I remember when I was a kid we used to play this game called "Smear the Q****" ...the name isn't politically correct anymore so I won't offend anyone. Anyway, you had about 20 guys...one football. And the object was to get the football, by any means neccessary, and then the other 20 guys would try to basically whup your a$$. The thing is, you WANTED the football. It was bragging rights to run aroung the playground jukeing and dodgeing would be tacklers, even is for only a full minute. Then 3 guys would tackle you and one of them would get the ball from you, and then you would try to kick the snot out of them.

We always came in from recess a mess. But...boys will be boys. And this was at a Catholic school....good times...

The way I played was that you tried to score a TD, so there was some point to it. Someone would kick it off, then it was on until someone scored a TD.

Our point was survival LOL. There were always certain kids that were tough to bring down, you wanted to be one of those kids. You know how important your rep is amongst your classmates in third grade right?

Yes....the same story that broke about this also mentioned that "running" was disallowed. Running. Disallowed. I think the follow up story should occur 25 years from now in the same community on their accelerated cholesterol and obesity levels.

yeah, I was always tough to bring down, only because I was faster than everyone though..........but it was only a matter of time before I ran out of gas and got tackled by 10 guys. When I was in 5th grade I played with a bunch of 8th and 9th graders all the time so I ate a lot of dirt.

So true... by the end of 5th grade tackle football had already been banned from my school. We had to play 2 hand touch. People are such hypocrits these days... they complain about obesity, yet they take away all activities that promote good health.

That's so funny that you mention "Smear the Queer". It's actually the premise in the opening of my EA Sports "Rugby 06" review that is in editing. Good times... good times.

Ah yeah...we couldn't play tackle football in elementary school...although we always tried, and always got in trouble.

By 5th grade we had gotten "punished" and only had one recess period instead of two...those bitches.

I used to be sick at school-yard football, but since I hurt my knee I can barely run these days.

Banning smarter people from getting into Princeton and Yale because it lowers the self esteem of dumber kids?

At my E-shcool, we could'nt play tackle football period. The entire playlot was concrete. Although when it snowed deep, we got busy.

Ah yeah...we had two different fields that they watched like a hawk...

of course they had too...we had one kid who had a habit of throwing footballs at peoples faces(nailed two kids square in the face, gave them a nice black-eye/bloody nose)

We played "Gorilla Ball" when the snow was deep. It was a combination of football and basketball. You didn't have to dribble... you could tackle... the way to score was to dunk a basketball between the rungs of the monkey bars. So there were like 7 places you could score. It was brutal. But a blast.

hahaha. We called it killaman. We also had team based killaman. 4th graders vs. 5th graders. Basically a hybrid of capture the flag/tackle football. Goal was for your team to have the football when recess was over.

Some devastating hits got laid but everybody loved it.
