They haven't gotten any advertising at all and most people wouldn't even know that they had another album out if they didn't look for it.
Atlantic, or any major, isn't going to put money behind an act only to see them flop. Little Brother with a lot of money behind them might just have failed. In this day in age, it's hard to break a group like them into the mainstream. With no money behind them, they can grow for the next 15+ years. They're fan base is extremely loyal and can only help them sell more albums through the best form of advertising -- free advertising! Why throw that away and waste money on a very shakey maybe?

And who told them to sign with Atlantic, a notoriously cheap label who always takes this approach? Ask Fat Joe...better yet, you can ask me. I used to work there.

Yes it makes a lot of sense to sign a group and not market them at all. Don't try to expand their fanbase, that's a genius move right there. The better question is why would you sign a group knowing that you won't give them any money and won't see them go platinum?

It started some serious conversation, and probably sold more records for them if the video was played. The whole curiosity factor. The "us against the machine" way of thinking. It was a way for Atlantic to get some advertising without spending a lot of money. A Rap group from North Carolina doesn't get signed to a major to sell 100k in this day and age, unless it's by design.

Remember, they are on a major label. I learned a long time ago not to trust anything or anyone that comes out on a major.
They only sold 80,000 records with their 'gimmick'

Don't tell me the plan was to NOT get on BET.

Little Brother's sales should be growing with every album they release on Atlantic. The attitude over there is "word of mouth". They're content to sell 100k, as long as there's a strong buzz. That usually means the next time out they should move around 250k. The people in charge think that can be done with little money.

It's cheap, it's lazy, but it's how it goes.

80k is just what Atlantic was hoping for at this point. It hasn't stopped selling, while others on the label have seen their sales come to a complete halt. If they can put little money behind them while breeding a loyal fanbase, they're going to do it. It should only pay during he next 10 years.

And not getting on BET fed into the mystique.
Things aren't done without any reason in regards to the music business anymore. It's not 1999.

I think it was planned. Word of mouth, viral and guerilla marketing are what's hot these days, and if you go anywhere on the web where people are talking hip hop, LB definitely has some of the biggest buzz, which is exactly what atlantic wants. I bet their next album will drop 100,000 in the first month.

Thats definetely true... People have no reason to talk about rappers like T.I., or Yung Jeezy because they are all over the radio, so everyone knows about it... what's left to say?

Rappers like Little Brother are discussed, because they are the group that you think is hot, and now you want everyone else to know about it. So you come on here, or anywhere else for that matter... and talk about them.

I think they will sell much more of their next album...

Just by bringing the Minstrel Show to a couple parties, and gatherings... I have seen 40-50 new fans evolve, saying their stuff is the ****, and how they want more of their stuff.

I converted one of my good friends to heavy-mainstream listening, to a giant step inside the underground perimeters. His new favorite artist: ... LITTLE BROTHER.

                      Me!

While I'm not really into the rest of the Justus League, 9th and Krhysis always bring it and the rest of the producers they brought in are among the best (Nottz been slipping lately, though).

Cormega and Little Brother over Buckwild? Nice!

I didn't hear it yet. But when I compare the stuff he did from '99-'02, it was a lot better than what he's been putting out the last few years.

How come the Nicolay track didnt make it onto the release and one of my favorites "making my way" isnt a bonus, although it is if you buy it off of iTunes.

                                I just got it...

to be honest... I'm not very impressed... I don't think S1 did an above-average song with any of his tracks.

I love "Special" and "You (The Only Ones)"... I also like "Soul Clap", but the other songs are nothing more than average if you ask me...

They are probably better than most songs you'll find in hip-hop altogether, but with the underground I listen to, its not really cutting it.

Those 2 songs I mentioned though will get many, many, many plays on the good ol' XBOX 360.
