    Good for him.

    I kid. Well, kinda.

Of the two, I'd probably go with Audioslave simply because Cornell annoys me much less than Zach did.

Yeah, I love Rage but they are pretty liberal and sometimes De La Rocha's lyrics can get tiring. Both are really good bands, and Tom Morello is one of the best modern guitarists out there.

Personally, I found Rage more appealing than Audioslave. Liked the energy behind Rage's music. Audioslave just doesn't do it for me for whatever reason.

If you could somehow combine RATM's music with Audioslave's lyrics, that would be great. Morello was allowed to freelance a lot more in RATM and as a result they had a much less polished, much more raw sound that I liked more than Audioslave. But Audioslave has a little better written, more melodic songs and their lyrics aren't nearly as polarizing and annoying as Zach's used to be.

I would much rather listen to RATM than Audioslave.

I would also much rather listen to RATM (although too political) than Audioslave.

Audioslave. Rage is just noise, as all metal-rap fusion is. Plus Audioslave has the best working vocalist in rock today, Chris Cornell. That guy has pipes.

Re: Want your opinion: rage against the machine or audioslave?

Wow, I can't believe this is even a debate. Rage EASY, by a long shot. Audioslave is boring, they are good at what they do, but what they do is make decent radio-rock songs that you don't mind hearing, but never get you excited or make you feel passionate about(they remind me alot of the recent Foo Fighters in this way, a solid vetern act, but obviously lacking something). Rage's debut alone has more interesting songs than Audioslave has released so far.

Cornell is amazing, Soundgarden is classic(Rage vs. Soundgarden is a more interesting debate I think) and his solo album was great. He has a great voice and writes great songs. And the boys from Rage are great musicians, but they are constrained by the new band and Cornell sounds like he is too. The Rage guys are stuck playing less aggressive music for modern rock radio while Cornell is stuck between the straight out agressiveness most of Soundgarden showed and the laid back, nothing-to-lose feeling his solo album had.

Rage wins, Audioslave is a good band, but they never make you think they are a great band. Their songs are as forgettable as most radio-rock music out there today, even if the quality is a little higher.

I'd beg to differ on him being the best vocalist in rock today... At this point he is a shell of what he used to be, and Brent Smith is FAR more capable, not to mention he sounds wayyyyyyyyyy better.

EDIT: How could I forget Maynard????? Even if you hate the guy, he has a KILLER set of pipes.

Also, you will ALL be amazed by J. Loren... vocalist of the new band Hurt, debut due out 3/21.... wait until you guys hear that album, I have had the pleasure...

I totally agree. If I'm working out, Rage is a good choice if you want to get pumped up. When I hear Audioslave, I feel like all the energy in my body is being leeched out, probably becuase of Cornell's "lazy" singing style.

I kind of feel sorry for the ex-Rage members...they went from Total energy to totally boring.

Chris had pipes; he's a shadow of what he use to be. In Audioslave, his voice sounds strained and it most noticeable on the first album, especially when the tries to do the Soundgarden yell - just doesn't work. He sounds better on Out of Exile, but thats because he stays within his new range.

Anyway, back to the original topic - Rage Against the Machine hands down. There's really nothing special about the rhythm section, but I thought Brad and Tim were better in RATM with the hip hop element than they are with Audioslave. In Audioslave, since its a rock band, they have the chance to venture out and expand, but I haven't heard any attempts to explore or just let loose.

Tom Morello, like Cornell's vocals, is a shadow of his former self. In RATM, he had much more room to work with and a lot more freedom. Of course he's trying new styles and sounds with Audioslave, but he's restricted to half-*** solos which are not provoking and become dull after a handful of listens.

Then of course Audioslave's whole song structure has me on edge. Verse. Chorus. Verse. Solo. Verse. Chorus. And it never really strays far from that pattern. Their whole sound seems too formulaic, uninspired, and rather cliche IMO. Audioslave is a good radio band, but outside of their singles, they have few songs to offer which are as good/better than their singles.

The lyrics are pretty much a toss up. I find RATM's lyrics more intellectual, more provoking and more passionate than Audioslave's.

So, my vote goes to Rage Against The Machine.

As was stated above, I can't believe this is even a real debate, RATM is worlds better than Audioslave. As for RATM's politics and lyrics, I am one of the most conservative people politcally out there (witness my avatar) but good music is still good music, I don't have to agree with all of RATM's lyrics to enjoy listening to it and no one else should let that stop them either.
