planet to Earth, where is he entirely different from the human race. His people are all dead - he's the last one of his kind. He could feel isolated, depressed, etc. That may be a good story, but whatever. Not really too deep, but it would make Supes more identifiable with the audience IMO.

Good point.......The only way to do a dark Superman is if we were to see the DEATH and RETURN OF SUPERMAN.

I personally don't want to see a dark Superman movie, that's what Batman is. The Spider-man movies aren't dark and they are very good, I hope Superman is too.

It would have been cool if Tom Welling would have played Superman. This would help tie in with Smallville.

I don't like the costume, it looks like the Superman logo is made out of plastic. He doesn't look right in the costume either, big head syndrome.

I don't think he has a big head and I think the costume looks fine.

There are some new images at http://supermanhomepage.com/news.php of the movie.
Warner Bros. Pictures has provided the Superman Homepage with an exclusive still from "Superman Returns".

The photo (shown right) depicts young Clark Kent (Stephan Bender) floating in the Kent Farm barn.

LatinoReview.com, SuperHeroHype, IGN and BlueTights.net also received exclusive pictures today. There's a picture of Clark Kent walking with his luggage back to the Daily Planet after being away for a few years. There's one of Clark reading the Daily Planet newspaper in the Kent Farm barn, and another showing Jimmy Olsen (with his camera) at his desk in the Daily Planet. The fourth pic shows a framed photo of the Daily Planet with the headline: "Where Has He Gone?" It obviously refers to Superman's conspicuous absence from the Metropolis scene.
                                Looks good.
