    Re: Brokeback Mountain

Wow 9 pages in one day, I've never heard of this movie.

After reading the first page it seems it's about a man cheating on his wife with another man? Ew... I don't wanna watch it.

Drop it? Well, then thanks for making my point. The very essence of the the thread is about open vs closed mindedness, but because your flawed logic was brought out of the closet (pun HIGHLY intended), you want to dismiss it or at least claim confusion. Convenient.

        Re: Brokeback Mountain

This thread amuses me... Now there are arguments about who is close-minded and who isn't because of one's viewpoint on the movie... In the end, does it really matter? Either you're gonna see the movie or not... That decision shouldn't determine whether or not you're "open-minded", "socially accepting", or whatever flavor-of-the-month term you want to use....

No, I really am confused. Lets do this. Give me what you feel are the definitions of close-minded and open-minded, then you can explain to me what it was you were tryna tell me. I did'nt get your mafia refrence ethier. Well I get it but what does it have to do in relation to "me" being closed minded? Cause I disagreed with his stance? Please explain more thoroughly. Obviously I was'nt the only one who did'nt understand what you were getting at.

I don't see how anyone can seriously believe that any guy who watches this movie is either gay or "suspect"...that's total idiocy IMO

I watched "Blow", does that mean I'm a cokehead, or thinking of being one?

The things you mentioned, however, are illegal. A more valid analogy would probably be something along the lines of a twenty-something having a relationship with someone fifty to sixty years older than themself. Something legal, yet also quite disturbing in some people's book.

Again, count me as one that rejects the premise or crux of the movie. I am not closed minded, I have explored the many arguments and discussions concerning the topic in this movie. I choose not to watch it, that doesn't mean I disagree your choice if you choose to.

Good post, I feel pretty much the same way.

And to re-iterate, I dont wanna see this movie. Like has been said, its not my cup of tea. Some ppl in this thead seem homophobic however and thats all that needs pointing out.

As for the grown man with a young girl flick, I saw a trailer for one about a week ago. These two met on a internet dating site and the girl turns out to be young but they still get together. Its sopposed to be a thriller movie however. I think the girl is sopposed to be a head case or something.

                          Re: Brokeback Mountain

Being open-minded does NOT mean that you have to be completely accepting and willing to honor, appreciate, etc. everything simply because something exists or someone engages in it. Someone mentioned a form of this a little earlier in the thread and said it well. You examine the matter, you consider all the information or as much as is feasible and you draw a conclusion based on what you learn. If you don't happen to agree with matter at hand, after having considered it, you have taken an open-minded approach to it. That is why the term homophobe is a misnomer. Because I don't agree with or approve homosexual behavior does not mean I'm scared or anxious about it. My belief and my understanding, which has taken decades to form as I have looked, listened and read a variety of information about this, is that homosexual behavior does not follow the natural purpose for humankind on this earth. Had I not spent any time examining this aspect of the world and simply made that conclusion, especially early on in my life when your thinking processes are not as defined or refined, then I would be acting in a close-minded approach. Therefore, these terms are not about acceptance, but about how one discerns information, and then ultimately, values.

Don't get me going about morals.....that's a whoooooole 'nother thing!!

Wenday: No they're not. Independent films are produced outside the hollywood system. They're movies without all the glitch and glamour of Hollywood.

Cartman: Well, you show one independent film that isn't about gay cowboys eating pudding.
Dude, this was exactly what I thought of when I heard about this movie...

I probably won't see it, I'm not into love stories. I actually like movies like Malibu's Most Wanted, so I guess you can judge my tastes off that.

BLOW is one of my favorite movies, I'm just not interested in watching a gay love story, or see two guy's grind eachother or kiss for that matter. Period end of my story. Thats just my take.
