        Artist: Statik Selektah
        Album: Spell My Name Right
Featuring: DJ Premier; Termanology; Styles P; Q-Tip; Talib Kweli; Consequence; Joell Ortiz; Kool G Rap; Sheek Louch; Freeway; Cassidy; DJ Khaled; Red Cafe; Mims; Uncle Murda; Sev-One; Jadakiss; Cormega; Royce Da 5'9"; Reks; Doug E. Fresh; Tony Touch; Scram Jones; DP-One; DJ GI-JOE; DJ Revolution; Esoteric; Clinton Sparks; Big Shug; M.O.P.; AZ; Slum Village; Granite State; Evidence; The Alchemist; A.G.; Jon Hope; Skyzoo; KRS-One; Large Professor; L Da Headtoucha
        Release Date: October 26, 2007

The featurettes here are star-studded and none fail to deliver. Statik provides some of the best beats around, and even with mainstream collabs like "Bam Bam" featuring the likes of Red Cafe and Mims, this album is one of the best you can get as an underground listener. Mims actually presents some mid-grade lyrics as opposed to his media-friendly "This is Why I'm Hot" which could arguably be the biggest piece of garbage I've ever heard. The beat on "Bam Bam" isn't even one of the best, but it's Jamaican flavor is very appealing. After that you have so many songs that are just so freaking good on this album. I was expecting big things here... and oh boy did I get it. My personal faves are "6 In The Morning", "G ****", "Punch Out", "No Holding Back", and "Talk to Me" but almost every track on here is worth listening to.

Anybody who likes jazzy hip hop needs to check out this guy called Nujabes. I've had one of his cd's for I don't know how long and I just listened to it and it's great. Anybody who says that hip hop isn't music needs to listen to this. Here's a sample track:

Ok, he doesn't sound like those guys pitch wise, but the difference certainly doesn't make Term's voice annoying (although this is opinionated, I'm just voicing ). I also think Termanology is great lyrically. I would welcome more cd's from him.

The beats on this album are very nice. I'll try to review it soon.

EDIT: Agreed on the "6 in the Morning" beat... fire.
I don't like Term too much either...just based off the first couple of tracks I heard him on where he would just spit alot of recycled lyrics

I can maybe see the resemblance to Pun or even a less aggressive Joell Ortiz but lyrically he aint on their level

he does get blessed with some heat for beats

that statik cd basically has all of my fav MCs right now besides Tigallo...Royce, Skyzoo, Joell

Tight song. Reminds me of the Early 90's and the Jazz era of Hip-Hop. Good Stuff.

What are everybody's top 5 songs right now? Doesn't necessarily have to be current, just songs you have been bumping alot lately. Mine:

MF Grimm - Right There (American Hunger)
Masta Ace - Good Ol' Love (A Long Hot Summer)
J Live - Braggin' Writes (The Best Part)
BlackStar - Thieves in the Night (BlackStar)
The Roots - Clones (Illadelph Halflife)

Speaking of J-Live though, how many people have heard him? I swear he may be the most underrated and unappreciated emcee EVER. Id be willing to bet that out of all the underground hip-hop gurus here, not many have heard J-Live.

I've heard of him but only because of his songs on The Return of Magnificent I'm trying to find his last album though. Anyway my top 5 songs right now are:

                  Nujabes- Lady Brown (Metaphorical Music)
Mr.J.Medeiros- Strangers (Of gods and Girls)
Atmosphere- The Rooster (Sad Clown Bad Fall)
Braille- Keep On (Shades of Grey)
Kidz In The Hall- Gotta Work (Detention)

the song he has with Jazzy Jeff on "Return of the Magnificent" is my favorite... "It's not a game... no, not a game... this is PRACTICE."

                    jmood, that song is tight.

                    my top 5 right now...

I've only heard two of his albums, "All of the Above" and "The Best Part" but both of them are superb.

I think All of the Above is a better starting point, even though TBP came out before it. It really doesn't matter though, they are both classic albums IMO.

The thing I love about J-Live is that he has such a retro, 80s sound to alot of his songs, but yet none of them feel old. Its really hard to pin down. Plus he is a lyrical beast. Definitely a top 10 MC in my book.

Practice is a great song and the beat is nice. Jazzy Jeff really needs to produce for more people.
