    Re: fans of underground rap?

ONE song with Jay, and it wasn't even the best song on the album! Primo's gotten more out of Nas than anyone other than Large Professor. After 9th produces Jay and Nas for half their albums, then the point is moot. As long he's just mailing them beat tapes, it's valid.
Yep JJames exactly, doing a remix album for Jay and Nas and one original single for Jay is not the same as:

Nas - N.Y state of mind pt 1 and pt. 2(my fav Primo, Nas collabo)
    Nas - Nas is Like
    Jay-z - Friend or Foe '98
    Jay-z - Million one Question/Rhyme No More
    Jay-z - D'evils

    Just to name a few.....

Kruza, I almost forgot about Marley Marl too hehe. The last track I heard from him was the "Haters" track for LL Cool J. That "Wrath of the Math" is a classic album IMO. Primo brought it on that album, so did Jeru btw hehe. You're absolutely right about Paul. Prince among thieves is one of my favourtie albums of all time. Love the Xzibit, Sadat X track(prison track)

"What you in for, everything under the sun
Recently, got me first degree wit a hot gun
That's my third strike, so Xzibit can't go home
Fight to see Daylight like Sylvester Stallone
Don't ask too many questions *****, keep that on the d-low
My family might mistake you for an undercover C-O"

    Xzibit - Handle Your Time

Why does Immortal Technique not blow?

The reason why I can't stand him because he is like a GOTH in rap. He is much more of a whiner than a lyricist. I don't like his voice. I just don't like his message, plain and simple. It's so cliche for us undergrounders. It means nothing in my eyes.

He's alright, only has one flow, but he's alright. He has slick political/pop culture references, but listen to that stuff all day and you're depressed. In small doses, he's fine. He certainly doesn't "blow".

The same reason I don't want to "shake my *** up in da club"
all day, or wear a hoody all the time, is the same reason I don't want to hear a whole album about somebody complaining and talking politics. Balance.

This cd is only somewhat heroic, but some of the style thrown down is pretty damn dope. It's just a shame that Amp Live pretty much produced the entire album. The two best songs on the 15-track cd aren't produced by him. Instead, they are created by Eligh and Headnodic. I always express my opinion strongly about the beats in each of my reviews, but the lyrics here are pretty-super hero like. Zion does a great job tackling issues that are fresh off his mind. Oaktown, Bay Area, South Central, and LA should be proud of their young heroes. More and more hookups like this (maybe we can toss in Murs next time) should make for some good tunes to listen to. Oh yeah, and Chali 2na fans... he's on this cd.

just yesterday I was driving to work, listening to the cd and I thought, "I wonder what XCell would grade this? If I had to guess, I would say B+" But I love the album, and some of the songs I didn't like much originally are growing on me. I also felt like a visit from Murs would've been awesome, maybe someday later.

And as long as we're talking producers here, I'm going to second Prince Paul and also give a nod to Chief Xcel- look at the work he did on Blazing Arrow.

When you said some of the tracks are growing on you... I couldn't agree more... there are a few tracks that I used to just skip over... now I'm listening to them full fledge. This is a pretty good cd most def.

Very well said. His angle is to be extreme or at least to be controversial. I can appreciate his work though, to a certain extent, but he doesn't blow! Revolutionary Volumes One and Two have a handful of classics.

Blazing Arrow was a great album. Thanks for reminding me about it too, I'm gonna play it on my way to school tomorrow.

                      Re: fans of underground rap?

                      CD's to look forward to...

                      Artist: AZ
                      Album: "The Format"
Producer(s): Lil Fame; Face Defeat; Emile; J. Cardim; Statik Selektah; DJ Premier; Phonte Coleman
                      Release Date: November 7th

Reason: I have been anticipatin' this album full-fledge. Little Brother is featured on there. Phonte produces the song along with J. Cardim. DJ Premier also mans the beat for the song titled "The Format" which is an AZ-type song, meaning it has all the bells and whistles that make a sick song. Practically the whole cd, AZ goes solo, save for two songs. The last track (bonus track) is aimed at retaliating against 50 Cent who dissed AZ on the song called "What If". The bonus track is titled "Royal Salute". The song featuring Little Brother is called "Rise & Fall". The album also comes equipped with a concert/music video DVD. It's only $15.57 at www.undergroundhiphop.com. Also... AZ is the most underrated rapper in history (IMO).

Chance of Buying it: Nothing will keep me from buying this cd.

                      Artist: Frank-N-Dank
                      Album: "Xtended Play Version 3.13"
Producer(s): J-Dilla; Oh No; Saukrates; Tone Mason; The 2 Swift Household
                      Release Date: October 24th

Reason: I haven't heard much of these guys, but they are supposed to be up-and-comers, ready to shine. They have hooked up with artists like Slum Village (with beats done by the late Jay Dee aka J-Dilla), Busta, TCQ, and Common. I think it could be worth taking a look, but I wish I had some material of theirs to make some kind of inference or further review.

                      Chance of Buying it: Slim

                      Artist: Termanology
                      Album: "Hood Politics 4"
Producer(s): DJ Premier; Roc Raida; MoSS; J. Cardim; DC; Statik Selektah
                      Release Date: October 17th

Reason: I don't know, I just saw what was virtually the same producers AZ was using. Primo!!! I guess this dude has some kind of hype around him though.

Chance of Buying it: Where was Hood Politics 1-3??? No Chance for me. Just kind of putting this out there.

                      Artist: Grandmaster Melle Mel
                      Album: "Muscles"
                      Producer(s): Black Solaris Productions
                      Release Date: January 1st

Reason: Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!! Where have you been Melle Mel? Remember him fellas? From Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. It's been a long time eh? Enough time to roid up it looks like. I don't know if anyone would really be into this cd, like what can this guy offer this late in the game, and why did it take him years to put something out?

Chance of Buying it: Not good, but I'll check in on him.

                      Artist: Lloyd Banks
                      Album: "Rotten Apple"
Producer(s): Havoc; Young RJ Rice; Ron Browz; 10 for the Triad; Dirty Swift; Eminem; Needlz; Nick Speed; 9th Wonder; Dave Morris; Young Lord
                      Release Date: October 10th

Reason: I had no idea this came out... anyone know if it's good? I of course downloaded the song "One Night Stand" produced by 9th Wonder, and its awesome. What are the other songs like?

Chance of Buying it: Probably not... I'll just download and see what tracks are good. Not too hard to find an artist like Lloyd Banks loitering on Limewire.

Termanology had a small buzz last winter. I think it was mostly from people within the industry who wanted to sign him. Or his people trying to drive up the price. I think he sounds like crap.

The Banks CD...well, if you liked the last one this one is just as good. There's two songs I really really like, the rest is your better than average mainstream stuff. You either like it or don't.

And Mel has always been huge and cut. I remember running into him around '97 and was like "wow!". I had a funny conversation with him, too, but I doubt I can print it here.

ONLY $15.97?? Why pay that much for CD's Xcell? Surely you can find it for $12.99 or less in a local store?

By the way, Banks' album is not very good IMO. His first one was a lot better I thought.
