Holy ****. "So Far to Go" produced by Jay Dill is the song of the year, or at least the summer. What a beat. It begs for an OMG. WOW what a song.

....and it's defiantly the best album of the year so far. The album is similar to BE but at the same time the production is more experimental (in a good way) and Common touches on a bigger variety of subjects (especially on Forever Begins, Misunderstood, and Drivin Me Wild). The basic sound of BE is still here though and that's a good thing...because Common and Kanye make some great music together.

I know....That's pretty much what I was stating with my last sentence.

And Jmood...I guess 9th Wonder isn't really getting worse, he's just not improving at all IMO. So basically every year I get more and more bored with his beats. I still like him though and love alot of his earlier beats. "The Listening" is one of the best albums of the 2000's.

            CD's to look forward to...

            Artist: Madlib
            Album: "Beat Konducta India"
            Producer(s): Madlib
            Release Date: August 28th

Reason: Beat Konducta Movie Scenes was pretty tight... Madlib alone is pretty tight.

            Artist: Guilty Simpson
            Album: "Ode to the Ghetto"
Producer(s): Denaun Porter, Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No, Jake One
            Release Date: September 25th

Reason: The first half of 2007 was a quiet one but with much success. Lots of great tracks and albums for sure, but the 2nd half is 'bout to get loud... especially on 9/25 with The Getback coming out and this much anticipated cd with some of the hottest producers around.

            Artist: AZ
            Album: "The Memphis Sessions"
            Producer(s): N/A
            Release Date: August 7th

Reason: 1st disc is songs from The Format ... reformatted over soulful funky beats apparently, and disc 2 is all new stuff from AZ... uhhhhhh.... MUST GET?

            PART 3 ... COMING SOON!!!

              Artist: Common
              Album: Finding Forever
Producers: Devo Springsteen; J Dilla; Kanye West; DJ Premier; Karriem Riggins; will.i.am
              Release Date: July 31, 2007

A lot of the songs sound way too similar and that is in large part because of Kanye West producing 10 of the 13 songs and doesn't attempt to change up the style much. However, that being said, Common put out another cd that is worth appraisal. None of the songs really blow you away, but all in all it's a consistently good album with no immediate flaws.

If I had to make up a definition of why Common named his cd "Finding Forever" it would be his search for hip-hop longevity and that special place where all the greats are remembered and haven't been forgotten. With another solid album, Common is beginning to find forever (ha, track 12), and no matter what your opinion is of him... you can't deny that he IS one of the all-time greatest.

P.S.... Lonnie Lynn Sr. is back.

              Do you consider Common underground?

I don't consider him underground, but his content speaks for itself. Besides getting the "big name" producers to make his beats, he's yet to water himself down or talk about mindless ****. To me the music is just as good as when he first came out. Album is one that you play all the way through.

CD's to look forward to... Part 3

                  Artist: Wordsworth
                  Album: "For People without Turntables"
                  Producer(s): Marco Polo and Others
                  Release Date: Out

Reason: Can't deny his lyrical talent and you can't turn down the features he's got... Masta Ace (EMC), Talib, Mos Def, Access Immortal, Q-Tip, Punchline, Marco Polo, and others.

                  Artist: Median
                  Album: "Median's Relief"
Producer(s): Koen, Zo!, 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Ant B, Nicolay, Centric, C. Keen
                  Release Date: August 28th

Reason: Wow... 3 of my fave producers are behind the boards on this one... two of them are my 1 & 2 no doubt (9th and Khrysis). Median also has good flow and lyrical content, and this is well overdue. Some tracks include featuring artists. Strong scent of the Justus League I can smell here. Joe Scudda, Chaundon, and L.E.G.A.C.Y. with a few others.

My Finding Forever copy doesn't have Play Your Cards Right. Are you talking about the same song on the Smoking Aces soundtrack? The version I have, has only 12 songs.

Yeah, it is actually listed as a "Bonus Track" on his album.

                        Artist: Sean Price
                        Album: Master P
Producers: Agallah; Babu; Diamond D; Khrysis; Moss; 9th Wonder
                        Release Date: July 24, 2007

The mixtape starts strong but ends shotty and that's no reference to Agallah who produces one pretty tight song right off the bat called "M.A.S.T.E.R. P.". The mix kicks off with what we love about Sean P... his bragadocious behavior about being the brokest badass breathing. Ouch, what a tounge twister. Tounge twisting is actually my favorite approach by Sean Price and he does it often.

What's not so good is that he mentions Penny from "Goodtimes" AGAIN!... what is that? Like the 5th time? Just cause you're broke doesn't mean you have to look through your recyclables for rhymes Sean!

This mixtape has the same kind of power that Jesus Price Superstar did. A couple bangers but an overall bleh cd that could be so much better. Monkey Barz in 2005 suffered the same fate, but like 2005... 2007 is shaping up to be a great year for the Boot Camp Clik individually, while 2006 was a knockout year for the entire group collectively. You can't go wrong with BCC / especially / when you listen to the great Sean P.

                        P!!!!

Artist: Skyzoo (w/ DJ Kay Slay & Mick Boogie)
                            Album: Corner Store Classic
Producers: Black Milk; DJ Premier; Hi-Tek; Illmind; J Dilla; Khrysis; M-Phazes; Madlib; Pete Rock; Ron Browz; T-Ray; Waajeed; 9th Wonder
                            Release Date: July 20, 2007

The Rookie of the Year returns in 2007 with the mixtape he shed light about late last year, and he hits no sophomore slump with this one. With top notch producers and the ability to make the catchiest hooks in all of hip-hop, Skyzoo is not only taking NYC by storm, but the whole rap industry may fall to his feet if his success continues.

His collaberation with 9th Wonder is nothing short of awesome to say the least, and nobody captures Skyzoo's flow better than good friend DJ Premier. And while his originals are bonkers, his used beat selection is stellar. Can anybody say "Straigten it Out" produced by Pete Rock originally for CL Smooth? How about that annoying humming beat from J Dilla for The Visionaries that is actually a pretty sick beat regardless?

A mixtape always leads to something ya know. This kind of speculation gets me giddy and excited for what could be in store for us listeners as far as Skyzoo is concerned. I heard he is doing another solo with 9th. OH GOD. I think I just pissed my pants.
