idk about that... let's point out the work guys like P. Diddy have done before calling Premier overrated. P. Diddy is super famous and he has produced absolute ****.

and for Primo... download "6th Sense" by Common... that alone puts him into the elite... and his other beats are complementative. (Note: Common on that song is also unbelievable... amazing lyrics).

Let's see...he carried Guru for 14 years, made Group Home and Jeru sound good, produced almost every MC worth anything and has dozens of uncontested classics under his belt. He's inspired so many of the producers out now, as well. It would take me all day to list all of his accomplishments.

      Primo > Your favorite producer
      Primo > Your favorite beatmaker

And X, you can't hate on Diddy that much. He might not be a beatsmith, but he knows how to produce an artist, which is what a producer really is.

not to get off the Primo bandwagon, but does anyone know if RA the Rugged man will be dropping a new album soon. I really enjoyed Die, Rugged Man, Die and he's been killing tracks as of late. His verses on the new Jedi Mind Tricks album and that Nature Sounds compliation from a while back were just bananas.

I haven't heard anything about him putting out a new solo, but today I read that him and Vinnie Paz want to put out an album together. Nothing concrete though, just an idea I think.

And I think he's making a movie right now.

            From Wikipedia:

Mr. Rugged has also recently signed a book deal that will explore his maniacal love of boxing to be co-authored with Max Boxing's Doug Fischer and scheduled for publication in spring '07 from Testify / Powerhouse Books.

A rabid horror-film fan, R.A. has written three screenplays with cult-film director Frank Henenlotter -- "Sick in the Head," "Love is Hell," and "Twisted Sex" -- the latter of which is scheduled for production this year with R.A. as co-writer and Producer.

I don't give a **** about diddy. Premier has some beats that I like but a majority of them are just very simplistic and don't sound good to me. His scratching is great though.

doesn't make him better though... Michael Jordan's dad wasn't better than MJ at basketball...

I still say 9th Wonder is the greatest.

Greatest of the past year, maybe. I prefer Alchemist, but there's no way I can trip off that. In fact, I don't think he's even better than Necro.

As for Primo, he's the GOAT producer. There was never any doubt whether he employed ghost producers and he did things with certain MC's that no one could ever do. Look no further than Livin' Proof. What's Jeru done after he left the Foundation? How about Guru? All those guys were highly regarded, and now they can't give their CDs away.

LMAO @ 9th Wonder being greater than Primo. If he keeps it up for the next 10 years, then we can discuss it.

"it's not on iTunes" referred to any Dr. Octagon. there's like one song on it.

and if you read the rest of my post, correctly, you would know that I was talking about the FIRST Dr. Octagon cd. not the new one, or the bootleg that was posted on hiphopsite. I even said first, in multiple posts...

                              and on to the discussion...

I agree with XCell that 6th sense is incredible. Awesome producing, writing, flow, I mean everything is awesome. I don't know how I would rate Premier relative to others, I mean, I guess it's all just personal preference. I know when I first got into hip hop I really didn't care for 9th wonder beats and thought he was holding back some of the lyricists he worked with. Since then, it's been a different story. His stuff has grown on me. A perfect example for me is the first Felt album, a Tribute to Christina Ricci. I remember the first month or so I listened to it, I liked it, but felt that the beats were lukewarm. Since then, well I still listen to that disc all the time if that tells you anything.

edit: I picked up the Zion I and Grouch album today, and though I've had a limited time to listen to it so far, it seems pretty good. The thing is, with most Zion I work, it's growing on me. I love "True and Living" but I remember the first couple times I heard it, I almost stopped listening to it. Glad I didn't. Currently digging the songs: "Kicking It", "Trains and Planes", "Too Much", "The Faint of Heart", and "Hit 'em"

I'm sorry, but anyone who things 9th is the greatest is a ****ing fool. I can make a 9th wonder beat; steal a ****ty 1960's soul sample, add kick #67 and snare #26 from Fruity Loops and add base....there you have it.
