Re: Brokeback Mountain
Majority of people? I dont think the majority of Americans thing Gays should be fined or jailed for sodomy. The majority of americans disagree with Gay marriage but not that.Originally posted by NovaStarWell actually there is no such thing as an "old law". Law is law, some laws are outdated yet still enforcable. I think the fact that a majority of the people still find this topic highly debatable make it a very current law that has been repealed by the SP. But I understand what you were saying.Comment

Whether assisted suicide is right. I dont consider that to be a controversial subject. Also its not as if the film tackled the issue. The guy pulled the plug and thats it.Originally posted by bkrich83What was the controversy in that movie? I never saw it.Comment

Re: Brokeback Mountain
Incest is illegal and frowned upon culturally because inbreeding can lead to some messed up genetics in the offspring. Pedophillia involves an adult and a minor. I don't understand why anybody would confuse these with homosexuality between 2 consenting adults. Since you're okay with 2 consenting adults having heterosexual sex, I guess you are okay with a 30 year old guy having sex with a 10 year old girl.Originally posted by NovaStarI think you are missing my point. If a son has sex with his mother and they are both adults is that ok with you? The nexus in all of my examples is sex, and what certain sexual acts mean to different people. Wether the law recognizes certain things as legal or not is a side issue. Also, the supreme court, as one of the posters informed me just did away with sodomy laws in 2003, that hardly is old and antiquated as you put it.
I meant they are old and antiquated since they were enacted a long time ago and should have been repealed a long time ago. I live in VA and up until 2003 I was breaking the law everytime my wife gave me a BJ.Comment

but, it's controversy is what will put it over the top when it comes to winning a crapload of awards. it already won the golden globe for best picture, and i guarantee you that it will win the oscar for best picture.Comment

Re: Brokeback Mountain
What about the son wanting to marry his mother? Again, what is socially acceptable is different from what is legal. "Consenting adult" is a legal standard ,but I am sure you would apply a social standard to the son/mother example.Originally posted by aholbert32Why cant you? I can accept Homosexuality (for other people) and think that pedophilia is wrong. Why? Because they are totally different things. One involves 2 consenting adults and 1 involves sex with a child. Big difference.Comment
