The DOC was on his way to being the GOAT. Of course that's debatable but seriously he was like the Bo Jackson of the game back in the day before his voice got messed up. His album is definitely one of the best ever.

Ren was good but I thought his 1st album was garbage (I think he had two but after his first solo attempt I wasn't going to take a dive on another one). With NWA, he was one of my favorites though.

Time:Line is a really good album. It's one of the few albums that I can listen to without skipping any tracks.

Anyone heard the new Soulstice track? It's called "Birds Eye View" I forgot right now who is featured on it with him, but I like it a lot.

You can download it off of iTunes.

Yea "Kizz My Black Azz", his first EP, wasn't exactly great. But "Shock Of The Hour" is excellent. I just gotta round up the rest of his and Ren's albums and I should be good.

I found all these artists on one site:

          ATCQ
          Da Youngsta's

          Kurtis Blow
          Marley Marl
          Masta Ace
          Mc Shan

          and more.

Masta Ace imo is the best individual emcee out there... get "Long Hot Summer" and "Sittin' On Chrome"... 2 classics.

Eric B & Rakim are some of my faves too... Rakim was 19 when he made "Paid in Full"... that's pretty ****in' amazing.

I love Brand Nubian. They are the group that started it all for me... They got me into hip-hop. Cop all of their albums. You will not be disappointed.

I love it too Kruza and you're absolutely right about the samples used. With the exception of "The PJ's" and the instant classic "Bring Yall Back", I wasn't particularly wowed by his sampling and his usage of them. Interestingly enough, those beat and sample snippets he has at the end of certain songs are crazy. That's nitpicking though as this easily one of my favourite albums in the early year., I love this album and I'm awaiting your review XCell...

If all of these are new to you then I'm jealous, man. You've got a lot of great music you'll hear for the first time? Lots and lots of classics on that list.

                  Yeah, nice list there gta95.

I'm not into downloads (strictly CDs for me), but I would check into all of the you listed. I just want to add a few notes.

The first three albums from ATCQ are sure-fire classics that are must-own (People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders), but ditch their fourth and fifth (Beats, Rhymes & Life and The Love Movement) as they weren't up to the extremely high standards that were set on the first three.

De La Soul's first four albums are outstanding 3 Feet High & Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mind State and Stakes Is High along with The Grind Date. Didn't care too much for the Art Official Intelligence and Bionix albums, though.

Check out Da Youngstas' classic second and third albums only (The Aftermath & No Mercy). Their first one (Somethin' 4 the Youngsta's) was only average.

Look for all three of Kool G Rap's albums with DJ Polo (Road to the Riches, Wanted: Dead or Alive, and Live & Let Die) as G Rap just kills it lyrically on all of them. But be warned that the beats for most of the tracks don't hold up well these days. And try to hunt down G Rap's Roots of Evil, one of the most outstanding and criminally underrated albums ever. Listening to this album is like watching Scarface/Godfather-esque movies put together with dark, haunting beats and quality storytelling rhymes that presents jaw-dropping visuals. And this albums still sounds great today. Simply G Rap at his finest in my opinion.

Kruza, you just killed me, man. I actually love Beats, Rhymes & Life. It's not "classic Tribe" but for some reason I could rock that from front to back all day long. I used to rotate it with Helter Skelter's Nocturnal album over and over (got both at the same time). I know most people disagree but something about that album got me hooked.

BTW, I thought I was the only one that still bought CDs. And Road to the Riches was incredible. I got a new G Rap CD a while ago that I completely forgot about. I think it's still in the wrapper. I need to go figure out what's up with it.

My favorite De La song ever is off one of their more recent albums "The Grind Date". The name of the song is "Much More" and it features Yummi. J Dilla does the beat, and oh what a beat it is.

I liked The Love Movement too but I will say it was my least favorite Tribe album (unless we count their solo stuff... ugh). It didn't have the same energy or something. Don't know.

Can't remember which album it was (b/c it sucked) but Ohh Ohh was hot and the beat was jumpin too. I can't even remember another song on that album though.

Heh, B,R & L was a decent album, but I was expecting so much more from them. Especially when De La Soul dropped the awesome Stakes Is High album around the same time. It just didn't last for me. Now whenever I want to hear ATCQ I reach for one of the Big 3. I guess I was just spoiled by ATCQ's previous albums.

Heltah Skeltah's Nocturnal album is definitely an outstanding one. I marvel at the great chemistry Rock and Ruck have on the mic.

And about Kool G Rap... are you referring to that Half A Klip EP he dropped a few weeks ago? I haven't heard that one for myself yet, but I've read/heard several reviews and opinions about it not being some of his best work. His post-DJ Polo albums 4,5,6 and The Giancana Story all have their shining moments. But it don't all come together like it does in Roots of Evil. Just a great and complete album. No fillers on that joint.

Eh, well I wouldn't say I hate The Love Movement. It does have a few good tracks on it that still bump today. But this album overall is just sooo lackluster to me, and like I had when I listen to B,R &L, I was expecting a whole lot more. I hear this then I want to quickly pop in one of the Big 3.

I hear you. If I were going to generally rate them I'd concede and put B,R&L 4th, but I honestly grab that one before I do the others believe it or not. I think it was just something about that time, it got heavy rotation for me. It might also be that I didn't necessarily need to grab the other 3 all that much b/c the tracks were everywhere while B,R&L didn't get much love so I gave it more conscience attention. Can't put my finger on it but I definitely know that I'm crazy on that one. I don't think there's one "classic" on there but that's kind of why I listen to it more... don't hear those songs any other time.

I'll check on the Kool G Rap album. It definitely wasn't anything that came out a week ago. It was something I stumbled on and got mixed in with one of my crack cd buying trips. That's why I don't even remember if I opened it. I'll find it and let you know... guess I'll listen to it too, lol. See if it's any good.
