Audioslave/Rage make me sick. I used to love their music, then they went to Cuba.

How can a band who is Anti-Goverment embrace communist Cuba. What a joke.

They're both good but RATM is better. Better lyrics and singer.

Tool, not sure about them. They take like 12 years to put out an album, they're also such a niche band. I don't know if you could get the average person to name a single Tool song. I think they will be a fringe band, sort of Sex Pistol-esque. Some people will pretty much worship them, others will know the name, but not know much about them other than they were weird. They will be influential though, I agree.
CM, your music analysis is spot on. I actually was going to say Radiohead and Pink Floyd are very similar earlier.

Re: Want your opinion: rage against the machine or audioslave?

Why are you arguing over Shindown's influences? Shinedown is terrible, just another radio band ripping off musicians of the past to make a buck without doing anything original all on their own. I don't know the man's name, but the lead singer for that band is nothing special. That cover of "Simple Man" is one of the worst covers I've ever heard, he sounds like a diva doing the National Anthem, no taste what-so-ever.

The decade of the 90's was a wasteland as far as music went. No one has done something truely inspiring in the mainstream for a long long time. Nirvana gets credit from the people who can forget yesterday so easily as being different but they were basically a poor man's Beatles melded with some Pixies and Neil Young. They are an obvious case of right place at the right time.

If bands like Pearl Jam and Green Day are remembered as being all-time rock greats 20 years from now then I don't want to be associated with the scene. What have they done aside from sell some records? Congrats to them for making a lot of money and having success, but their music is trite and uninspriring.

Tool is one of the few bands to break into the mainstream and remain respectable. I don't think they will ever top their third release, Aenima, but they'd remainded original, to a point. In the grand scheme of things they are not that different from bands of yesterday (Floyd, King Crimson), but amongst the crap that is mainstream radio they are gold. Their new album is one of the few I'll purchase this year.

The only band of today that wows me with their ability to stay original is a band out of Sweden called Opeth. Mainstream only in the metal community, they do things no one really has done before them.

To me there is no debate from the awesome guitar riffs to the deep lyrics Rage is by far the better of the two. Audioslave is a great band but nothing compared to Rage. It just seems like Tom Morello is just too toned down in Audioslave.

Audioslave was my favorite band but after going back and listening to some Rage but especially Soundgarden, they have probably moved past Audioslave. I just hope Audioslave becomes more adventurous on their next album coming up. I find my favorite Audioslave songs to not be their singles. I despise Be Yourself, Like A Stone, etc... I like Shadow on the Sun, The Worm,etc...

Rage easily. Audioslave makes me want to eat my own arm.

Rage Against The Machine blows Audioslave away, but then again, when it comes to mainstream rock from the 90s and 00s (so far)--they blow a LOT of bands away.

Chris Cornell is a great singer and songwriter, but he belongs back with Soundgarden or even making more solo albums. The rest of Audioslave needs to bury the hatchet with Zack de la Rocha.

Somebody mentioned Opeth. They are, indeed, an awesome band. Ghost Reveries was kind of disappointing, though.

They're not anti-government so much as anti-captalism, so going to a socialistic dictatorship makes perfect sense. Their politics are naive and immature but their music is kick@ss!
