    First, did you see "Crash?"

Look at all of the other movies nominated for Best Picture: They all were released in September or later. That's by design so they have a better chance of an Oscar nomination.

And "Crash" received nowhere near the credit or buzz of "Walk the Line," which was all over the front covers of newspapers and magazines and had a big advertising blitz upon release.

I'm not saying "Walk the Line" isn't worthy of a nomination. But to suggest "Crash" was nominated strictly because of buzz is way off the mark.

    Take care,

Crash was completely under my radar, I remember hearing about it last year and wanting to see it, I forgot about it and have not really heard anything about it until the Oscar talk recently. I just watched it tonight, man what a good movie, best I've seen all year. I don't remember it getting alot of buzz or critical acclaim, nobody I know has seen or even heard of it. I was a little suprised to hear about it getting Oscar nods, until I watched it. Great subject, great story, great cast and great acting, I really enjoyed this movie. I would like to start a thread to discuss the movie, but I know the subject matter will just get it locked like the Brokeback debacle I started.

Yep, Dales. I dont even see that many movies anymore, and I was very skeptical to see this film, but I came away EXTREMELY impressed. It was great.

It, like most other award shows, is a popularity contest now. It's not about which movies are the best, but which are the darlings of the critics. And those are two very different things.
Can someone please point me to the "buzz" that Capote and Good Night and Good Luck generated? I'd say both of those received half the publicity or "buzz" that any of the other movies receiving any type of Oscar nomination got.

Crash is a great movie. Easily one of the best of the year. Didn't the Cash's daughter just come out and say "that's not how it happened"? That's never good for a movie claiming to be biographical right before Oscar time.

Awesome, finally Paul Giamatti gets a nod. Crash was one of my favorite movies so hopefully they bring in a couple
Wasn't Giamatti just nominated last year (or the year before) for Sideways? I know he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for it.

If Giamatti wins for Cinderella Man and not American Splendor/Sideways, he'll be like Denzel Washington winning for Training Day, but not for Malcolm X/The Hurricane. At least, Denzel was nominated though. Probably the only thing those two guys have in common...
