Often with indy alt rock you have people that can play instruments at a much higher level then the lyrical quality, which makes it a cluster@#^%.

When I think "underground rap" my initial thought is low production values and even more watered down lyrics then mainstream Hip-Hop. The truth is this genre of music is anything but. There is just SO MUCH quality music out there that hardly anyone knows about, then again I contend that we are in a age where TV has absolutely some of the best shows of all-time on right now,(Lost, House, The Office) yet they only have achieved so much of an audience.

The other thing is, and maybe its because I live in Chicago, this music has absolutely no presence here. You goto parties and people are still playing 50 cent and I think to myself "you people really like this sh!t". Seriously.
Yeh man. I really hate it when people say, "there isn't anything out" or "rap is weak right now"....Ummm no, chances are what you listen to is garbage but since joining in on this thread and some other blogs I go to I have found out about so many new artists who put out quality ish.

It's like when a random person asks you what artists you like and you think to yourself, "chances are you have never heard of any of these cats". Then you have to explain things to em.....Arghhh

That has to be it, because after really listening to Godlovesugly, there is some 5 star stuff there. Lovelife, Shrapnel, F@&K You Lucy are all crazy good.

USF, check out DJ Z-Trip's "Shiftin' Gears" album. I would classify it as a mix-tape since he lays down the beats and guest rappers come in to do the verses. MURS and Supernatural do a song called "Breakfast Club." One of my favorite hip-hop songs ever.

Also check out Finger Paint by Zion I.

Murs also has a great verse.

The emotion they both portray in their verses is unbeatable.

                        Yeah its a classic.

That is definately becoming the goto song on the drive home from the single bar scene!

Can someone explain to me something? How did "Mattress" not become a huge mainstream success, or atleast on the club scene. That is such a dancing song its not even funny.

Because people want to hear songs they know at bars/clubs. Funny thing is I don't know a damn song that comes on. However they're so predictable it's easy to dance to. I guess that's why people like them. Oh well to each his own.
