    The FOUR Awards

    Beat of the Year:

Madlib's "Everything Man" by Talib Kweli
    (from Talib Kweli's Ear Drum)

The beginning of this track sets off "Ear Drum" in the right direction. Seriousness with soul. Let everyone know who's business Talib, and you can't get many better producers on the beat than Madlib as he does the perfect job spark-pluggin' the album. Kweli flows over this beat perfectly too. The lyrics alone are too sick ... to be cured? Ain't no pill nor no remedy... Thanks Madlib for the ear-orgasm I had when I first listened to this and for all the other people who almost busted an ear-nut when they heard it on the Bose. As for Talib, with his placement as number 2 on the Billboard 200 for his album Ear Drum, he is no longer "Underground" and has graduated to "Mainstream" status.

Fire...Phonte eats the beat. Pete Rock and Primo G.O.A.T's. I can't wait for this. I haven't purchased an album in a year or two. This is a must buy for me...

what a track. Phonte's first, but who is who after him. I liked whoever did the second verse.

          The second guy is Wordsworth.

Thanks Mood, that's the most ironic name I've ever heard. I researched the Romantic Poet William Wordsworth and I cracked up that one of the most influential poets in history has alliteration in his name as well as a pun. Golden. I liked this guy on that one track on Black Star.

Wordsworth is really good. He used to be on the Lyricist Lounge show on MTV(great show), I don't know if you watched it but they had a lot of good guys on there. He released an album a couple years ago that was nice too.

i heard it on the youtube thing you posted recently... From 9th's mouth he said that he was broadening his style but I don't know if he meant for all of his projects or just The Wonder Years. If he is talking about all of his upcoming work then I can totally see it being a 9th beat with the 70's soul samples, but it doesn't have the traditional 9th cymbal tap and it seems to be a little fast-moving... too fast for 9th. I guess we'll see once more info is released.

this is the perfect thread to get that underground feed you're looking for.

And yeah... 9th Wonder has been my favorite producer ever since his great improvement in 2005. Before that he was too simple for my taste, and although he is still "simple" to popular opinion, his beats have come a long long way. 2005, 2006, 2007... best producer IMO all of those years. 2008 is looking to be just as spectacular too.
