I'm not much of a metal head, but I've always enjoyed guitar-heavy metal rap whenever it's done right. It's not a new concept at all as hip-hop artists like Ice-T (even before Body Count album), Public Enemy, The D.O.C. (Remember "Beautiful but Deadly"?), various acts who contributed to the Judgment Night soundtrack during the early '90s, and of course Run DMC have proven that this can be a successful fusion over the last 20+ years. Recently Ill Bill has been the main one carrying the torch with the hip-hop/metal fusion with his La Coka Nostra album that was released a couple years ago. Despite being primarily a hip-hop album, Ill Bill had a couple mind-blowin' metal rap joints on there that I think are actually the best tracks on the entire album. Also, I've read that his latest album The Hour of Reprisal which came out late last year follows along those lines. At any rate, it's cool to know Cage is doing the same.

I'm calling it right now. Mos Def's "The Estatic" will be the album of the year. Just listened to the album sampler. Amazing.

I'm mostly unimpressed by Atmosphere, but do they have any tracks like this where Slug straight murders over a hot beat? Seems to me like hes crying about women a little too much on what I've heard of them so far (trying to get through all 6 LPs)

I think you'd be better suited listening to You Can't Imagine How Much Fun Were Having.

There's a lot less of the crying over women stuff in that. It's still in there just nowhere near as prevelant as in God Loves Ugly and Seven's Travels.

                    Get this.

I want to see a Torae/Reks album produced by Statik Selektah.

Yeah, I'm all over that Double Barrel album coming out next week jmood88. I really like MP's production style in Port Authority along with a few feature tracks on other people's albums, and Torae has flows for days.

I hope ya'll are familiar with the producer Mr. JoeKer... he has done some extensive work with Cymarshall Law while residing in New Jersey (he's originally from Hungary). He has a few instrumentals to kick it off, then he turns to features and remixes... and does them all up nicely. He features the likes of Cy, KRS, Emilio Rojas, Kev Brown, and he remixes the Royce/Elzhi/Supastition joint "Best to Do it". I'm really liking this mixtape.

OK, so The Estatic maybe isn't an Album of the Year contender, but it is still pretty good. It feels so short, though.
