Rapper Mos Def Conjures "Magic" On New Album

Here's a little entry on AOL's Music Blog:
Brooklyn rapper/actor Mos Def will release his first album since 2004's 'The New Danger,' on Sept. 26. Dubbed 'True Magic,' the effort includes new tracks like 'The Undeniable' and 'There Is a Way.'
'True Magic' isn't the only new release from the prolific entertainer. Following the successful 24-second short film Mos created for Converse's Spring 2006 Brand Democracy ad campaign, he has his own Converse shoe coming out. The Chuck Taylor All Star Mid Music, based on the classic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker, will be available Aug. 1 at both Foot Locker and the Converse Web site.
The sneaks will feature laser-etched pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline.

ok guys... what do you think?

I've been listening to a lot of Little Brother lately (ok, for the past freakin year), but recently something has caught my eye, and I'm not sure if my assumption is correct or not here, but it has to do with Percy Miracles.

I mean the guy looks rediculous, his lyrics are rediculous, his voice doesn't sound-super melodic... but you listen to him because he's kind of funny (lyrics, voice, looks).

Then you take a little closer look at him. Yeah it's hard to get past the nutty hair-do, and the rediculous glasses, and the grills on his teeth, but doesn't he look a lot like:

      PHONTE!?!?!?!

I really think thats Phonte in a get-up singing crazy R&B tunes... what do you guys think... if you aren't familiar with Percy, check it out and get back here and post. I really really think its Phonte playing dress-up and getting his soul on (comedically of course... we all know Phonte is a very funny guy).

Yea its him but I thought it was well known. I just dont get why an artist does that. Like Phonte, Rza as Bobby Digital, Kool Keith as Dr.Octagon, I just dont get why you change your name.. especially when people are more likley to buy an album with Rza on a album then Bobby digital.

Well I can see it being used in Phonte's case because its supposed to be a joke, but Rza and Kool Kieth just become new rap monikers... its not even a changed style of music.

Now that I know its Phonte I will laugh everytime I see it.

I just figured it was Tiggalo's alter-ego poking fun at the R&B industry.

It wasn't supposed to be a secret. I thought everybody knew that it was him. Xcell, you do know that he sang all the hooks on the listening right?

Yeah... I don't think I was fooled persay finding out about this, but I never really looked into it... It just didn't occur to me.

I really should have known (and which is why I came to know) that he was Percy Miracles, because Phonte is really really funny dude. If he wasn't a rapper, I would say he should take up comedy... he's hilarious.

I've ordered a couple albums within the past week:
Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask
                    MF Doom - MM...Food?
                    Madvillain - Madvillainy
                    Murs - 3:16

                    and I pre-ordered Outkast's "Idlewild."

Top notch. All good albums. I'm anticipating something very different from Idlewild and I bet it will be good, but when artists do different things, the result isn't always good.

I have never gotten Mf Doom's appeal.

I think he's an incredible writer which makes it fun to listen to his lyrics. Plus, as a fan of underground stuff, I'm always drawn to stuff that is different or outside the box, if you will, and I believe he qualifies. For what it's worth, I also like Kool Keith and we all know how f*cked up that dude is.
