Mos' new cd is a disappointment... since I didn't actually buy it (DL'ed it), I am not going to review it, because I didn't pay for the right to do that... lol...

but here is my grade at least...

        Re: fans of underground rap?

Well, I'm not really into rap that much, but I just wanted to see if any of you guys listen to the Indiefeed Hip Hop podcast.

If you've never heard of it, Indiefeed is basically a podcast that every few days posts a song from an independent artist. I listen to the two alternative feeds, and its become a great way for me to discover music.

If you use iTunes basically go to the podcast directory and search for Indiefeed and subscribe to the Hip Hop One. You can go back and download all the previous tracks. And, at least for the independent podcasts, you can find other stuff from the artists on iTunes. It's great.

Anyways, just thought it might be a good way to find some good underground rap....

          Re: fans of underground rap?

          CD's to look forward to...

          Artist: AZ
          Album: "The Format"
Producers: Jim Bond; Ghostface Killah; Hi-Tek; Kool-Aid & Peanut; Madlib; MF Doom; Mark Ronson; Xtreme; Pete Rock; J Love; Fantom of the Beats; Lewis Parker; K Flack; Anthony Acid
          Release Date: December 12th

Reason: Widely considered the underground album of the year in 2005, "Fishscale" is followed up by "More Fish". It comes out tomorrow people!!! He has a lot of no-namer collabos but he does include Redman, Kanye West, and Ne-Yo on this joint. He also features Sungod which is his teenage son. The album looks promising as was "Fishscale" so this is very high on the to-get list.

Chance of Buying it: 50/50 for me... I'm sure it's close to 100% for the rest of you. I'm not a huge Ghostface fan, but I know many who are.

          Artist: Lupe Fiasco
          Album: "Street Smart" (Mixtape)
          Producer(s): Unknown
          Release Date: December 8th

Reason: Everyone loves Lupe, so getting exclusive non-released mixtape ish shouldn't be a thought process for anyone. So if you're street smart, you know what to pick up next. Ironically, he's featuring Ghostface on it.

Chance of Buying it: Pretty Good

          Artist: Nas
          Album: "Hip Hop is Dead"
Producer(s): L.E.S.; Salaam Remi; Scott Storch; Nas; Will.I.Am; StarGate; Kanye West; Mark Batson; Chris Webber; Dr. Dre
          Release Date: December 19th

Reason: Great Christmas present for anybody. I mean come on, this is Nas. Well, that is what everyone else says at least. As for me, I'm not excited. I don't care about a Jay-Z collabo, neither do I care about a Dre, Snoop, or Kelis collabo (I loved Snoop, but he's way past his prime). Hooking up with the Game, will.i.am, and Scott Storch? Count me OUT! Where the hell is DJ Premier? The Kanye West and Chris Webber tracks are worth checking out. The entire album? No sir.

Chance of Buying it: Let's be honest. You guys will buy it... I won't.

I'm excited about "More Fish". Fishscale is one of my fav albums of the year. With Ghost, you gotta actually listen to his rhymes at least two or three times over again to understand them. Once you decipher the verbage, his skillz become clear.

As for Nas, got it off the net today. So far so good, haven't listened to all of it yet.

Hey XCell, I read a quote somewhere from Phonte saying, "If you buy Little Brother albums just because of 9th's beats, don't buy Get Back". Well hehe to be honest that one of the main reason I listen to their music. Although, Big Pooh is the better MC in my opinion anyway.

yeah, it was in his blog... it was the type of fan he can't stand. He listed 3 types of Little Brother fans. As for myself... I love everything they do, 9th or not... obviously 9th Wonder is an integral part of the group (the best part IMO), I still love the group from Tay to Big Pooh...

Check out "El Fin" by Big Pooh on his myspace... Great song... and lyrically, Pooh does a great job.

XCell, did you listen to HHID yet? I think your pre-release criticisms were a little harsh. There's no need to disregard an entire Nas album because Primo isn't on it.

Plus with all the other collabs, it's nice that those more "mainstream" acts molded their style to fit Nas and this album as opposed to Nas fitting into their style - which is something Nas has done in the past and brought down his albums. I actually like the Snoop track quite a bit, I figured I would hate it.

Plus this album has a cohesiveness to it and meshes better than any of his albums since IWW.

I'm all about pre-release criticisms lol... but what I mainly try to do is capture the mind of someone who has no idea about the album... I guess I'll have to preview a couple tracks if it really is that good... but I sincerely doubt I'll be dropping any loot for it.

agreed....the will.i.am track is hot as is the scott storch beats...ppl just hate on these dudes but they actually are capable of pumping out some dope beats sometimes. and on this album they came correct.

Got the new Ghostface. The last 2 weeks I haven't had the internet (well, AOL, but yeah) so this may not be news to ya'll, but there doesn't seem to be any Raekwon or any real Wu members nor does it have any "sequal" songs except for the Back Like That Remix. That said, it's sounding pretty nice through the first few songs.

                                Artist: Kaze
Album: Word on the Street (Mixtape)
Producers: Erv F.O.R.D. (2); Low; Astronote; K.Hill; Shuko; Analogic (3); J. Thrill; Hathe; Jah Free; Illmind; Jazz-B; Jimi Conway; 9th Wonder; DJ Revolution; Oddisee; K. Slack; The Dem; DJ Rhettmatic

Kaze doesn't come super strong with this one, but there are shades of skills apparent. He and the many other mc's from NC are proving that Carolina is the best state in hip-hop and will replace New York. 9th Wonder and Illmind make an appearance. DJ Rhettmatic reps the beat junkies and does a track. Analogic produces 3 tracks, and he is always on point. Kaze also culturalizes the album with guests from France, Germany, and Spain to rap and produce. Lyrically, he is angry, but also full of pop-culture references. There are a lot of good tracks on the album, around 14 or 15. The problem is that there are 23 total tracks. None of the tracks will wow you either. Fun to bump, but not a whole lot of lasting appeal. However, "Slave 2 Yourself" is a well-written and well-produced song, and is easily the best song on the album and can be kept on repeat as you will never get tired of it. One more fact: Jozeemo is on the album. I made a mistake by naming Skyzoo "Rookie of the Year". Jozeemo is the "Rookie of the Year".
