I pre-ear-jaculated. It's good but not nearly as good as I hyped it up to be. I still give the 13 song collection a solidi A though. It was a great Christmas surprise.

        Artist: Swann Notty
        Album: Classic Material
Produced By: j. DePina; 9th Wonder
        Release Date: December

This guy and j. DePina are two rookies to keep your eye on going into 2008. This album is a short little piece by Swann Notty who gets to hook up with 9th Wonder here several times, while introducing us to j. DePina who seems to have taken a page out of 9th Wonder's book of producing. His beats sounds identical at 9th's early stage.

Overall as the title suggests, you aren't getting any kind of concept album but it's a nice little welcome mat for Swann Notty letting people know his views, content, and what separates him from the rest. Give this young Rhode Islander some time. More hookups with 9th are always welcome in my book.

My favorite track is "Thin Line" because a lot of people think that there is a grey area to everything. The grey does exist, but for a lot of instances, you're either with one or the other. On one side of the thin line or the other. This is what the song is about.

        Artist: Infamous Mobb
        Album: Reality Rap
Produced By: Alchemist; Chaze; E Blaze; Enrico Alexander; Evidence; Havoc; King Benny; Steve Sola; Urilius; and More...
        Release Date: November 2nd

Not extremely impressed with IM3 on this joint, but they drop a few bangers. The Mobb has vocal swagger, and terrific flow. Pack that with an entrancing beat and you get hot hot stuff. This album is so hit or miss though that you will be all over the place picking what songs you want to listen to. Gets annoying. That's all I really have to say on this album. It's not good by any means. However, there are a few songs that would earn heavy rotation so it's really your call on this one. Make sure you download the Song to DL.

Go behind the scenes and see the making of 9th Wonder & Buckshot's video "No Doubt" featuring Charlie Murphy. The video is directed by Dru Ha and Rik Cordero.

The official release of the video will be in a few weeks.

X*Cell's Fans of Underground Rap? Awards (The "Four" Awards)

                Album of the Year:

                "Get Back" - Little Brother

If I'm trying to get friends or acquaintances to fall in love with true hip-hop, and I truly mean FALL IN LOVE with it, I have them listen to Little Brother or better yet "Get Back" by Little Brother. With many other artists you get a few pleasing reactions, but there are still a few people who may dislike them. When you pump Little Brother, everyone in a close vicinity will be bobbin' their heads, and in a matter of minutes will be asking who those tight emcees are they are listening to, and where they could go to get more of it. Another good sign is when the listeners spit the hook verbatim.

These ain't no "Souljah Boy" hooks people. This is some true **** that people WANT to say because Little Brother's subject matter tends to MEAN SOMETHING to each and everyone of us. "If this is love I don't wanna see hate, if this is real I don't wanna see fake." That's a line for your every-man which is what LB represents on this album along with the more obvious Love-song content and the 'I won't cave' mentality spurred on by the corrupt world of record labels.

The Get Back catches fire right from the Get-Go. Rapper Big Pooh's approach in "Sirens" should be the blueprint to starting off any kick-*** album. My hypothesis for "Can't Win For Losing" is that any die-hard Kanye West fan will find the most appeal on that track with the sampling. This is Illmind's 2nd of four rediculously awesome tracks. This leads to a legendary skit by our fave skit-makers poking fun at Stalker -ermm- Myspace.

Then you have "Breakin' My Heart", a song that sets off the 2nd half of this two-faced album... GIRLS and PARTYIN. When Phonte heard that Lil' Wayne was a big fan of LB and 9th Wonder, he went out and tried to get him for this song. He did, and naturally, all three emcees spit fire on this track, which is former LB'er 9th Wonder's only production on "Get Back". The hook is catchy and fun, and Lil' Wayne spits stuff like "I play fair like Roller Coasters and Clowns". This track is an instant classic. It's followed up with another superb, but short skit.

The rest of the songs follow the same mold. Overcome the haters, but still live to love and party. The album lacks the concept that Minstrel Show had, but packs the punch that Minstrel Show lacked. Nearly every song has lasting appeal and could be argued for as the best song on the album. "After the Party" is the sequel to "Life of the Party" and like LOTP, it features the beautifully-voiced Carlitta Durand. "Always tryin to impress these niggas, with expensive-*** liquor, I don't even like the taste of" ... and ... "Nobody wanna live they life, they just wanna re-enact the same scene every night" are some of the line gems dropped by Phonte Coleman who surprisingly has a worse showing than so-called weak link Rapper Big Pooh.

If that isn't a testament to the greatness of Little Brother, then... well... I don't know... you really can't call Little Brother anything LESS than great. There is no rhyme or reason that could even back it up. Keep on going and you hit tracks like "ExtraHard", "Step It Up" (both other's faves), and my personal favorite "That Ain't Love". Jozeemo's flow on that track is one of the best I've ever heard, because it has a sweeping feel to it that sounds effortless. He even starts off his verse saying "I'ma ride for my niggas, I figure that's what they all say, it's foul play but cuttin' throats is your forte, do it how you wanna be done, that's what the Lord say, daps and hugs but turn your back and get the sword play...". The song gets my adrenaline flowing EVERY time... even on my 62nd listen.

"Dreams" is one of the best beats of the Year. Can't hate on Rashid Hadee (the producer) who had a pretty decent year himself with his release of "Dedication". Honestly... nothing more I can say about this album without looking like an obsessive-nut... so I'll just summarize to you how much of an obsessive nut I am.... check out the playcounts ...
