Yeah 9th has really been stepping up lately.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -
Re: fans of underground rap?
I've only listened to Lemons once so far, but I love how the whole album revolves around a similar atmosphere (no pun intended) - reminds me of GLU in that way. Not much I can say about single songs, but I am definitely diggin' Ant's beats on the whole thing.

Re: fans of underground rap?
Rising Down just leaked...has a lot of featured artists on it, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I usually just like to hear BT spit the whole time. Haven't listened yet though, so I'll reserve judgment for a while.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
Wow, after one listen to Rising Down I'm extremely disappointed. That's something I thought I would never say about a Roots CD. But this is almost not even the Roots. I'm all for artists evolving and experimenting but this is beyond that. Beats are repetitive and weak to begin with, like they're trying to showcase lyrics, but BT only gets one verse on every song! Seriously, with the exception of 75 Bars, The Show, and Rising Up, Black Thought has one verse on every single song (and he only has two on The Show and Rising Up). There is someone featured on every track except 75 Bars and the interludes. BT rarely gets in on the hook.
Maybe things will change if I give it a few more listens, but I doubt it.

Couldn't agree more. This is the first Roots album I hate ever. I'm really only feelin 75 bars and Get Busy. Both are just so raw and amped up you can't help but love em. not feelin the new sound AT ALL though....major disappointment in my book.PSN: DoubleLGetsBusy

Co-sign on this. I've always been a fan of 9th (got into Little Brother because of him) and always loved his beats, but it's great that he finally started using different drums. I saw him making that change on Dream Merchant 2 and was loving it. 9th is about to take it to that next level and has a great chance to become a "go to" producer if he stays on this little evolution he's on.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Re: fans of underground rap?
wow, I didn't think I'd be disappointed in any Roots album ever, but Rising Down is not doing anything for me. I liked a couple songs (75 Bars, Rising Down and Criminal) but as a whole the album is a massive disappointment and will be the first Roots album I won't own.Lux y VeritasComment
