I dunno if any of you all have seen this, but this is a Detroit Free Press article about J Dilla's last days. Made me tear up a little when I was reading it.

Re: fans of underground rap?
A day listening to X*Cell radio...
I've got a mac... I've got itunes... and therefore music rules my life. 2,236 songs on my playlist currently and I'd safely say that 1,700 or so of them are appreciated. I always listen on shuffle so I get that radio feel... what's on next? I don't know, but I hope it's good. Uh, oh wait... I don't like this Brother Ali song... delete, skip, next song... 2,235 songs now... and a better grasp of my taste.
A lot of my pre-2007 songs have been cut down already. I saved the best and deleted the rest. Pre-2007 just doesn't interest me as much as 2007 does. Only natural that September 2007 is much more attractive than March 2007 also... but that's the progression of my playlist.
However, you can't beat that March release "Jesus Price Supastar"... "Violent" is at 196 plays, currently the highest on my playlist, followed by "Saved" at 157 plays. I always know what songs are the best on my radio. Thanks PLAY COUNTS. I know a lot of 2007 is gonna disappear for me once 2008 gets into full swing. Some songs will stand the test of time. "Reunion" by Slum Village came out in 2004 and is still going strong on my playlist.
Listening to 2007 though has been a hell of a ride. Today exemplified that when I turned on my "X*Cell Radio"... I heard songs like "Baking Soda" by Big TReaL & 9th Wonder, "Golden Ticket" by Von Pea & Median, "Scarecrow" by Grayskul, and a few other gems that had me feverishly bobbin my head. I even learned something new today... Phonte's verse in "Let It Be Known" on Jesus Price Supastar is one of the best of the year... Dear God did he just say that!?
My new favorite pre-2007 song... "Atari 2600"... it's my new theme song for sure... might have to be my ringtone... "A-TAR-I-DON'T-GO"...
I gotta say... I used to handpick what I listen to much more often than I do now, and I'm thankful I've made the change. Your playlist if kept in good shape like mine can surprise the hell out of you. You never know what you may get next, but it could be something dope... Don't doubt it... I say do it.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Re: fans of underground rap?
I also have the same setup and my playlist is only about 600 songs deep. It's building every day though. Lovin' music man. I have so much respect for these artists it's unreal. Being a rapper is one of the hardest things to be. The talent to do what they do is hard to find and whenever I hear that new kid come along with a good flow, I keep notice of him
I love musicComment

Please, everybody do yourself a favor to "Crewed Up", it's from the above post. It is quite possible one of the sickest combination of rappers/verses I've ever heard in my entire life.

Re: fans of underground rap?
First listen: AMAZING. It has a funky old-school vibe throughout the songs and Slug's verses are pretty damn tight.
There's a couple on there I didn't initially like. Domestic Dog is outrageous and I would've never thought to hear a song like that.
Jewelry/What they sitting for = not that great. They are the two shortest songs...both at just over a minute long.
YGM starts everything off great and really sets the vibe to follow. Crewed Up is going to be bumping in my car shortly...loud as hell.
Easlily an "A" in my book.Comment
